My take:

Lisa is a drug addict. She's a good person, but is addicted to cocaine/crack/whatever is on that counter.

The only reasons she stayed in Silent Hill (when it was a normal town and she was alive) was because Kaufman gave her, and other employees, drugs for a price AND because she cared for Alessa.

Here, I'm assuming she didn't have enough money for the drugs, so she offered her body in exchange. Kaufman accepted.

When Lisa heard about the baby (Cheryl) being born, she took Cheryl and left her to be found by someone else (Harry). However, she chose to come back to Silent Hill for the sake of her addiction, assuming no one knew what she did.

She came back. And they killed her, knowing very well what she did.

Lisa is a good person. She just got caught in too many bad things. Had she not abused drugs, had to take care of Alessa,....or been in Silent Hill. She might have lived a normal life.

The problem with that is that they reveal in Origins that it was Alessa herself, not Lisa, who left the baby on the roadside. Lisa's fate is left ambiguous. The most we know is that she was killed, probably because she was a liability or - like suggested in the first game's intro cinema - because she was arguing with Kaufman about exposing the Cult.

Most likely she got tired of sheltering Alessa in a basement and not telling anyone. She felt what they were doing was wrong. When she went to go tell someone Kaufman probably killed her. One thing that I don't like about this game is that they change their appearances drastically from the first Silent Hill....especially Kaufman. Also his voice is really screwed up in this one.

I didn't mind so much the changes. For one, at least the game sticks far closer to the feel of the original Silent Hill game than the rather banal new one, Homecoming. Also, people, you have to understand that the game takes place approximately 7 years before the very first Silent Hill. Of course no one is going to look or sound the same. I thought Kaufman worked just fine, as did the others. Remember: a lot can change in a person in seven years.

If we follow Origin's good ending, then yes.

However, I think the bad ending is true. Travis NEVER REALLY met Lisa or Kaufman. Travis was confused due to his parents, and went insane as an adult. He became a psycho killer and was locked up in the same hospital room as Alessa. Alessa messed with his mind, due to her hatred for his kind. Travis most likely died later on in that hospital.

As much as that ending sucks, it makes a bit of sense.

The drug was called White Claudia. The Order killed a couple of cops who were investigating the trafficking (as indicated in SH1 at the police station), and it was used to keep Lisa in check as she was placed in charge of Alessa's care after she was burned. The drug is also used as part of the resurrection ceremony (the rebirth ending) in SH2 along with 3 other items (the liquid called white chrism).
