The majority of hard core Superman fans have been wanting Henry as Superman for a very long time now, he will make this film proud!

Why do they feel the need to radically alter the suits that have made these heroes so iconic? Look at The Dark Knight suit. It looks nothing like the comics. I understand not wanting them to look like they are in their undies but at least make it look somewhat like it. The suit Bats has in the Arkham games is a perfect balance.
@50Calabyte I see. I personally love the suit, it gives Sups a more Alien feel. I showed 2 people the suit, and both of them could not figure out what was missing at first (which was a shock to me). Like you said, Batman has Undies in the comics, in movies he don't, I really feel we are just not use to it with Sups. We been living with Batman without Undies since 1989, this is a first for Sups. Also, lets see how it looks on screen, could be badass. 1 thing I LOVE is the S shield!
@EtherMagic The way it looks isn't going to change when the full movie comes out. I'm mainly peeved because the movie is yet another reboot. They aren't even introducing any new villains we haven't seen before. Superman has a massive roster of villains and yet the only two to make it to the big screen is Lex and Zod (and friends). Where's Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid, Bizaaro, Metallo, Parasite, and Solomon Grundy, just to name a few? It's just typical Hollywood rehashing the same shit.
It all boils down to the story and overall direction of the movie. I thought Brandon Routh was a great choice for the part - he just wasn't given the right material. But I do think Henry Cavill is a great choice as well. He seems like a good actor, and he did bulk up for the part. I'm excited for this movie.
Look at all the qualities that are required to be a proper superman?....and i hate to say it but henry Cavill has ticked alot of boxes. I personally would like to see a really well built guy do the job,but chances are they wont have great acting ability. Some one who has the stature of say?..John Cena?..but who can act better. because the comics depicted a handsome guy (like myself) with a really well build physique....so they havnt made a bad choice really.
Henry Cavill is a GREAT choice for superman...he gives me the awe like Mr. Reeve used to when i was little, watching superman movie for the first time. did you guys know that Matt Bomer was supposed to be in Superman Return instead of Brandon Roth? why cant hollywood leave things alone and stop with the remakes and reboots its like they are saying the movies they did with the actors they chose wasnt good enough and thet keep messing with the story lines so then they have to go a completely different route i dont mind sequals but remaking the same moives come on... this is my frustration....
Cavill probably looks most the comics Superman than any actor yet, and I like that the movie is going in a more gritty realistic direction, with Superman as an actual character rather than a 2D icon.
Loved Routh as Superman, I can understand the split and have nothing at all against Cavill but Routh will always be the one that got away, so to speak. He did an excelent job in Returns.
Brandon Rough was good but was abit of a Chris Reeve lookalike and was probably picked because of that, I am glad that its a new guy and British too. and as you say he has acting experience and with chris nolan involved you can expected it to be good,
As for BRANDON ROUTH I saw nothing in him that says hes SUPERMAN except that he kind of looks like Reeves (not really)...
And the whole British/American argument makes no sense to me at all. Everyone thought HUGH LAURIE who plays HOUSE was a great American actor until they discovers hes British who hides his accent for the show (its called acting people).

Please, the guy keeps talking about "quality" in action hero films. Action packed thrillers aren't exactly considered Academy Award material or top quality cinema to start with. lol So why use this British twit to play an American action hero? Use a new face but a new American face.

Sorry, but Brandon Routh was a very weak Superman compared to Christopher Reeves & was seen more as a knock off of an original. That didn't work. Henry Cavill seems to be better looking in the face but maybe not as manly as Routh. Whatever, even if they didn't use Brandon Routh, they should've used another American actor. Superman should be American, not British! I don't know if Cavill will be accepted as Superman at the American box office. They're taking a huge risk.
@iluvfirenze89 I guess it depends if americans are that xenophobic. Superman is from another planet. Sure he grew up in the US, but what difference does it make where the actor comes from. He could quite easy speak with an american accent. Several british actors have done US shows and the watcher didn't pick up that they weren't american.
Tom Welling is my only Superman and Michael Rosenbaum was the greatest Lex ever. I've watched Smallville from season 1 to 10. Why movie directors wont give their fans what they want I will never know. I didnt' like Brandon Roth, thought his acting basically sucked. IDK if I'll be seing this film, but I'll definately be paying the $200 for the complete 10 seasons of DVDs with Tom and Michael.
@barbiewmn Cavill will do good, as long as the story doesn't suck. I've seen several movies of his and the series The Tudors (which he was excellent in). I liked Tom Welling, but I don't think he wants to do the movies, and I don't know if he could carry the weight of the movie.

Cavill just does not have the Superman look! Routh was the perfect Superman. Superman is supposed to be 6'3. Cavill is 6'1 and Routh is 6'3 with a far better look for the role. This movie is going to bellyflop BIGTIME with Cavill, Fact!

