  • where did u get ur dog? im lookin for one just like!

  • Bright girl you got there. Great training, beautiful pup!

  • So. Freakin'. Cute.

  • Reminds me of mine! :D

  • Elkhounds can only be trained when they're a puppy; after that they're just too intelligent and independent.

  • guys i hawe a new norwegianelkhound and.. is this easy to train?

  • it looks like mine norwegian elkhound black version only mine is cuter

  • she is so cute

  • Great training, firm yet loving. Nice to see people who know how it's done. What a sweetheart she is!!

  • good job buddy ........the dog is as cute as it gets....and u train it like a pro...u both look great together .....cheers...i love that dog....

  • ive got one, and its huge! i mean it!

  • I discovered this video a year or two ago and everytime I come back to it it's even more adorable:)

  • if you don't want shedding, I implore you don't get one of these suckers. Your house will look like a thread factory

  • wow, what an inteligent dog! i have a nowegian elkhound and they are very brilliant, not to mention cute!

  • all i can say is be verry verry verry much out in the woods with it, as it is where it belongs.....be firm and strong true its puppy days and be its best friend after that..its a hunting dog, a pure winter/wood creature, its loves being out, even in -20.....im from norway and i hunt elk with it...........best regards

  • @Tinnesen89 So I'm curious, when you say, "elk", do you mean what we in the US call a moose? Doesn't "elg" (as in, "elg hund") mean "moose" in Norwegian? Thanks in advance...

  • @bookguitarguy yes, moose means elg and so does elk if im not completely out in the woods myself. anywho i said elk here couse it is what the discription says......so you are totaly right to point out that fore me thnx

  • @Tinnesen89 Thanks- but the thing is, in America a "moose" and an "elk" are two completely different animals. That's what I'm still confused about... Which ones do Elkhounds hunt in Norway? I'll have to Google elg/Norway, and see if they look more like American "elks" (ie, caribou?), or "moose" (bigger, larger racks I think)!!! Language can be confusing at times.

  • @bookguitarguy oh x) i see, no its moose they hunt. if you search elg on youtube you will probably see a proper norwegian elg..... languages can be confusing indeed, hope i was @ help to u

  • Very nice.

  • I love my Elky.

  • thats pretty impressive that she can do all those tricks in such an early age

  • The cutest puppy ever!!! I have a Norwegian elkhound mix, but i got him when he was already 5 months. His name is Rex and he is extremely stubborn!!

How did you train Bijou so well? share some tips.

    thanks for the video :)

  • i have a norwegian elkhound named Nora and she is impossible to train but she is a very loyal dog when she is not eating everything that i own.

  • you are raising him so perfect

  • These dogs are so courageous! They will take on a full grown elk, moose, or bear! You will not find a breed with more courage than a Norwegian Elkhound.

  • So what if your dog is in the middle of the street and about to get hit by a car? Are you going to throw it a treat? Are you going to pet it for a reward? (never use petting as a reward-only saved for after ending on a positive note in a training session) The only thing that is going to reach your dog in time is your voice! (praise) My Elkhound will do what I want it to do without commands. This is what your dog will do only you first lean the above. One thing leads to the other.

  • @TheSongsparrow You don't even own a dog, and you're here telling people how to train? ROFL, get a life you vulture :D

  • @cliffspc Get lost bigot.

  • @TheSongsparrow said: 'I wish I had a German Shepard. Or a Norweigen Elkhound. Those are the best dogs ever'

Get a life and stop lying on YouTube.

  • There is so much wrong with your training I don't know where to begin. First NEVER use food as a reward. Only use your praise. And if you wait untill your dogs rear end touches the ground to praise it, it's way to late. You praise *the instant* it moves as per responding to your command. Why? Because you arn't praising your dog if it sits. You are praising it for responding instantly to your command. HUGE difference. What if your dog is in the middle of your street? Continued next post.

  • Wow! She's so little and can do all that so well! Good job training her! She's beautiful!

  • You really did a fantastic job training her. Had a Norwegian Elkhound also...best family dog there is.

  • @mcdolphins66

Even better hunter. Indeed very good family dog, better than most "family-bred" dogs

  • aww such a cute dog!

    dont worry about what oneforeverYA

    said

mind you personally yours isnt even messy

id just love to have a dog like her:D

  • Its a great breed! Our Elkie is almost 13 years old now and slowing down. I wouldn't hesitate in getting another Elkhound. Bijou is a sweetie!!!

  • Your elkhound is so cute. I had one that looked and acted the same. She passed on at 17 years old.

  • its amazing, my elkhound Kaya is 3months old & i had no problems trainig her exactly the same way! very intelligent dogs! the only problem is toilet training! ive never seen a dog to pee so much! she goes outside & within 20 mins shes goin aagain inside!

  • cutes dog ive ever seen

  • coolest dogs in the world!

  • really well trained dog. congrats.

  • Nice Pup!! We got our Elkhound 6 years ago and he has been the best dog ever. Very smart breed. Playful, always wanting to be by your side. Great with kids and other dogs too!!!

