free jazz radio has died in key west...but comcast radio has brought it back to life ...keiko's love for this art holds no bouderies...the people in key west love you please come down here ....
Not only is Keiko's music poetic, but she is poetry in motion while playing it. Saw her play this tonight at Jazz Alley in Seattle- Songs from the new Album "The Road..." are fabulous. She's very funny on stage, too- the 3 dots are "very Important". Great band, too!
@HyperBob97 Me Too, Simply cant do with out it. Though I have just begun to pick up on Bassa Nova which is a form of Brazilian Jazz. And has been around for quiet some time. BTW I'm 51. Us Mature Men know where its at with both the women and the music.
Keiko is AWESOME! I would love to see her in person one day. I got hooked on smooth jazz because of her and the song "Bridge Over The Stars". She is my first smooth jazz love and what a intro! "Safari" is probably one of my favorites and one of her best!!!
The music of Keiko Matsui is a blessing from Heaven.
Her music reaches the depths of our souls and pulls out every single beautiful and golden feeling of peace and love. Her music reminds us to appreciate the special connection those of us from ecclectic cultures share through her music, which has the power to unify and encourage us to embrace our human family with love and mutual joy.
In the early 90s Matsui's albums were rising rapidly up the charts and was she was Billboard's number three Top Contemporary Female Jazz Artist for 1997.
Matsui received the Oasis award for Best Female Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year in 1999 and again in 2000.
Lets also give credit to Paul Taylor who appeared on Sapphire, Dream Walk, and Full Moon and the Shrine.
Man I am behind the times. I have recently gotten a taste of Keiko. What a superb talent. Unbelievable is a true understatement. Thanks so much for this.
i've loved her music for a long time theres just something about her u can feel tha love she has for what she does most saddly tha same can';t be said about most artists u feel her music in ur soul at least thats what i believe
I've seen them both live, and while I think Hiromi is definitely better in terms of technique, she lacks something that Keiko has... I don't know how to describe it in any other way than that I feel that while Hiromi is a better piano player, Keiko is a better musician.. I hope this makes sense to you.
I absolutely agree with that statement. I admire Hiromi because of her skills and her rhythm knowledge but Keiko's music is... beautiful and beautiful music is just as good as complex music.... but MY favorite of them all is chick corea, to me his music is.. it has everything.
@indigo1384 Keiko divorced Kazu in 2008. They married in 1980 which gives them 28 + years together before their divorce. Many times couples "tend" to get along much better after they divorce. Who knows, they may "appreciate" it each other more and decide to get married...
I love the fact that Keiko has been successful in blending the smooth jazz sound with her cultural Japanese roots. She has given her music and our listening pleasure an expanded demision, particularly with instruments and sounds that are unique to the western ear. Her music is very much like one of the many Japanese poems, with all of the feeling of an unspoken language.
Wow! It's really great to see her on the net. How many times did she come down to Fukuoka? Maybe, four times or so. Well, I miss her. Keiko, come back!
this video isn't tagged as new age. however, matsui is especially noted for compositions that critics classify as new age, whatever these labels of new age and smooth jazz even mean is beyond me.

Kaze42 3 years ago
Her left hand is hitting the pedal for resonance
Myrriad 3 years ago
It's called a keytar. Her left hand is pushing the sustain button, which basically performs the same function as a damper pedal on a piano.
