  • As tears fall from my eyes i love this film the ending so powerfull & uplifting i read the book years later the same feeling overwashed me again ;-)

  • I lost my cat too, just yesterday. Thought of the beautiful ending to my favorite book--helping me through a tough time.

  • Perfect ending to a damned magnificent film. What I've always loved about this film is that it didn't pander or dumb down. It was challenging for children, introducing them to concepts of fear, death and endurance in a way that nothing else I can think of managed. Absolute classic.

  • @GregJPreece Indeed. A similarly poinient film is "When the wind blows".

  • At first Hazel was all like "Imma old and tired" but then he was all like

    FLY INTO THE SUN

    LIKE A BAWSS

    NOW I'M DEAD!

    LIKE A BAWSS!

  • It's been 7 months since my cat died, and I've come back again to this video to remember.

  • Such a poignant, yet beautiful ending to the film and the book. I've been crying at this too - pausing at 1:01 to see the old, tired Hazel about to meet his maker. The background music is brilliant - but it doesn't seem to be on the OST album, unfortunately. Thank you so much for posting.

  • @mu9cephei

Right - actually this beautiful music is on the OST album - it's track 9, "Climbing the Down".

  • Oh my god why do I cry like this?!

  • Damn you, Richard Adams. This hurts a lot.

  • I'm not going to lie, I teared when Hazel stopped breathing!

  • I can't watch this without breaking down into tears.

I have watched so many beloved rabbit friends die in my arms, and I hope the Black Rabbit came for them as he came for Hazel.

  • Gotta love John Hurt. :)

  • the most honourable death

  • am i the only one who is not scared of this movie

    i love it

  • @thefieryfury You are not the only one glad to say, same here :)

  • @pacman5698 kewl kewl B)

  • I honestly don't think this is a sad ending. Think about it, all throughout the book/film, Hazel and his friends fear death (i.e. the Black Rabbit of Inle) and face it many times and manage to survive. This ending shows how Hazel finally accepts death under the comfort of the Black Rabbit ('you needn't worry about them, they'll be all right) and how death is actually a comforting thing to his tired old body and that the Black Rabbit is not the evil entity it has been portrayed as.

  • @TheMonochromeBird I don't think it's SAD, per se, so much as it is MOVING. It always has me in tears.

  • @rayharryhausen6 Oh, I know that but I do consider this a happy ending even if it is moving. Many people consider Hazel dying to be the saddest part of the film and, in my opinion, I consider it to be the happiest moment because of all the crap he went through to keep his people safe and how he can finally die in peace because he knows they'll be fine, even if he is not there. Sorry if I came across as rather rude. ^^;

  • @TheMonochromeBird I always took the apparition to be both the Black Rabbit and El-ahrairah as if thsoe are really two aspects of the same deity. :)

  • A sad ending.

  • I remember seeing this when I was a kid. It made me cry then, and it still does.

  • My cat just died and I suddenly remembered this ending and came to watch it here.

    *Cries*

  • @JinRenegade Funny you should say that. My cats happen to be named Fiver and Hyzenthlay.

  • The Booooooommmmbbbbbb

  • I just finished the book. Briliant! I wish there was a sequel but there never will be (the author is 90 years old)

  • @TrueEnergizerBunnies Actualy there was a sequel called Tales of Watership down but if you want to buy it you have to get it online or go to a book store and order it.

  • @JohnMarsto2011 My local library had it. Had some really great stories.
