Apart from Ian banging his head, I can't say I found this at all amusing but rather embarrassing. Ian is a genuinely witty funny guy but this was not one of his better days. He clearly had a destructive drink problem that contributed to his being fired from Purple. As for the whole debate about "heavy metal" I think Gillan and Glover were clearly familiar with the Comic Strip "Bad News" films where the band had a comical argument about whether or not they were heavy metal!

@gillan64 I agree and have never thought of DP as a heavy metal band. They're much more creative & complex than the run-of-the-mill heavy metal group. They're hard rock, often with a heavy blues signature certainly.
