  • Paul Cotton you are Larger than life...smiles, from your Texas Fan

  • I haven't been keeping up my channel since YouTube (via the big record companies) deleted most of them but thanks for all the nice replies.

I wonder if you folks know that YouTube vids are downloadable. Since I can't post a link you'll have to google the term "youtube downloader". It's free and it converts the flv files to avi. I usually use a third party software (magic video converter) to change the avi files to mpeg. Check it out.

  • Im going to see Poco along with Gypsy and Dave Mason tomorrow/Oct 2nd.....can't wait.....i do hope they play this all time classic!!!!!!

  • long live poco

  • I love Poco and always have any of them that can still play I love them all from beginning to end Poco has been my favorite band second, possibly, only to the Beatles. The thing is I actually love them as people. I once had the pleasure of meeting Ritchie Furay backstage with the Ritchie Furay Band.I have played music for going on 36 years now and for me the inspiration of Poco never fades.

  • bad weather runs in front of fine weather...so go on...

  • When I was at the Univ of Oklahoma in the mid-70's these guys were tops......great song, great memories...I have three of their albums!

  • Poco can do no wrong in my world but I'm missing Rusty on the pedal steel too. The harmony here is a barely there whisper and it makes it fun to sing with!

  • The men are older but the music is just as beautiful as it was 30+ years ago.

  • ...loved this band since day 1 and this song can set such an atmosphere...there is no music like this today...no gimmicks here, just a great band doing a great song...

  • Truly a song that gets better with age.

  • Great song-Paul on lead, but Rusty needs to be on the pedal steel for the song to be authentic

  • @hat33b17 ABSOLUTELY!!! thesurfer1974

  • this is from a live dvd reunion at the bellecourt theatre in nashville tn.

  • Back in the early 70's a girl I loved dearly left me. I sent her a letter with these lyrics.

    I still know every line.

  • One of my Favorite Songs! Vocals are beautiful. But, It's NOT Bad Weather.....without Rusty on Steel. I don't understand! Disappointed. Rusty...get on your steel !!

  • Thank you so much,

    so sensible, so much emotion

    simply Great

  • What a song! I've got nothing else to say.

  • bonnie.....i love you more than you will ever...know.....we loved these songs...remember 1978 and forever....

  • bonnie.....i love you more than you will ever...know.....

  • best song ever! "and I believe it's gonna rain" solo written on 12 string by Jim Messina. Got him into poco with that song along from the Duet LP.

    peace

    Sean

  • google mp3iffy to download this song from youtube.

  • I'd take my hat off to these guys, if I actually wore a hat.

  • Isn't it nice to know that not all old guys sing poorly? They sound beautiful

  • The best way to download this as an mp3 is on that site mp3iifffy. Awesome site. GOOGLE mp3iifffy

  • The accordian works quite well, both musically, as well as with the mood and acoustic choice Paul Cotton used. His voice is not as strong as it once was, who's is, and the accordian fills in with that, as well as the tempo. Think about it.

  • great

  • Paul had actually recorded the song with Illinois Speed Press on the LP Duets, but yes he did audition with it.

  • the song is great but is the accordian neccesary

  • I still think this is Paul's best song with Poco even though Heart of the Night had more pop success. If you've even had a difficult relationship breakup and aren't touched by this song..well...you have no soul.

  • One of the greatest country songs ever written. It brings a tear to your eye...

  • amen

  • when I saw them a couple of weeks ago at Penn's Peak Rusty said this was Paul's audition song...

  • NOPE! just an out of print cd with a few extra cuts.

  • just listened to illinois speed press do this and now this! paul cotton.. those bands set the pace for so many other bands that came later..

  • Nice to hear someone mention Illinois Speed Press. I own two albums by them. Are there any others?

  • Don Henley owes these guys everything.

  • at least two bass players! :P

  • Nice to discover these cats again. They were the Beach Boys of Country Rock.

  • You'd think this song were about a woman. It's actually about Paul's band breaking up--the Illinois Speed Press, I think. At least that's what Paul told me in the seventies.

  • Beautiful song, one of my favorites by Poco. It brings back wonderful memories.

