This probably was shot as coaching tape to play back for the players, since
(1) Very few WHA games were ever televised, and,
(2) The rink did not have a large video replay screen (I think Capital Center near Washington was the only hockey arena until around 1980 to have a video scoreboard).
@fastfootedone True we were the Bullies lol but the 78 team went in a different direction and went with youth ,did you know that 3 guys on that team ended up in the Hockey Hall of Fame? Michel Goulet, Rod Langway and Frank Mahovlich and they also had Mark Napier lol in a couple more years that team would have been awesome they averaged 8000 fans a game were my favorite team growing up beside the Crimson Tide we held the racord for most penalty minutes for many years lol

I remember watching a nationally televised Flyers-Blues game on NBC at the Spectrum. They cut to commercial. When they returned, you see Bob "The Hound" Kelly at center ice beating the crap out of the Blues' Steve Durbano. What happened? During the commercial break, Durbano skated by the Philly bench and hit the trainer in the face with his stick. Bad move, Steve.
I was at this game!I am a Jets fan,all I remember is feeling the pain. They were a team of thugs. If I'm not mistaken Bobby Hulls toupe was pulled off. They beat us up pretty good.We did win the series though!
@shamsankar1 lol I am a proud Birmingham Bulls fan I was 12 at the time so proud to be a Birmingham Bullie but you know they went with youth the next year and four players that were on that team made the Hockey hall of fame plus they had Mark Napier if they had got into the NHL they would have been very good. Hey they were in football country and they knew we licked hard hits hell we showed up at 9000 people a clip not bad for the time I LOVE MY BULLS.
For sure, best post of all. The organ provides the best ambience for a true hockey game, not some piped in music that's too loud. Back in the day, the crowds made the noise in the arena, not the DJ.
@leroydubya Yes. I'm from the same town. He used to come in to our local bar, just FKNG WRECKED. They humoured him by putting up his hockey card over the bar.
It was sad actually. How many guys would have cut off their balls to have been able to play where he did. To see a guy who was there, go down the path of destruction he did boggles the mind. I wish it didn't have to be.
@johnnywad47 That is incredible. But then again, Durbano isn't the only pro athlete in any sport who let the fame and money lead to the path of self destruction after their playing days. You figure he could have stayed in the game as a coach or something. Hey even Dave Schultz, as goonish as he was, managed to land a minor league head coaching gig.
Ah, Glen Sonmor and his band of brawling Alabama idiots.
Durbano was such a brave fellow, blindsiding Bobby Hull. Jets' goaltender Gary Bromley is still to be commended for coming to the aid of the Golden Jet.
This game was the subject in class the next morning at school.
Ahhhhh, the memories!!! Bad News Bilodeau rippin' Bobby Hull's rug off his melon, Joe Daley playin' spearchucker on Bilodeau, Steve Durbano being well, Steve Durbano. Oh yeah, Durbano running after a Jet fan NAKED after jumpin outta the shower!! The Jets & Bulls had some wild nights when they hooked up
My cousin Gord Gallant played in the WHA with the Fighting Saints and others....does anybody have anything at all with Gordy on video...Plz contact me on You Tube my handle is Krokus69...........Thanks
Uh, no. Durbano waived his stick at Fotiu, mayhem. Fotiu dropped his gloves, Durbano the wimp didn't.
After everything seemed to calm down, Durbano "broke free" from the refs and while wailing his gloves like a chick, headed for Fotiu. Fotiu iced him with two shots.
Once the refs had s**t in order, Durby-boy skated and mimed a mooning to MSG. Fotiu went after him in the locker rooms.
uh, no. fuck you asshole. my sister's boyfriend played hockey with him and he's knows different. i believe him and steve durbano was cute. i saw that video. the fotio guy or whatever is ugly :P
I love how the keyboard player just keeps playing the organ while a massacre is happening on the ice! Great WHA memories! anything goes as long as it tells tickets!
pity the rest of the wha teams are no longer in the nhl...and while its up to gary bettman no more teams will play in canada except what we got ,its so evident even if he talks about a return to winnipeg hes just lying the shitbag...
That New York prick Bettman. It's weird how he's so opposed to teams moving to Canada. He'd rather have Coyotes and such teams go bankrupt and forever bathe in debt as the worst teams in the league than having succesful Canadian teams. NHL hockey back to Winnipeg!

The old Bulls were something else. Which we could get a team again with Clarkson as the owner.

The difference between the Jets and the Bulls? The Jets were a hockey team.
That's why we got into the NHL and they didn't.

One of the worst cheap shots ever. Durbano charging into Hull like that. The Golden Jet would have killed Durbano one on one.

Durbano got a dozen games for nailing Hull? Seemed to be a decent penalty for what he pulled. He was in full gallop comin' off the bench.
I doubt Durbano's next suspension was a lifer.
