seeing him screaming and pumping him up like that u see fed nowadays is clearly calmer..he should scream like that again..and win next year the GS ;-)
NOW THIS IS WHY FEDERER BECAME KNOWN AS THE GREATEST! Safin did amazing but he came across Roger Federer and dat ain't good. Wish Roger cud play like this on Sunday against Rafa, then d spaniard would have no chance
but the reason is clear. People hadn't figured out that the heavy topspin to his backhand would break him down. We all know now that power hitters just (excuse the pun) fed Roger's own shots even more because he has such amazing timing and technique.
He can't hit backhands like that any more because the heavy topspin leaves such a miniscule window of opportunity that its almost impossible.his confidence is shot to shit.
@thegreatNEb actually only one person has enough topspin to break down his backhand. The rest think they hit through federer but simply he wasn't at his best nowadays.
Its been so long since I've seen Roger so focused in a match, he always looks so unconcerned, doesn't care about the outcome of the match. Here you can see how much he wants to win. This is how I like him! :D
Federer has probably never played any match unconcerned of its outcome. His will to win is greater than that of any other player in the field, which is one major reason why hes been the greatest player of all time.
If i had to chose a Federer to beat any player any day it´s Fed in this tournament, TMC 2004! Berdych would look foolish and he would beat Nadal too, in a close match but this Fed could beat Nadal most of the times on hard!
Federer always had a fantastic game to bring at the year end championships until 2008/09 seasons where is slipped a bit. I would personally choose TMC 2007 as I think he was pounding winners off of both wings in that tournaments making everyone look pathetic, including Nadal who got trounced in the semis
players now don't really count on winners, they count on less unforced errors. That is why more spin with less pace gives you less unforced errors with more rallies
I am really amazed how powerful both players' strokes are, especially the russian's... Safin's backhands are all at least 100-110 kph and so consistently placed near the far-side line... The game in 2004 was without so much topspin compared to tennis now... And of course, much more fascinating to watch the bullets sent by the two players. Federer has so rich variety of shots and that's why he was able to beat so classy players like Safin ,Hewitt and Roddick - his main contenders b4 Nadal came.
you really do forget just how good federer was back then in 2004 and for a few years after. he just doesnt have the same creativity on the court that he once did and lacks the execution now when he tries. this clip takes my breath away everytime!
I remember this match pretty well. It just would not end. Safin was absolutely spanking the ball from the back of the court, while Fed's defense was as sweet as ever. Great way to end the season for both of them, having had good runs. We know that federer had (as usual) 80 wins that year, but Safin came back from a career threatening injury that year and really came back strong in the last 2 months, 3 titles (2 masters)....
not to be a pain in the ass, but nadal was the teenager (17 at the time) who had beaten Federer at miami that year in 2 sets. Still, I totally agree with you lol. "nadal who?" plus, Marat is my second favorite player (after Roger of course), their semi at AO 2005 was epic, they are both geniuses in their own way. Those really were the days...
Fed lost to nadal in that meanless match whil he had won AO, Dubai and Indian wells ... I think he was a bit tired and he had never seen someone play with that much topspin ... Nadal like always only played his backhand ...this match was kind of irrelevent ..; The important one was FO 2005 SF
@radioxxflyer whats your point ? nadal wasnt as good on hard surfaces as he is now..i mean he won us open and australian open.in 2006 he was good only on clay

but the reason is clear. People hadn't figured out that the heavy topspin to his backhand would break him down. We all know now that power hitters just (excuse the pun) fed Roger's own shots even more because he has such amazing timing and technique.

I think Federer reached 99% of that level in the 2010 Aussie Open Final and made Murray almost look like hopeless case.

2008 Wimbledon Men's Final had two epic tiebreaks. But seriously, this was pretty freaking epic too!! I think the score was like 20-18, no?
