kids are smart. i doubt they believe him. besides, lemony snicket also states in his books a series of unfortunate events that his story is true. although both authors most likely have a disclaimer on their websites :)
@Euanbuddie What's pathetic about it? The idea of lying to children and having them grow up to become ignorant, or allowing them the option of believing in the fantasy?
@Euanbuddie Oh yes, and lying is fraud. If you steal someone's identity and use it for your own benefit (which in itself is a lie) would be considered a crime, a fraud. Even though it is to help sell the books, the idea that he is involved in this magical fable makes him a fraud.
haha i go to this school he came 2 times oncw when i was in 6th grade and we were so good hes like "i wanna go back to OJH" to see us and he did and this is in our CAFE
Sorry, I frankly think Looking Glass Wars is a cash in on American's idea. I might be wrong, but I've read them somewhat and when they didn't rip off American, they aren't very interesting IMHO.
the books are alright, but they're not anything special. the only one that i really liked was the graphic novel, but that's mostly because i love ben templesmith.
i prefer american's version of alice and i love the game, but i don't think LGW is a rip off of american's alice.
I might have been a bit harsh. Just because you don't like the author shouldn't make you not like the book. I'll admit Hatter M is a pretty awesome character, but his version of the Cat is nowhere near as good as American's.
The author was at my school!

I know he's telling this to help sell and promote his books, but couldn't be go to jail for it?
Isn't it like fraud, where he's lying, acutally saying that he himself found these magical cards. And that everything in his book is true?
For instance, when you lie about someone, it's called slander, and you can get a penalty for it.
Isn't there a rule against lying? Of course I know it's fictional and fun, but it pisses me off.
Those kids are young, they might believe him.

@QuickenedSand that's the point, to make kids believe so they'll buy it. But saying that lying is fraud is kinda pathetic.

I prefer McGee's Cat, but other than that, I think I prefer Beddor's version of the story.
