  • frontman's style completely defines early 2000's haha

  • :D

  • I get the chills when he belts out "todaaaay never happened" ! Ugh! Wonderful!

  • Got this album (The Beautiful Letdown) for $0.25 at a yard sale. The whole CD is great, but this song, and "On Fire" are probably the best songs on it.

  • you can tell Jon is nervous! but he's still amazing :)

  • @EyesTelescope07 "Everybody's watching you now..." :)

  • DAMN i typed in this song and ""live" ... they're damn goood live!!! makes me happy :) ... there are artists that actually like they do on the song

  • this is amazinggggg

  • Why did they not sing salvation is here? thats my favorite part :(

  • seriously good music is good music, regardless of where it comes from... christians kick ass if they can jam out like this! Im not a christian by the way....

  • @fedthefukup IT COMES FROM THE MOVEMENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THEIR SPIRITS...THEY ARE SURRENDERED VESSELS......OUTSTANDING. PRAISING GOD WITH EVERY NOTE

  • Salvation is HERE!!

  • @Diablo45calibeR YEAH!!!

  • what a greaT band, and what a wonderful music...

  • @JamesBamf85 and @Skullz930 please don't curse while listening to these guys, i don't appreciate it, and switchfoot doesn't appreciate it, because we worship Someone who doesn't appreciate it. thanks

  • 1:38 what is that guitar effect? Its really cool. Boss PS3?

  • They're definitely sooooooooooooooooo good!!! I luv them!!!

  • kinda like what happened to all time low

  • what is mainstream?

  • I <3 these guys. They're in my top three favorite bands.

  • 1:50, just awesome

  • 4 dislikes?crapp! 4 people didn't know what the dislike buttons are?

ITS FOR JUSTIN BIEBER VIDEOS DICKS! MAN!

  • JON IS SO FRIGGEN CUTE HERE!!! but -gasp- why did they leave out the "Salvation is here" part???

  • @PrettyTiaF imagine what would happen if someone was watching this and was offended at a religion reference, right?

  • @dukefan24112 yeah, but nowadays people sing about "bump that pussy" and Beyonce jirates infront of the camera which is offensive to many people including myself but no one says anything about that! Its like we get all insulted when ppl say something about God or hope or salvation...or postive things in general. no one wants to hear about that. MTV or somethingcant censor Eminem wen he swears but they sensor THIS band for saying SALVATION?? evryone wants salvtion-religious or not:(

  • @maiarien nope. he isn't.

  • Uhh I dont know much about musical technicalities but isn't he singing a bit faster than the music...?

  • I wish I had his hair.

  • Might of raised the tempo a little bit on this.

  • Stop fighting people. Switchfoot, Chevelle or Creed are all great bands. You should be happy you are not listening to Lady Gaga!

  • yes!!!! thumps up to EliAdelman!

  • At 2:50 they skip the key line in the song: "Salvation is here". Why?

  • @DonTDodson I noticed that too :(

  • @DonTDodson network censorship

  • @DonTDodson I've heard they've done that other times as well. Dunno why

  • @DonTDodson Sony music...

  • This guys range is so cool

  • Defs one of the best songs ever written and they didn't ruin it by saying "god" or "lord" or anything. It's kinda like, if its about god, They know it, he knows it, thats good enough, they aren't trying to ram it down your throat.

  • 3 guitars.. not needed. Whitehcapel, Iron Maiden. Not switchfoot.

  • @flylikeagaysex if they have 3 guitars is because they know what they´re doing with the third one :P

  • @DarkHawk139 Or they just wanted to give someone to do.

  • this. is. amazing.

  • Love this song it's cool !~~~

  • why does every switchfoot video have some argument about the christianity of this band? i don't think switchfoot would appreciate it at all.:(

just to get things clear. switchfoot IS christian by faith. they have and always will be. they decided to detach themselves from the label of being a "christian" band because they felt it was limiting their musical possibilities and the people they could reach out to.

  • @MoreLikeMe929 also, jon has always said that their songs could work on two levels. one is the religious aspect of it and other times it could be a song simply about existence or love.

switchfoot is great. and them being christian and not being afraid to share that makes me appreciate them even more.

now, can we just all agree that they are amazing and appreciate the music?:)

  • @MoreLikeMe929 hmm.... i'm gonna have to pull a red card on that one...

  • switchfoot is better then most the un godly bands out there maybe if ppl started listening to switchfoot demon hunter toby mac and all the other good bands the world wouldnt be so messed up

  • 3:09-3:11 made me shiver a little bit.

  • they didn't choose mainstream, mainstream chose them. i could care less. they are an amazing band.

  • @jyfarber you could say that again

  • @jyfarber its cool because they broke away from mainstream to become independent.. they arent in it for the money.. but to spread a good message to people

  • Great preformance.

  • Damn they are amazing live!!! I don't care what you are Christian, atheist, or w/e. You have to give them credit. WOW!!!

  • @Skullz930 that's so true! totally with you, man.

