And it's great that this game doesn't have an activation server to rely on, so I can install it on my current pc from my cds that I bought years ago and be able to play it. Would Duke Nukem 3D be playable today if it had to rely on activation servers? Most likely not, because the servers probably wouldn't still exist today to activate it on my current PC.

Correct, 4.0 is the latest official release at the moment. However, there's a 4.1.1 update pack on the official website although IIRC it's only recommended if you're using the Polymer render that comes with the latest EDuke32 version.

In many ways the HRP makes the game look worse. The backrounds around are great and so are most of the weapon models, but some weapon models are god awful, they don't match the quality of the others. Same problem with character models. Many of the originals look better than the modified models. Some objects have this same problem too. That's why I removed some of the new content.

Definately not. Duke Nukem 3d brought so much more to the FPS genre then Doom did. It brought more helarity to games, a much better engine then Doom had, and much better graphics. It didn't take place on Mars's moons or on hell either. Plus you don't play as some space marine you don't know anything about you play as Duke Nukem. One of the most kickass game characters of all time

Duke Nukem did come out around the era of Quake. a full 2-3 years after Doom.

if it weren't for Doom, there might not have been a Duke 3D as we know it today, anyway.

Keep in mind, when the shareware version of doom came out, it spread like wildfire and truly defined the genre where Wolf3d did not.

Duke 3d expanded on that further, true, but let's not go giving Duke Nukem all the credit where Doom has some too.

Downloadable game on Torrents and P2P networks. The High Res pack was made by people on the internet and is not avialable commercially. I own the original on CD-ROM. Awesome game. USe to play it when i was  a kid. NOw getting back to playing Doom and Quake series.
