I love these Valvetronix amps! I picked up the 30 watt version for so cheap the guy probably called the cops when I left. It's the best way to get tube tone without having an all tube amp. Much warmer than the all digital stuff from Line 6. I went a step further and added an FX loop to the PCB and a cabinet out jack like the 50 watt on up versions have, very easy to do on a Saturday afternoon. If anyone is thinking about getting one of these, go for it! They're really good.
Great!! A 'simple' guitar in the right hands is all you need. Imagine what it would be like to live without this manipulated need for brands, image or what other people have!! sigh!! Long live the cheapo guitar!!
Amazing tone! Hey what do you have the EQ on the amp set to? I've also got the orginal ADVT50 and I don't know how you operate the HiGain model so well. x]
IMO the boutique and both UK settings are quite a bit more alive on Vox VTs. I flipped a Line 6 Spider III. It had a great 12" celestion, but any VT would rip it apart tonally. Ideal practice amps!
I own the same amp along with a fender hot rod deluxe. The reason it is not as "high gain" as it advertised is because of his choice of using the strat, which has lower output pickups. A les paul or other humbucker guitar would really show the "high gain" channel in that amp.
One thing though, do you find that with the AD50VT your tone can be a bit to bassy, even with high treble and low bass settings? I have it too and it might be just me/my guitar but its something that bugs me a little about the amp.
you are correct sir ,it is the amp you can fool with the modles and the guitar to get more highs ,i understand the ad 100 vt xl dose not have that problem . good luck
Hey, really nice playing mate! I was thinkin' ( and please answer me, I'm suffering ) that is this 50 watt model enough to play in concerts? I want to by an amp that has enough volume so that I can play live. And I can only afford the 50 watt model :D
This is definitely one of my fav settings for this amp, but I have the 100w version :D. I have a schecter c1 that I put SD blackouts in and this amp makes it scream! nice playing btw!
yeah, most likely. I haven't been able to try it yet, but I'm sure it can.. The guy at Sam Ash who helped me pick an amp told me it could easily handle a smaller size venue
But they are too expensive, ive been playing 36 years. a decent tube amp, an overdrive pedal and a delay is all you need. you can get them anywhere in good used condition for £200 ($300) . i will have to do a gear guide soon.
shit this dude is very good ,2 his tone with single coils is uber good too . HBuckers are great , I've played them my whole life but if you can't appreciate the tone he just had soloing you just don't know whats good . THAT SMOKED MAN !
Ah would have been much better on something with humbuckers, Great playing though, It still sounded good, but i think something like a les paul or an Ibanez would have made it thicker.
Gibsons have humbucker pickups. This squier has single coil pickups. Humbuckers get a crunchier tone and have higher output. Single coils (passive especially) aren't as good for a distorted tone and have lower output.
I know, but it still is a SS amp essentially. It has one tube in the preamp, just for a bit of added warmth to the tone, but I think it still sounds SS.
Yes, I agree with what you said, except the UK modern sounds more like Slash to me because the closest tone to Slash's was the Silver Jubilee, which came out in 1987. Slash's appetite amp was a modded 1959 Marshall Tremelo from SIR rental in LA. Slash has more gain than an 800, but sounds nothing like a 900, but the UK modern sounds a lot like Slash to me.
Depends on what music you play. The XL will probadly be good if you play stricly metal. I would get the AD50VT since you get a better choice of tones with it.
I'm looking for an amp to play at home that will give me nice jazz and blues tones at low volume levels? Would you recommend this amp? How digital does it sound at lower volume levels?
It sounds great at any volume really. I think it works great for blues, but it didn't work great for me when playing jazz. That nice low end tone I want when playing jazz was hard to get with this amp. The bass can get quite "boomy". It's a great amp for any other style of music though.
The modeling on this amp isn't digital. It's a real 12AX7.
From Vox:
The Valve Reactor circuit uses a 12AX7 triode vacuum tube together with an actual low-wattage tube power amp circuit, a virtual output transformer and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates the impedance changes of a real speaker. It also reconfigures itself so that its characteristics are the same as the amps it's modeling (class A, class AB, negative feedback circuit, etc.)
I had a 30, for about 4 months (loaned out from GC) and, I really think you actually lose the punch of that 10" speaker, going to the bigger 50. It just doesn't sound as concise and sparkly, nor do the low crunch or overdrives sound as clear. it seems muddier. I'd like to see a 2x10". I believe all other features are the same,,the 50 might have a loop. But, you can talk your way into a 30 for about $200 bux. hurry, though, they are raising prices in the music world quick.
actually this is one of the best of squiers guitars from this time. They cost about 160 and they are going on german ebay for about 350 now because they are really good. My guitar teacher bought one and waits until it reaches the 500 ;)
Hi. My Vox ad50vt its new. I need to know if its normal that the manual function interrupt the final sound( The sustain isnt long, and finish with a weird sound)
In the others functions(like presets, ch1 ch2) i have no problems.
That might be the built in noise reduction killing your sustain, check the manual on how to turn it off, it involves the bypass button and the edit knob.
That's some pretty fierce sweeping you did there, nice job. Thanks for showing me what the amp will sound like on its different settings. Have you tried this amp with an effects pedal yet?
is that the 1x12 or the 2x12? I checked one out at my local guitar center today but they didnt have anything that would closely replicate the set up im playing at home (epi '66 sg reissue w/ EMG's). Either way, it makes your squier sound really nice, hoping i can expect the same quality results. keep up the good work!
Hey Fenders are awesome! But anyways guitar is all personal preference. Gibson's quilty knowadays is crap. Their $600 faded SG is worse quilty than an squier! Gibson sucks

I had the same amp as you and this US Hi Gain channel gets a great Santana/Boogie tone with my PRS.. It sounds good with your tele too.. THe best part about the valvetronix is turning the powerswitch down and the volume up.. Get that tube feedback and roar..
Oh and if you have a problem wheere it starts sounding bad and/or blowing fuses.. the tubes done.. i replaced mine with a 12ax7 groove tube.. beats the electro harmonix that comes stock.
