  • lousy newfangled hand dryers, what'll they think of next

  • I did stand up and wrote for others for six years Worked with Dane Cook, Billy Martin, Bill Burr and this guy is the WORST! I could be more funny with no material just talking. I have a dozen non-professional friends who are ten times funnier. He is just an idiot. Man! Painful.

  • I'm pretty biased against Leno, but that was pretty funny.

  • I wish 9 glasses of wine were still $1.07

  • God. He used to be funny!

  • This is how you know that comedy has evolved to those that are smart enough to get it.

  • God he sounds like hes on Helium.

  • the beach is on the wrong side...i love that one, so simple.

  • His stand up is very poor

  • Jay Leno in his prime: "American Hot Wax". Jay & Fran Drescher have a love-hate relationship while working for '50s dee-jay, Alan Freed.

Late Night (1984-87): Jay was THE up-and-coming comedian, and Dave Letterman knew just how to set up his jokes. They made a great team.

A Highlight: Leno was a guest co-host on "Merv Griffin's show. Merv hated Leno's edgy humor - and kept trying to show him up. Leno proceeded to firie off ad-libs at Grifiin's expense - as Merv's audience cheered him on.

  • I think if Conan- who is brilliant- had this kind of experience, he'd still be hosting Tonight. The way Leno cranks it in the 2nd half of this set, you can see where he learned to bob and weave through stretches of iffy material before getting to the takedown. It's not the same as when you have a band behind you and a sidekick and graphics and can throw to commercial.

  • @goesdownsinging

Good point... this was a period when you had to learn in the darkest, roughest part of becoming a comic, dealing with a situation that only you can make or break when the spotlight is solely on you.

This was evident to me at least, when the pressure turned up w the Tonight Show, and the 'fiasco', Conan did seem to feel awkward, a bit lost at times. That only a ground up, grass root background could help in helping one 'expertly' manage the stage, in big or small ways.

  • that guy at 3:39 on the right looks like steve carell

  • Tops!!

  • Actually Jay, senseless in that there was no immediate reasoning other than for its own sake. In COMPARISON to say a killing where by there were at least means, say for example a father killing a man who touched his son, that sort of thing.

I clicked on this just to see if he was ever funny. And the answer: Not really.

Jay is a scumbag. I'm from the UK so I only see all the shows online anyway but Conan is a much more organic, funny comedian. I'm annoyed this baby fucked him out of his future.

  • so his chin is real...

  • Jay Leno is being blamed for wanting to stay on his show. He never should have left the show in the first place.

  • JEW AFRO.

    Solid set,

haha I wonder what Jay thinks about hand washers now XD

  • Jay Sucks

  • Boring.

  • haha! Jay is great!

  • Jay is actually very funny live. Ive seen him live at the Comedy and Magic club in Hermosa Beach quite a few times. He still performs there a few times a month and he doesn't hold back either. Completely different than Tonight Show.

  • was j ever funny??????????????

  • @mykmmc lmfao!!!!

  • He sold out because he has a show that people watch at the end of the day before they go to bed. They don't want controversy. They don't want to think. They just want to veg out. His kind of humour - bland, insipid, milquetoast - is perfect for that. That's why he's more popular than people like Letterman and Conan......they make you think.

    He's 26 here, btw.

  • @ApocalypsePlough I love toast!

  • @ApocalypsePlough Can u just enjoy anything? U got too much to say. WHat is wrong with no controversy....and oh sometimes u don't need to think. Like a stallone movie. He can't even talk but sometimes u need that for a change, damn it!

  • Terrible. This kind of crap appeals to the opposite person that I am.

  • @Optimusprimerib Oh, it must appeal to geniuses then.

  • Interesting to think that a lot of those old men in the audience are now dead, bones in a coffin. What do yall think of that, bitches?

  • This is actually true!! my doctor always says to me "that do YOU think?" ???

  • he became very successful...and me?.....phail :(

  • yeah this is funny jay. Ive always found him funny but as he got older he became less funny but it was fine he had respect but after what he did to conan i couldnt care less for him. He will always be remembered as a jerk even if his show is number 1

  • o. m. g. wat is he wearing......lol thanks for posting!

  • Jay Sucks.

  • @typeanoise

Stick to shitty obnoxious comedy like Conan, someone who isn't even a fucking comedian.

  • Most comedians will not admit it, but Jay Leno actually crafted a lot of the modern stand-up techniques that are still popular today. Jay Leno was actually quite revolutionary for his time. Even though his routine seems stale now, since it has been copied to death, this was actually innovative at the time. Jay Leno has been a big contributor to stand-up comedy.

  • Actually, a lot of comedians DO say that Jay was great in the 70s and 80s. That's whats so tragic about the Leno we see today. When he was first starting out, he was respected in the comedy world as one of the best and brightest in the business. Today he's looked at as a sell out, who endlessly tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  • @bwc3821 But why? What did he do?

  • @IzZyTX1991 He sold out and endlessly tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  • where did this video come from? im reading a book about bill hicks right now called american scream, and it talks frequently about him and leno doing shows together in the 80's this is good to see!

  • used to watch his show, wont when he returns, that was some scam he pulled to get his old job back, like to see him cancelled too................bumm

  • quit hating. survival of the fittest. who wouldn't want to keep that job?

  • his hair. i never knew he used to have so much. and it used to be black??? o_O

  • I don't get the joke at 5 minutes. Would you honestly be able to tell that the beach is to the east of the Ocean as opposed to the west when in California after coming from the Eastern coast? Please help explain it to me. I mean, I get that it would be on your left as opposed to your right if facing North, but is that all there is to it?

  • Yes, that is all there is to it.

  • @Stratoart I live in california. I went to Florida last year and while the logic makes sence, there is something just different about where the ocean is. Until you get to experience it, it's a little harder to explain here than in person.

  • @Stratoart I actually just figured it out. When you face north ( for example) along the shore, regaurdless of what shore, you know where the mainland is. When you are accustomed to knowing that, it becomes a little difficult to accept that water is where land should be if you live on the west coast and land is where water should be when you live on the east coast.

  • He is really funny!

  • what the fuck is funny about him?

  • he was funny! but this video won't change my mind about COCO!

  • At least he grew into his chin! Look how big his head is compared to his body! LOL!

  • i like this much better than jay now, his voice much betta too!

  • CoCo!!

  • I know I'll get flamed for this, but I found this actually funny somewhat. I guess this is before the magical Tonight Show "off switch".

  • Not at all! I remember being a kid who really dug Jay's standup who was phenomenally disappointed when I saw him on the Tonight Show and he wasn't funny anymore.

  • HOLY SHIT! HIS CHIN IS FCKN HUUUGE !!

  • im guessing this was before jay sold out to appease his middle american audience.....

  • Nope, not funny.

  • I'm with Coco

  • He did the same stupid jokes at every show.

  • Whaddya know...these are the same people who watch Leno now!

  • He was right, the audience was VERY nice. He was OK, but visibly nervous.

  • Proof, that Leno has always sucked.

  • dammit i fell asleep at 5 minutes in

    was the rest funny?

  • i gave up at 2

  • i'm so glad came across this!! thanks for the upload!

  • wow. he was actually funny at one point! lol nice.

  • @bashjpfreak7 YOu really think this is funny??? You probably liked Bob Sagat.

  • OMG!!!

  • he looks mare like gay leno here

  • jay leno
