  • Great Nick..Did you have to keep increasing the metronome to turn the wrist in the left hand like that ..is that how you did it. Like play where your comfortable then bring it up a few points?

    Mike Clark

  • This was really good. I subbed. I have a video just like this one. im not sure if its as fast though.

  • great...is this all wrist and no index finger?

  • @flybeelzebub yes, all wrists.

  • what exactly do ur left hand with traditional grip? Looks different:)

  • @petersinol it's just a traditional grip. most drummers today though, use the match grip (both hands the same).

  • @sussexcounty heh. I know. I play traditional grip too. But You (as Dick Cully too) grip the stick so deep between index finger and middle finger. Does Your ring finger not disturb the stick bounce? Sorry for my english. I hope You understand.

  • @petersinol well, it's not so tight as to disturb the bounce at all.

  • Is your technique having the left hand open for the single stroke?

    Thanks.

  • I don't think my left hand is open as much as my left thumb is more angled out instead of "resting" on my index finger like most drummers. My drum instructor, Dick Cully (search yt), corrected me to play that way. He said it would make a big difference as i kept playing.

  • Beautiful. How did you develop hand speed like that in one year?

  • The snare has great tone and response. What kind is it and what is your choice of heads and preferred tension?

  • It is a 1975 Slingerland snare. The head is a Remo (new) drum head. I do not tension my heads real tight like most drummers. Hope that helps?

  • nice ending

  • You are correct unless you took it as motivation. I just wanted to show what practice and great teaching from one of the World's Great Drummers can allow one to accomplish in a short period of time.

  • fine effort! of course, Buddy Rich's roll, at top speed, was a bit faster and a lot longer. then, he'd thrill you with his creativity and timing with the music.

  • omg ure really good but no lesson :-p

  • whats the lesson in this? ncie tho

  • one year? yea right

  • Yeah, he is correct. I am Nick's teacher and he has developed that single stroke roll in one years time.

  • how do you learn it?

  • WHAT?!?! no way.

    that is incredible.

seriously, if you've been drumming for only one year, please tell me, what do you do exactly on your drum pad that helped you get to this level?

  • Beautiful! Enjoy every minute of your journey with the drums. Dick Cully is beyond words.

  • DAMN ithought you were done at 17

    one year?

    hell no

  • ive been playing for a year and i cant even think that fast!!! at 17 seconds you went from amazing to mind blowing

  • hoy shit dude. youve ony been playing for a year? thats amazing.

  • Impressive single stroke roll Nick. :-)

    All the best,

    Seth Davis

  • Could you give me some of those single stroke exercises that you have been working on to attain that speed so fast?

  • This is truly amazing.

Dick Cully has taught you well. It shows you what practice, determination, and a great teacher can do. Man it took me years to get to that level, but Nick, you did it in just one year...WOW.

    Congratulations and never stop practicing.

I can't wait to watch you in another year from now.
