@FormerMC002 I guess, but if you look at the footage itself (no audio), the animation shows Yugi with his mouth open, which, normally, would imply that he's saying something. I know 4kids does alot of dumb things, but at the least, their basics seem to make sense and i figure that they didn't add the "Yugioh!" assuming the North American audience would find it boring otherwise, but rather to make sense of Yugi's mouth being open in the first place.

Honestly I like both. The "YUGIOH!!!" is kinda hokey, but I really like the middle eastern sound the Millennium Puzzle makes when it activates over just the "PING" in Japanese. But the Japanese song is also very rousing. Tough choice.

Gotta hand it to the dub for this one, it sounds way more on the epic and darker side while the original japanese is not bad imo but it sounds a bit too, as other commenters put it, "cheerful" and "light", but thats just my opinion since I grew up with the english dub

i don't get why people hate this original full transformation. just because he's yelling doesn't mean other people can hear him, just like when he transforms no one sees what he sees (an actual physical transformation. they just sense a stronger yugi). it's just part of the effect, and it's awesome to actually hear 'yugioh' uttered in the series. also, the english theme is by far better than the japanese, sorry, which is far too recycled and typical.

Actually I kind of love the voice-change thing. I never really thought about that it looks like Yugi's yelling it... I just thought of it as non-diegetic, like the music, or like, an inner voice or something. If he's supposed to be yelling, that is pretty stupid. Hmm...to be honest, while 4kids kept censoring things here and there, the music was so serious that it was actually "darker" than the original Japanese version (that doesn't mean I don't like it...I like it a lot. :) ). The Japanese version had a lot of nice sound effects and mood-matching music...so I would say that both are good. :)

yeah Original Yugioh 4kids did great with. they Fucked up GX big time didn't even finish season 3 and it was last episode too Season 4 of never got aired cuz they were to busy airing 5ds as they claim which is a total bunch of BS. 5ds only had a great opening. 4kids never stays true to the japanese version im glad 4kids doesnt own pokemon anymore PUSA sucks with openings but stays true to the japanese version.

@creaturelover It's called Yu-Gi-Oh because in Japanese I'm pretty sure it means King of Games and Yugi's name is a pun. Yu-Gi-Oh seems to sound better than King of Games and it's less work to change all the merch from Japanese to English.
