FINALLY!!! I've found someone that I cansing along with and be completely comfortable. I know he probably didn't hit the C#2 (at least not without the help of that tuba) but he might be able to. C#3 wasn't that much of an issue for him.
To the people calling him a tenor: they need to remember, tenor is not the only male voice type. Although it may be the most common, not every man fits within that box.
The fact that he didn't actually hit that C#2 doesn't mean he can't. C#3 isn't a very low note for a man, and his voice is quite deep so I'm sure he can hit at least E2. And hell no, he's not a tenor.
his voice reminds me of a lions roar, and that is a compliment. He must be my fav. male vocalist of our generation, a real mans voice, not some man trying to sing like a woman ( no names) ;)
Vocal range doesn't include falsetto, they are just extra notes. He doesn't use them much so the real working range is probably D2 to G4 or maybe A4, which is the baritone range.
@Snackay Falsettos are not just extra notes?! Falsetto is the type of phonation that is one octave above the the modal register with a breathy flute like sound. Why people always say that falsettos do not count? To me they do count especially if they are sustained. Vocal exclamations do not count because they are not sustained.
@ThePianoguy89 He doesn't use them in his normal range, and they are definitely odd in that sense. Too many male singers use falsetto to make themselves sound like tenors, when they are not.
@Snackay Using falsetto is not an indicative of a voice type. Falsetto is just a register. Baritones can use use falsetto register just as well as tenors. He's not trying to make himself sound like a tenor, if he did he would manipulate his tone to make it sound lighter and that has nothing to do with the use of falsetto. He stil has the vocal weight of a baritone, but he has the the ability to utilize falsetto and he's able to use it live as well.
@Snackay Falsetto does count in someones range, how they use it and what they can do with that register in terms of range can be just as impressive and is just as important as chest register. Most singer dont just use it as an exntention in terms of range, but to add a different dimension to the vocals in a song, especially with a singer like john legend
I don't mean to be a bother or a nuisance but I was just wondering if you could send me the names of the songs used in this video to my inbox or on here.??
I would say John is a mezzo tenor; he can go as low as C2 and go past the tenor C (C5). Then again, his chest register is between a C4 and F4....so in order to go past a C5 he would use his head voice/ falsetto range.
Deg a baritone I say he could hit an f2 but c2? That's a crazy low note even for a bass I doubt he has that much range can we have a video for prince and ruben studdard
did he really do that c#2....i dont think so...i agree w ursus15g it must have been like a horn or something...but if he did it...that's was a pretty good damn low low notee...
Beautiful Male voice. however i doubt he can sing a C2, it sounded like he was really reaching even at low C and thats pretty high for most men so C2 seems unlikely.
C#2? Holy crap. I can't do that. His belts are better too. He's just a great singer. Can you do a vocal range for Justin Timberlake? I'm very curious what his range is. I heard a G2 in 4 MInutes and an A2 in My Love, just to help you out
I love john legend so inspirational, omg can you please do a vocal range of chester bennington from linkin park, he might be a grunge vocalist at some of his metal songs, but songs like breaking the habit, numb, shadow of the day, the little things give you away, he is the best, I highly recommend you to him angel, you would Be amaze at his voice, and he is a tenor. so please..
I love John's vocals. He's one of the best male vocalist that been out for some times. His tone is so rich, and sultry. Love his chest notes, and like you said his voice is naturally deep so anything low he does is already great whatever way he sings. And his head voice is pretty beautiful. YOu should do a vocal range vid for Gavin Degraw, he has a really nice voice too.
I love F#4! :) Wait, I really love them all! John is such a great singer!! :D

Mostly a tenor.
Michael Bublé is a high baritone and he never reached F#5s or G#5s in head register!

@QuietStormMan No, he is a baritone. He doesn't sing tenor notes sustained or easily, unless using falsetto.

The C#2 is him, you can hear a bududiddie bum in it. Also aren't the higher notes falsetto rather than head voice?