  • I got my first Norweigen Elkhound when he was 5 weeks old

I come from a German Sheppard Dog Training family, so instictivley my Dad's first words when he seen it was "What the %$# is that?" Haha

But I tell you, Axe is now 5 months old and I wouldn't want any other type of Dog.

Warning to all though, if you can't be a good Master to this Dog, this is not the type for you. This breed needs to have someone in charge, don't let them become your Boss...

  • a fascinating dog. Me as an owner of a crossbreed of a Swiss Entlebuch Sennenhund and a Beagle know exactly what you mean with you gota make sure you are the boss :) My dog looks like an oversized beagle with the brains of a Border Collie, no joke at that, this bloody dog of mine I once saw climb a tree just to get to a couple of crows (don't ask me the details, but it all happened too fast) and he learned to kill flies (snaps them and spits them out after) which i taught him too.

  • they are a fab dog we have 2 called toby and the other prince i love em 2 bits.prince is gettin old now amd its heartbreakn knowing we wont have him round 4 much longer but knowing his had a brill life with us compaed to his 1st owners makes me happy

  • As soon as i can afford it i am going to buy a Norwegian Elkhound called "Tjalfe" :D or something else Scandinavian, can't make up my mind.

  • awe i remember when my elkhound was that little

  • I'm getting my Elkhound, Beaux, tomorrow. I can't wait to take him home! :)

  • really cute

  • My elkhound named Birk

  • Aww that's cute!

  • *Dies of cuteness overload* soooo cuuute!

  • My husband and I are getting a female Norwegian Elkhound in a week. I'm so excited!!!! Loved your video!

  • aww im a big proponent of adopting animals but i always said i will get one puppy for the experience and it will be an elkie (we have 2 rescued ones as of now)

  • ... I suddenly miss my old Elkhound.

  • I love these kinda doggies their so cute!!

  • My Elkound's name is also Bijou. She's a bit north of 14, though. Great puppy you've got!

  • What a little sweetie!!! She reminds me of Shadow when he was a pup. Nothing cuter! :o)

  • now im jelous because my puppy dosent do that no lil bear sits, rolls over, plays dead, and, speaks but i love her soo much

your puppy is very cute too

  • its sorta cute i think..... nah not at all ok ok its cute!

  • tis is a awsome little puppy its so cute i have a video of my elkhound with a weird voice editer plz check it out later

  • how much do elkhounds run? i miss my old one..had him for 10 years..from ages 2-19. he was my best-friend. i know they are expensive we got him luckily for free.

  • A reputable breeder seldom makes a profit; they will have had health screenings, vet costs for care of the bitch during pregnancy, maintenance of the kennel facility, puppy care, etc. and that doesn't start to cover the time involved in training and showing dogs. We paid $600 for our friend ten years ago, and she's been worth it. You might consider breed rescue, but there will be fees applicable in that option, too. Google Norwegian Elkhound Rescue. Good luck!

  • we got 2 elkies neither as pups but rescued them [ we waited until an elkie showed up in florida which isnt verry common] but one was 1 years old and he cost about 50 dollars from humane society and the other one at age 5 cost 500 dollars becuase he broke his hip and he needed surgery which had to be paid for

we had an elkie puppy however that we got in 84-85 and he cost around 500 dollars then so probably a couple thousand now from a pet store but idk about a breeder

  • in my country, australia, we NEVER get elkhounds at shelters, they barely exist, there are maybe 4 breeders in the whole country, we just got one from a breeder 3 days ago, 8 weeksold, but a friend was on the waiting list for an elkhound 4 5 YEARS! we never get purebreeds at our shelters, was going through american shelter websites, and we were absolutely shocked at HOW MANY purebred animals at your shelters! we have nothing like that here. which is good

  • Too many people apparentley don't realize that dogs are for life not for Christmas.

  • theres a breeder in adelaide...but i was lucky when i bought mine cos you had to put your name down a couple of years before..

  • you know that my dog its bettah!!! muahhahaha!!

    ;)

  • Wow, you got'em trained very well and at a young age too! Nice.

  • Dave (aka Papi)... beautiful pup. See u on FIFA.

  • Hello Dave i'm getting my Norwegian elkhound today for my 21st shes 11 and a half weeks old i was wondering if you had any advice on how to teach her things and how long have you been with with little Bijou nice vid very cute lol thanks mate

  • Hi novajhv hope all is going well with new puppy.Only had Bijou for a month now she is 12 weeks old today.Advice I can give you mate is patience, persistance and to spend as much time with the pup.I am sure i will be asking you for advice soon as thios is new to me too lol.

  • I don't know you seem to know what your doing.Shadow is doing fine the cat's scrach her so she really is one of the family lol,she seems to pick up very fast what she needs to do like riding in the car and stuff.

I guess we can watch our little crazy fluff balls grow up at the same time lol

  • @novajhv

they are.... Hard to learn tricks..

But i guess it is possible.

    They bark a LOT!

Ja, vi er jo stolt av nasjonalvoffsen våres da =D
