Can we here some sample sound clip of this mic you are designing? I am designing condenser mics also, I like most is panthom powered. Hope you gonna show us some of these.tnx for sharing.
Ive tried to get to your web site and I keep getting a message that says its forbidden! I wish the camera had shown some more close up shots. Thank you for posting this though.
Electrolytic caps shouldn't have much of an effect on the sound. If one were to get a mylar cap, they'd run the risk of inadvertently making a highpass filter by picking too small of a value. There is less of a risk with electrolytics because their values usually run well above 1uF.
I doubt a $30 mic will use the best elements or components.
I cant say how panasonic elements compare to low priced condenser mics, but they beat an sm57, as far as producing a natural tone is concerned, much more open sounding and with better bass ( i know they are different types of mic, but considering this will be alot cheaper). SM57 migth be better for vocals i dont know, probably depends on the voice of the singer. So if a $30 condenser mic, comapres to a SM57 then you make a valid point.
You dont have to be cuntish. If you have a point to make kick the knowledge my way. I base what i say on what i've experienced/can back up, and if someone knows something i dont, then wouldn't it be nice to share?
No its not, be it dynamic or condenser they are still microphones, they still do the same thing. I'd like to see someone tell me what microhpones were used for a recording just by listening to the track. Everything before the mic varies so much it makes it virtually impossible. If the difference was so apples and hammers as you put it people would have no trouble.
I am a recording engineer, and you were right when you said that the microphone best for a vocal depends on the voice of the singer. Though some condensers sound better on some singers, Bono records all his vocals through a Shure SM7, which is a glorified 57. Saying that comparing condensers to 57s is apples to hammers is incorrect. The 57 is probably the most commonly used microphone in the world, and not just for snare drums and gtr cabs. And it's won a shootout or two on a vocal session..!
The best thing is to use a couple of spring clips. The type that will hold just about any stick style dynamic (SM-57) or such. The spring will close down small enough to hold one of these. That's what I use for overheads on a drum set.
So when buying a microphone from a retailer we are actualy just paying for the casing shell. How good quality is the microphone you have made ? And could yoi send me a product list and that link, Thanks !

Why using battery to power your mic, where as you can get it from your mixer(phantom power).
gigabrid 2 years ago
@gigabrid not all mixers have phantom power, so the battery can be pretty important

comparing any condenser to a 57 is like comparing apples to hammers.
