@RVDMISSISSAUGAKID, CBL was heard here in Philly because of night-time ionospheric propagation. During the day it could not be heard, so local WVCH would sign on at sunrise and sign-off at sunset. On this recording, you can hear CBL in the background during both of these dawn or dusk times. However, during mid-day hours, CBL could not heard at all. WVCH had to sign off at sunset to "protect" CBL's night-time signal.
That is another kind of sign on and off with the court house bells. What format were they then, and what are they now? The signon-signoff it hasn't changed all that much from 1981 to 1984.
How could you pick up that same channel station with CBL (now CFZM) on the same frequency??
