Mercenary is defined as one who serves merely for wages, especially, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, being hired by a foreign government. Guys who get paid $300-$600 per day to do this = mercenaries. Also, since it has been made very difficult to track how much money is being spent on contractors, it is uncertain that they are necessarily cheaper.
