This video actually seems to make the argument that Peter didn't use a Strat on Albatross. The tone here, while very pretty, just doesn't sound like the FM version of the song to me. The opening chords don't have that full, slightly distorted tone that the original has. Too Fender clean. And there's no vibrato bar sound on the original song either, just finger vibrato. This is how it would have sounded if the Ventures had done the tune.
It's what you would call, putting your own stamp on it. It's not supposed to be a carbon copy of the original Peter green version. Also, The Ventures, sounded nothing like this, this sounds more like if the, Shadows were playing it.
Incredible. I always thought Peter Green recorded this song on his les paul, but hearing this guy's strat tone with the vibrato arm makes me think Green might have used a strat as has been disputed. I did a cover of this song, its a bit different from the album, but not bad for a 16 yr old I guess. check out myspace dot com slash tsrag to hear it.
This was nearly 18yrs ago, a lot has changed since then. That was our original lead guitarist, Ricky, exceptional talent. A very accomplished bluegrass banjo player too, hence, why he makes playing, Sultans Of swing look effortless.
Yeah, it's quite nice, though I prefer Ottmar Liebert's take on it.
What stuns me is that this is a Fleetwood Mac tune, fuck, I thought I knew music, had no idea it is a Fleetwood tune.
How do you go from Albatross to Tusk?
Anyway this is quite nice, skillfull and pretty, maybe a little toooo pretty.

I agree. My comment was more directed to "siroliver1" when he said that this version made him think Peter might have used a Strat on the song.
