But how is it these guys did not rule the pre-grunge worlds?
Answer:
There's no god- it's all a big old crap shoot, friends.
So.. When I feel all nostalgical and pine for the days before satanic oblivion, I know I can feel better by beatin' the stuffin' out of little plushy animals.
Then when I;ve exhausted my passions I concentrate some carcinogenic fumes from burning styrofoam into a small room, and I'm OK again.
We had Paul K over at a winter solstice party in LongBeach back in 1998 - we had a burning effigy and everybody got sloshed on Velvet Hammer punch. Paul K's a cool party guest.
A few years ago I attended one of Paul K's art history classes. On the 1st day of class I was surprised when a short guy with long beaded hair, piercings, tattoos, and crazy clothes came in and started to lecture about "X Rated" cave drawings. I was used to my art history professors being stuffy old men in slacks and dress shirts who talked self consciously about sex and nudity in artwork. Paul K has been my favorite art history professor of all time as he's smart and has a good since of humor.
They played in my Dad's garage in Fresno many years back. Great show. Lots-o-pyro shooting off around gallons of lacquer thinner (it was a paint shop). We had a blast.
@testykitty they played before it was goldfingers, It was Hell's Gate back then. The first time they played there it looked like to building was on fire. I escaped through the front door to breathe and smoke was billowing out the front and back. I was truly surprised that the fire dept. didn't show up. I loved all their shows, but my favorites where at Al's Bar in downtown LA. You couldn't destroy the place so it was everything goes. I miss mayhem like them.
@AnacondaVanaspati yes! hell's gate- i forgot the old name. goldfinger's was the "gussied up" version. we all charged out the front door at one point too. may have been the same show. i never saw them at al's bar (rip).
aaah! paul k! years later i n SF I recognized a co-worker....the bass player of the Imperial Butt Wizards! this brings back happy memories of dancing with Paul K at some Redd Kross-related event.......thx for posting!