  • I shed a lot of tears over this song 30 years ago...just shed a few more...

  • Me too. I still get goosebumps when I hear it.

  • MEK- This one's for you!

  • Rusty should put that useless mandolin away and get back on steel.

  • I understand youe thought. The problem is the mix--not good. The song probably sounds really nice with a mandolin---properly "displayed".

On the other hand, you are so right---that pedal steel piece, in the original, is an icon!

  • I just bought a Poco album at a yardsale just for this song. (A record, kids.)

  • One of the greatest songs to come out of the 70s. I'd forgotten about the magnificent signature sound of Poco til i got this dvd. Americans may have inflicted the much despised George Bush on the world, but they also have produced bands like Poco; the worst and the best of Americana.

  • get over it bubba.

  • I just purchased this DVD.. I had forgotten how much of a contributor Paul Cotton was. Mainly remembered Jimmy, Richie and Rusty.. Saw them in 71.. Great band, great memories..

  • Great memories of a my friend Kenny, he is gone, but my friend Steve and I remember the good days we had, back when the days were great with this good music.

  • I first heard "Badweather" by Poco on the radio back in 1971. Amazingly, 36 yrs. later, for me, this song retains hauntingly beautiful. This is the stuff that classics are made of.

Thanks Poco, for the wonderful music.

Brings back many pleasant memories of the early 70's. Peace.

  • Well, this is indeed one of Poco's best songs but it is sadly missing the CLASSIC pedal steel solo of the original recording. The steel guitar world was set on it's ear by this solo of Rusty's and to have his talents 'wasted' on mandolin instead of playing steel on this song is just downright disappointing.

  • A couple of things to note, Richie has foregone the twelve string guitar for his leads, and also helps Paul on the highest part of the melody "You go and you take me by my hand", about two thirds of the way through.

Sadly, within a couple of months of this being done, George Grantham suffered a massive stroke, on stage, from which he is still recovering. A year or so later, Paulie fell ill in Europe, but he's back and rockin'.

  • Prayers answered here ....Thanx.

  • one of the best songs ever written. it is front and center in my setlist. i performed it twice last month. people who had never heard it before loved it. richie's solos are superb. when you get a high five from rusty young, you have nailed it. god bless paul cotton, what a writer/player/singer/good guy.

  • Isn't that funny (odd)? I picked up an ok Gibson locally the other day and played two tunes---8:05, and this one. I'm 55. The long haired kid at the guitar store (couldn't be more than 30) said, "Oh Wow! Mobey Grape and Poco! You're my hero!" True story! Amazing, no?

  • @mrmesq53.....Richie sang that one line in this song on the original recording off 'From The Inside' and always has; it was too high for Paul. Even tho Richie and Timothy were always my 2 favorite Poco writers, this one was a brilliant song by Cotton......what a soulful voice.

  • This is the tune that got Paulie (Norman, actually) in the band. It has always been my view that he sang the whole thing, and that this was Ritchie helping him out, after many years. I've listened to the original again---sounds like Paul to me. Do you know something I don't? Either way, it's a lovely tune.

His other "all time" song, in my opinion, was "Ride the Country".

Saw the "boys" in August in NJ--they brought out George Grantham, it was nice. They opened for L&M. It was cool.

  • It's just so clearly Richie singing it, the phrasing, the tone, the register. Cowtown Ballroom ca. '72.....perfect concert.....PERFECT!

  • I know the feeling---awesome, all time.

  • @mrmesq53 that guy grew up listening to some good music!

  • Thanks for posting these Boatman!!!

a great classic Poco Paul Cotton song. You know he says that Jimi Hendrix heard this song and told Paul that he really liked him and this song!!

  • I saw Poco do that song in May, 1971 or 1972 at the Yellow Springs Ohio golf course where Richie hails from. It was a free concert and I remember vividly Paul saying "we are going to let Richie do a little lead work" on this song. What a day to rememember! Im going to see Richie and Chris Hillman with Herb Pedersen in July in Chicago. Cant wait

  • NICE POCO !!!

  • paul cotton is the best. singer/player/writer. he does it all. i really like him. he's a good guy too. this is just a great song. i have my own version. i play it all the time.
