If this was a recording for release as a record or whatever I would agree that its over produced but as this is clearly a take from a TV show or similar then who cares when all the performers join togther for afun finale - I like it a lot and those women are sssstunning!
This version is very good. I love all those extra musicians like in a live jam session. And the backing vocal girls are all beatiful. I dont understand what you guys complain about.
@jim294 have to agree with you on that. The whole thing is a bit bombastic and a rather forgettable version of a once perfect and tasty pop song. In spite of the abundance of instrumentation and extra vocals, it fares as a weak performance. More often than not, leaving well enough alone is the wise choice when it comes to music.
I have to say, they really did muck up the song, and whats up with the the synthetic drums plus the dude cant even play em not to mention he missed the cymbol in that little solo he did,,,and ,oh fukk it nevermind
was that like the dutch live aid concert? it also reminded me a bit of the roy orbison 'black and white night' finale where all the musicians were on stage
Since when did Billy Preston become a "white" guy? That certainly was a white guy playing the piano, and I didn't see Billy's name in the closing credits, so it sure can't be Billy Preston.
This looks like a Who's Who of the Dutch rock scene: guitarists Danny Lademacher and David Hollestelle of Herman Brood's Wild Romance, Ake Danielson on keyboard, The Star Sisters, Earth & Fire's Jerney Kaagman, Rainbow Train's Dianne Marchal, Jan Rietman on piano, Flairck's Sylvia Houtzager on violin, who else? Of the original "Venus"-line up of Shocking Blue Klaasje van der Wal is missing, drummer Cor van de Beek and singer Mariska Veres have since died.
It's funny - All the things they did to dress that song up; the violin, piano guitar, fancy guitar picking and fatty singing. They just couldn't recapture the magic huh?
One of the girls on "oohs and oaahs" is the gorgeous Marianne Groenendijk, who's been on a few of these things. ANother has the name Titianne, but I dont recognise the others.
@DoctorRadio the 5 woman i see on the background are patricia paay, yvone keely(sister of patricia) sylvana van veen, jerney kaagman(earth and fire) and diana marchall, no marianne groenendijk, in my opinion.
@mariskaveresforever Sure, background vocal group dominated by Dianne Marchal (Hilde), the most beautiful Dutch singer ever to grace a stage. Still performing in 2011 and still strikingly beautiful.
The first girl doing the aah during the middle break looked like Cilla Black - is it her? The syndrum solo looked like it was faked bass player seems to be same guy as original video same as the drummer. Is this some sort of New year's eve special.. pretty cool whatever it was...The 80s crack me up every time. I always loved the song Venus. RIP pretty lady.
@80sVideoLord : The first girl you mention is Jerney Kaagman, who was the leadsinger of the 60's dutch band Earth & Fire. This show was part of the 25th aninversary of Conamus, a dutch organisation for protection of artists rights.
@80sVideoLord they where all dutch artists, zo no cilla black. 3 members of the original shocking blue where there. the drummer, gitarist and of course the singer mariska.
A Goddess on a mountain top Was burning like a silver flame The summit of Beauty in love And Venus was her name REFRAIN: She's got it yeah, Baby, she's got it Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire At your desire Her weapon were her crystal eyes Making every man mad Black as the dark night she was Got what no-one else had Wa!
@mariskaveresforever well, maybe it's just the style of the day...mariska seems cool and detached as ever, but the background singers and some of the musicians look kind of frantic and overly cheerful....
A trap kit is an older name for the typical acoustic drum set. I wanted to specify the drummer on the acoustic drums and not the guy beating on the plastic pads.
Adrian Vandenberg should have been there. He would have really lit it up! I can't believe that's Robby! He must not have practiced much before this show, and the hair is really bad!