  • The "Salvation is here" part is not in this performance because this song was cut into a live performance version for TV and they only had so much time to perform which made them have to cut out the "Salvation is here+Guitar solo" part of the song.

    There you go.

  • I read about the meaning of this song in different websites and the more i read the lyrics the more i think people are wrong...what if the song is a question posed by the singer or the band...in the first verse he sings about being brought to the world (basicly creation) and then he speaks about daring a person to move ( maybe not in the figurative way but in both figurative and literal way) like today never happened before...like being created never happened before...i know i might be wrong....

  • Other than skipping the "Salvation is here" (which is one of the most excellent parts of the song), you've gotta admit that this is an AMAZING performance of theirs!! :)

  • COP OUT

they didnt say salvation is here!

  • JON <333

  • God's message has got to move to the mainstream. That's where you are!

  • @LKaiMadison so true, it's a lost world, there is hope in Christ

  • @LKaiMadison our only hope

  • Jon Foreman's solo stuff is amazing , great worship music , he gives God the glory

@Atreeisatree he should listen to it Jon clearly sing about God's Salvation threw Christ even in switchfoot latest cd Hello hurricane - Free, Aways etc...

  • dude this version of this song is just amazing

i think its the best version i have heard of them live

  • that performance was magical... they're amazing live. now I know

  • It's all about the music.

  • ... i really gotta stop reading the comments on youtube...... i came here to listen to some good music and here i find all this garbage...... i know i want to comment back on behalf of the Atheists and Agnostics but then i would start a flame war with you religious types...... whatever forget it i just wanna listen to music so SHUT UP ALL OF YOU AND JUST ENJOY THE DAMN SONG!

  • @aTreelsaTree - You are ironic, you think you are religious with all those quotes, but you are judgmental. You dont know switchfoot, do you?

  • Switchfoot denied God in this performance.. God will deny them at heaven's gates.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

The Bible is God's word and God does not lie.

  • @aTreeIsaTree Shut up with that shit. Wanna believe in God believe it. But dont come in youtube with that stupid comments.

  • @aTreeIsaTree switchfoot did not deny God if you listen to what he is actually saying and you will see its about God so who are you to judge them? Just because he doesn't actually use the words God or Jesus doesn't mean they are denying him, many many many infact most other music is so far from being about God and is actually about the 'other side' so, do not judge your brothers in christ they are bringing positive music into a broken fallen world.

  • @jacqui20071

Jesus died on the cross for them and they can't even say "salvation is here"? They do not say what is the truth? Reality check- Salvation IS here. Whether Switchfoot acknowledges it or refuses to, SALVATION IS HERE!!!

God will only acknowledge those who acknowledge Him.

  • @aTreeIsaTree They have been asked to cut that part out on television performances, it also happened at the hard rock live performance so it wouldnt offend anyone.

  • @aTreeIsaTree Dude, Switchfoot does acknowledge that. I've met the guys, and seen them play, and they do everything they do to praise God. And remember the part "salvation is here" wasn't added untill they came out with the second version of the song, and following it they added a guitar solo, which is also missing in this performance. My guess is that this the first version they're playing.

  • @aTreeIsaTree Oh please....

  • @aTreeIsaTree

Maybe there is more than one truth and more than one realtiy? The only thing I believe in is that every human being on this planet should be able to decide which truth or believe they choose for themselves.

  • @aTreeIsaTree take it easy man, maybe they didnt play that part because its super high vocally and jons voice already sounded strained . you dont know their reasons, and its not your place to judge them

  • @aTreeIsaTree just because they didnt say salvation is here doesnt mean God will deny them in heaven.

  • i missed "salvation is here"

  • Rock' N Roll men!!full of effects!!!the voice was hot and tromendous!!whew..

  • beautiful!

  • Yesterday they played show here in Slovakia...It was sooo amazing and awesome...Looking forward to the next show.....

PS: Jon really looks like Kurt Cobain......:o)

  • Who gives a fuck if theyre Christian? Its all good sounds that matters. If they have faith as well as good taste in music, good luck to them!

  • Not getting into an argument or debate here, but just because A band sings about stuff to do with Relgion doesn't make them a "Christian" rock band. Switchfoot are an alternative rock band, if you want christian stuff, please, go listen to Creed.

  • @Ledgendwood if they arent a christian band then why did i see them at Creation this year? u dont have to be ashamed to say you like a christian band (if u are idk im just saying that to everyone)

  • wow!!

    OMG

    amazing

  • ok at 3:13 chad is just rockinnn

  • Love to see this version live! Thanks gentlemen!

  • Incredible performance.

  • this is my favorite performance of this song I have found so far :)

  • The tempo seemed faster to me so maybe it was a time constriction they had and that's why the salvation line was kept out

  • Actully, when they signed with Sony the big guys said that they couldn't say anything about God or Jesus on stage or in their music, so they had to work around that... but hey, now they've worked back to being independt and release one of their most spiritualy deep albums to date... not to mention all of Jon's solo stuff

  • Makes tons of sense. For one I'm glad they left Sony. It seems everything is what they want it to be now. Oh well its sony's loss.

