@juanelox1212 it was chocolate syrup, corn syrup, red food dye, corn starch for thickening, and some cottage cheese for "guts". We just played with varying amounts of each ingredient until we got it how we wanted it, so I don't know an exact measure of each.
@Valsam75 I did some pretty hardcore post-production stabilization. The problem is, digital stabilizers require a few high contrast, stationary points to lock onto. And there are none in this clip. The blood is high contrast, but since it is dripping down the wall, it is by no means stationary.
Test for a gunshot effect used in a film. Made with compressed air and a fake blood mixture. Tests don't have to look great as long as they do exactly what you need them to do. This one did. It proved to us that the fake blood mixture would splatter effectively. My "Gunshot test 2" video is the second test, with the purpose of proving that the blood mixture could also be composited realistically.
Hey, could i have the blood splatter clip please? I will need it for a video i'm gonna make. Tell me if i can by pm please, i would be really happy :)
The white plastic was very tight. The problem was the shakiness from being handheld. The "stabilize" feature in Motion 3 could not stabilize the footage very well because any high contrast point in the footage was not stationary (i.e.- the blood droplets were dripping down the wall, not stationary). Stabilization requires a couple of fixed points to work, and since there were none, it didn't. Thus, jitters.
It's just simple compositing. He keyed out the white from the blood splatter, and keyed out a scene of someone "shooting" his hand, and put both on top of a picture of a wall.
Yep, something like that. It was Motion 3, part of the Final Cut Studio package. Luma key and difference matte. The compositing turned out better in the "Gunshot Test 2" video.
I have a 16 Fl. Oz (1 pint) of this stuff, its called Bottle Of Blood™ and it was 4 bucks, its used for special effects, looks and flows like real blood, icredible blood red color, frightfully realistic and on top of all that still manages to be NON-TOXIC. Its made by easter unlimited inc. and it says not to use near eyes or in mouth and children under 10 shouldn't get it.
I had used a difference matte to key out the hand, instead of chroma keying. Since the skin color is nearly the same as the wall, that is the best key I was going to pull for such a quick test. That's why the crummy cutout look on the hand.
It is corn syrup, chocolate syrup, corn starch, food coloring, and cottage cheese. It actually smelled good on the movie set it was eventually used on.
Thats how my toilet looks like after my uncle uses it.

You should use a tripod

wow thats amazing!!!
LegendaryxEyes 1 year ago
you could do some post-production motion stabilization to this footage as an alternative solution to the lack of tripod.

I don't think I have the original clip anymore, but this clip is really not good for compositing anyway, since it is so shaky.

Don't you have the one from test 2? Well thanks anyways

need a tripod then it will look great

guys pause at 0:18 u can see white edges
daver00777 2 years ago
its jittering cuz you put the blood splatter originally was on that plastic thing
and when you sprayed the blood on it
it moved around
so ya
you put it on the wall
and it still moves
cuz thats how you recorded it
next time usea green or blue

He used an editing program like Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Express, Adobe Premiere, etc.

It had a veteran EMT's solid approval in the final short film. That's real enough for me.
StillFramePictures 3 years ago
You need a steady surface and a stabilized cam on a tripod to make it look realistic while alpha keying.

That stuff does look pretty real. And it's a lot easier than making your own like we did. Winds up costing about the same.

29GERRARD29 4 years ago
We attached a piece of tubing to a paintball CO2 tank that had a manual air valve. A quick turn of the valve was all it needed to spray the blood.

nice, how'd u splatter it?