I am not going to see this movie because since christopher reeve every superman-actor failed,sry. they are too skinny for superman. another reason is this everlasting story how he became superman...we all know how and i am tired to see the old man lex luthor throwing his money around,even though this boring general zod. the one and only zod is terence stamp but nonetheless there are far more villains which are more interesting.
Yes we know - we also know there will be no other Batman except Michael Keaton, and of course, Jack Nicholson's Joker is just UNTOUCHABLE, nothing can even come close. Especially after the George Clooney one and Arnie playing Freeze.
Routh was very good, it's just a shame about the rest of the film-it was so flat!. For me, Smallville and Welling will always be part of a different Superman universe. Cavill is an inspired choice, although I am not convinced with the changes that they have made to his appearance.

They couldn't have picked a better actor for this role. Hopefully this will make him more of a household name, so that we will see him a lot more on the big screen. Seen all his movies, he was strongly being considered for James Bond, which he would have been outstanding in. I would doubt that this particular actor will disappoint anyone.
To me I see superman as Christopher Reeve. But with this film Tom Welling would of been my choice. I was a huge fan of Smallville. It would of been awesome to carry that on to the big screen. After all they were all concreted as those characters for 10 years

I think Cavill will do a decent job, but I will always consider Routh as the only superman. I never considered that he was just playing a role... He WAS superman to me, he played it so convincingly. He is an amazing actor, and I think he looks more like superman than any other actor I've seen. I'll miss him!!!

@boyeks Tom Welling is too fat to play Superman in the suit. They tried it for the finale of Smallville and his body looked like a potato in the suit, so they had to CGI the suit for the finale. Rumors were that he has been gaining weight the past couple of years, which was why they stopped showing him shirtless on the show.

You know the smallville superman was better wearing the Black jacket/white S and worn out black cape. At least no one saw him as the Blur except for the rest of the other heroes. Plus Michael Rosenbaum was a good Lex Luthor.
Truth be told. Superman returns may not have been action packed but in true comic fashion in terms of DC lore it actually succeeded greatly.. But because the film wasn't made for teenagers with hour long fights with transformers it did poorly to some people. Singer did an excellent job introducing him back in to a modern age.. The movie was setup to have a sequel like the original superman. its a shame they didn't let Singer continue his story.. Bring routh back..

People sill unfortunately compare Cavill to them and bash his performance despite how good it'll turn out, but Cavill is actually a very talented actor and I'm sure he'll do fine. heyy its prob me for being a big smallville fan but he kind in a way tom welling put to and to together finale episode of smallville was called man of steel and really in smallville zod is still alive in this movie hes the bad guy call me crazy but alot of similarities.

What's interesting is that Cavill was actually up for the Superman role way back when they were proceeding with JJ Abrams aborted film. I think he was only about 20 then but I thought he looked ideal with that square jaw of his. His situation reminds me of Timothy Dalton being up for James Bond to replace Connery, and then eventually getting the role after the actual replacement.

@Bk94541 I don't want to put blind faith in Nolan and be a fanboy, but I do have faith in this project with Nolan attached. Nolan has a successful track record both artistically and financially. He definitely took the Batman franchise in a completely different (and much needed) direction than Burton/Shumacher. And the way Hollywood plays it safe and dumbs down for the audience, Nolan's new direction was a big risk at the time. I liked Superman Returns, but clearly they need a new direction.
Okay I'm sorry but they are making another Superman movie with characters we are unfamiliar with, 1 year after Smallville the tv show ends....What the hell were they thinking? Why not just use the Smallville cast. It would of been easy for us to recognise. I'm not going to see this movie just purely because I love Smallville to much. It all boils down to the story and overall direction of the movie. I thought Brandon Routh was a great choice for the part - he just wasn't given the right material. But I do think Henry Cavill is a great choice as well. He seems like a good actor, and he did bulk up for the part. I'm excited for this movie.

Look at all the qualities that are required to be a proper superman?....and i hate to say it but henry Cavill has ticked alot of boxes. I personally would like to see a really well built guy do the job,but chances are they wont have great acting ability. Some one who has the stature of say?..John Cena?..but who can act better. because the comics depicted a handsome guy (like myself) with a really well build physique....so they havnt made a bad choice really.

Cavill probably looks most the comics Superman than any actor yet, and I like that the movie is going in a more gritty realistic direction, with Superman as an actual character rather than a 2D icon.
Loved Routh as Superman, I can understand the split and have nothing at all against Cavill but Routh will always be the one that got away, so to speak. He did an excelent job in Returns.
Dean Cain will always be my favourite though :)

Sorry, but Brandon Routh was a very weak Superman compared to Christopher Reeves & was seen more as a knock off of an original. That didn't work. Henry Cavill seems to be better looking in the face but maybe not as manly as Routh. Whatever, even if they didn't use Brandon Routh, they should've used another American actor. Superman should be American, not British! I don't know if Cavill will be accepted as Superman at the American box office. They're taking a huge risk.

