What about "mandatory gratuity" that society has to pay servers when they have a party of 6 or more? The tip is 18% of the bill for "mandatory gratuity." What motivation do servers have to do a "good job" if they are getting their tips no matter what even if they give miserable service? I think "tipping" and "mandatory gratuity" is a form of legalized welfare. It would be better if servers got minimum wage, yet the federal government insists on them only getting $3.00 an hour.

This is bullshit. A lot of states have a 'servers wage' that is half the minimum wage of that state. For instance, in Idaho I made $3.15 an hour while going to school. And in small towns, sometimes a restaurant is the only place you can work. Other countries don't do the tip thing. They just add the tip to the price of the meal and pay their servers a good working wage. If only it were like that in America!

Where he's wrong is that they DON'T make minimum wage. There's a lower base rate for people who work for tips. Usually somewhere around $3/hr.
