What Obama doesn't get is that there isn't necessarily a balance between the jobs that technology creates and the jobs that it replaces, we're getting to a point where automation is removing the jobs in the service sector while not creating jobs anywhere else.

I don't see how he's saying that ATM machines and airport kiosks cause unemployment. He said that they have caused "changes in the economy" that should shift focus away from training personnel in areas that may have diminishing availability in the job market and towards areas that have growing availability there.

Not even in the short term. Why not? Because before kiosks and ATMs were brought to market, they had to be designed, developed, engineered, tested, manufactured, delivered, installed and then people needed to be trained on how to service and repair. New technology is a job BOON, not a job buster.

First, ATM’s have to be built which equates to Manufacturing Jobs. Once installed they have to be networked which create IT jobs. Then they have to be maintained to create Tech Jobs. And you still need a teller to fill it up. Yea they did diminish teller jobs but in turn they created other jobs. But the number one fact this clown you call a president forgets that ATM’s were around decades before he stole the white house.

I don't see that big of a problem. He stated structural unemployment, ATM was a bad example, but that is structural unemployment. He has a slight grasp of the basics, but would fail any economic course, and has failed the country.

How about we go back to people putting labels on groceries the old-fashioned way and have the checkout person type in the amounts by hand. And imagine when price changes come thru. It would look like a Chinese fire drill getting all those old labels off and the new ones on.