Tom Welling is my only Superman and Michael Rosenbaum was the greatest Lex ever. I've watched Smallville from season 1 to 10. Why movie directors wont give their fans what they want I will never know. I didnt' like Brandon Roth, thought his acting basically sucked. Routh was very good, it's just a shame about the rest of the film-it was so flat!. For me, Smallville and Welling will always be part of a different Superman universe. Cavill is an inspired choice, although I am not convinced with the changes that they have made to his appearance.

I think Cavill will do a decent job, but I will always consider Routh as the only superman. I never considered that he was just playing a role... He WAS superman to me, he played it so convincingly. He is an amazing actor, and I think he looks more like superman than any other actor I've seen. I'll miss him!!!

Truth be told. Superman returns may not have been action packed but in true comic fashion in terms of DC lore it actually succeeded greatly.. But because the film wasn't made for teenagers with hour long fights with transformers it did poorly to some people. Singer did an excellent job introducing him back in to a modern age.. The movie was setup to have a sequel like the original superman. its a shame they didn't let Singer continue his story.. Bring routh back..

Well, whatever, I've given up on this ever since they cast Cavill. I'm sure he'll be great. Just one thing: whenever they make a JL/JLU movie, or even Batman/Superman, can they try Routh again? I really think he has a lot of potential, especially after seeing him do some action scenes in other movies... I don't think you can associate JL with Reeve much, anyway.
Still, kudos to Cavill.

What's interesting is that Cavill was actually up for the Superman role way back when they were proceeding with JJ Abrams aborted film. I think he was only about 20 then but I thought he looked ideal with that square jaw of his. His situation reminds me of Timothy Dalton being up for James Bond to replace Connery, and then eventually getting the role after the actual replacement.

Cavill is a nice looking guy, but he doesn't look like Superman to me. And he's too short. Tom Welling should be Superman.

@FlyClark6 This is a stupid comment Henry Cavill is 6' 1" I would hardly consider him short. Tom Welling is largely a TV actor and he does a respectable job but he does not have the talent or range to carry a movie.

@trinapinks Tom Welling Is this generations Superman. He certainly has the talent, but has lacked the opportunity. I have no doubt in my mind that Tom Welling could re-shape the Superman film landscape, given the chance.

@Bk94541 I don't want to put blind faith in Nolan and be a fanboy, but I do have faith in this project with Nolan attached. Nolan has a successful track record both artistically and financially. He definitely took the Batman franchise in a completely different (and much needed) direction than Burton/Shumacher. And the way Hollywood plays it safe and dumbs down for the audience, Nolan's new direction was a big risk at the time. I liked Superman Returns, but clearly they need a new direction.

Okay I'm sorry but they are making another Superman movie with characters we are unfamiliar with, 1 year after Smallville the tv show ends....What the hell were they thinking? Why not just use the Smallville cast. It would of been easy for us to recognise. I'm not going to see this movie just purely because I love Smallville to much. I'm use to Tom, Erica Annette, Jonathan etc as the characters. They've left an imprint there as the Superman cast. Blah. =[ Disappointment.

@MemberOfTheOrder if smallville cast will be on this superman new movie then we should call it smallville instead of superman. we've seen smallville for 10years and if they make it into a movie then people will not waste their money to watch it in the big screen, because the've seen it and will think what else will be new on this movie called superman with the cast of smallville people. I don't think producers will waste their money just to go into the drain.

@lanalang2001 Yeah to an extent I agree with you, but even if they waited like 2-3 years and then made a smallville/superman film then that would've been amazing to see for me anyway but then again thats just my own opinion. I mean as you said, We've seen 10 seasons of a Superman based tv show and now they are bringing out a movie a year later with a different cast.. I just don't like that idea is all. =]

@Jpmixea Excuse me? No need to be rude. I understand that people may of not seen the t.v show. But even if they have not seen it. What is wrong with the Smallville cast? In this movie we are seeing all sorts of different actors join that a lot of people don't know. Why not use a Smallville cast? The people who love smallvile will recognise them and the people who haven't seen the show, well it will be the same thing as we are seeing here. It will be new to them regardless. You are very rude.

He is scared to put on the suit so how is there going to be superman without a suit? Unless it is CGIed Like The Finale lol. @Jpmixea Okay I honestly haven't heard that (the interview). So I can understand where you are coming from. So I guess that does change things. A Superman movie with a smallville cast, without Tom would be a bit silly. But I have to admit, It would of been great to see. Though it was CG, I still think that Tom would of made a great Superman. I also really wanted to see Micheal play Lex and Erica play Lois. Also to see what they do with Chloe. It would of been good,but I respect hat your saying.

@MemberOfTheOrder Don't get me wrong Tom would look epic in the suit if he were t wear it but I think since all the superman movies had an unknown actor to play him it would be better this way. We still have hopes for a smallville spin off or a tv movie special in the future
