I saw this movie may be 4 in few days gap. This song had to heard in movie only, no DVD/VCD/Audio tape,so u know also enjoyed the movie. Till today or even in another 100yrs. no Kishore- no Satyajit. Others are just fit for Trashbin.God pl. send some real talented people.
it is supposed to be written during the british period, and is questioning the tyrants how long do you think you can sustain this tyranny? you are not strong enough to postpone what is destined to happen
you assume that our fate is in your hands
you cannot keep us down for ever
the weak also have their strength, however strong u maybe there is a god.
when ur time comes your boat will also sink of its weight.
Thank you so much for translating this poem. My 11 year old daughter wanted me to explain the song. Eventhough I am a Bengali from Karachi and my Dad was from Bordowaan, West Bengal and it's quit difficult for me to translate it.
Kishor Kumar sings this tagore song in the movie Ghare Baire (a Satyajit Ray special). The things to note in this clip are that Kishore sings this without any background music, and of course the expert acting of Soumitra Chatterjee in the clip who lips it.
kishore kumar ottonto boromaper shilpi kintu etao mantey hobey je rabindrasangeeter gayaki kishore kumar golai nei kintu amar money hoi satyajit ekti bishesh karoney kishore kumarkey byabohar koreychilen -charulata ebong eitai duto jaigatei je choritroguli gaan korechey shey kintu trained shilpi noi emni khola golai gaichey and in that scenario kishore fits the best his voice captured that amateurish (dont get me wronghere for using the word "amateur" for kishore !!!) flavour in its totality

I sometimes wonder why he did not get this done by Anup Ghoshal, a better singer than KK. When it came to Rabindra nath songs he like KK, remember Charulata.
I think he's referring to the fact that Anup Ghoshal sang in Hirok Rajar Deshe. I wouldn't call Anup Ghoshal a better singer than KK - but definitely he has a better Bengali accent than KK.

Soumitra Chatterjee acted very well in this movie. Eye expression was wonderful when he tries to get close with Swatilekha. Truly masterclass.

What exactly do you mean by that? KK sang "Aami chinio go chini" in Charulata.
WHich Tagore songs did Anup GHoshal sing. Either in films or otherwise?
