I visited Fontainebleau chateau and I thought it was pretty small-scale when compared to Versailles which is bigger: bigger gardens (the Fontainebleau garden is small), a grander entrance with the Statue of Louis the 14th on a horse, the Trianon and Petit Trianon and Village of Marie Antoinette. Fontainebleau is NOT the largest chateau in France. I'm pretty sure it's Versailles.