  • wat are we talking about with the 'solo' line? what solo line?

  • thats soo crap! he left out salvation is here??? but on another note jon foreman's alright isnt he lol

  • 2:52

    where was "salvation is here"

    ???????

  • @liladybug107 the music is a bit catolic,so for those who arent from that religion they just respect and decided to dont play

  • @CazouS lammme the salvation version is so better

  • @liladybug107 i know i think is better too but some ppl that dont follow any religion could not be satisfied.that's why im talking.^ ^

  • ahh Lovely performance..The mix wasn't bad (for TV), and the dissonant guitar part @ 2:12 makes my toes curl!!

  • yeah i know there great performers but WOW this one is REALLY awesome.Great band

  • Love his accent <3

  • where are you from? its normal american accent!!! what makes it so great?

  • Yeah i know, sorry, I think I meant the way he sings ya know, hard to explain xD

  • epic Switchfoot song.I never get tired of listening to this.

  • No...i've seen Christian performances where they took out the salvation is here and solo line due to time...I think it was a time issue...even though i've seen other artist get wayyy more time on Letterman..so it might also be a q-score issue

  • The place have a great acoustic, the musica sound so fucking awesome in letterman

  • I think you guys are missing the reason Switchfoot went "mainstream". It wasn't for the money. If someone hears this song and likes it they go and buy the cd which has lyrics about salvation and other topics that cover the gospel. Bands like P.O.D., Anberlin, Mae... they're all Christian bands that have a mainstream audience. Personally I say more power to them and I pray that God would continue to bless your ministry!

  • @EliAdelman I agree. You can't knock Switchfoot for what they are doing, awesome band non intrusive but nicely subtle christian lyrics.

  • yeah, too true

  • @EliAdelman I don't doubt what your saying at all. But there are also bands out there that have used the christian market just to get a record deal. They hid behind Christianity until they get noticed and all of a sudden, Christianity goes out the door and they want nothing to do with it. Perfect examples would be 12 stones, BlessTheFall, Chevelle, All That Remains and the most popular one...Creed.

  • @gregmyersjr Umm, Creed is an actual Christian band you dumbass. And Chevelle never pretended to be a Christian band. Are you really that stupid?

  • @BadassRaiden well chevelle was signed to a christian label at one point

  • @Haveada Yeah...Squint Records, who, ironically, ripped them off. I mean the quality of that album was horrid, ugh don't get me started on that one. lol...In fact, their father company produced Amy Grant, and alot of big time gospel artists. I can't remember the name of it though.

  • @gregmyersjr Really dude, Chevelle? Are you tht much of an idiot? They didnt pretend to be a Christian rock band, nor did they ever say they were. There songs were labeled under Christian and there songs were distributed to Christian marketin areas. Peter himself said he kept the bands faith out of their music. And Creed wasnt doin it either. There songs are abt spirituality, not religion. There's a big difference buddy. Get your facts right before you start criticizing bands.

  • @BadassRaiden hey, man. Chill out. I'm not criticizing anyone. I was just pointing something out. Not criticizing, preaching or hating at all. Personally, I love Chevelle. They're a great band! And I love Creed too. Creed was the 1st rock band that I started listening to and are who got me into rock. Just calm down, dude. No hate...

  • @EliAdelman so you think its about the gospel. Not because they like to make music?

  • @11010101101110111111 It's all for the glory of God.

  • GO JEROME!

  • such a powerful voice...

  • i love it at 3:00

  • i don't see why people can't just say what they want that's religious. Do people really get that offended? "Someone has different beliefs and opinions than me? And they have the audacity to speak their mind? How dare they!?!"

    closed-minded douchebags

  • haha seriously right?

  • my guess is that there was a time slot that they had to fit the song in (like they have on most late night shows) that's why they took out the solo and salvation line. I'm pretty sure Letterman didn't tell them to take it out because it was religious.

  • the reason why they block the religous parts isnt because letterman prefers sex comments over it,

its because everyone argues over religion like its important or some shit.

everyone starts arguing what they think is right and it just makes a big ass scene.

  • Switchfoot and their producers SOLD OUT for the money! Switchfoot, I Dare you to move away from the mainstream.

  • they did. this is old news. they left theyre record label and created their own. hello hurricane was produced by the same guy who produced their first three albums.

  • "Salvation is here" is the best part :(

  • --Its sad that religion can be censored like a bad word or like nudity......and people wonder why we're all going to hell--

  • I love the thing Tim does with his bass whenver they hit the chorus

  • why'd they cut out Salvation is here and the guitar solo? thats an awesome part!!!!!

  • DARE YOU TO MOVE ALL SON OF KING

  • if that's true that letterman's show can sensor religious phrases, that's crazy, because there's a lot worse stuff that people say in songs than that.

  • !!!!!!

THEY DIDNT SAY "salvation is here"??????

  • K.M...LOVE PARIN KITA..

  • beautiful.... ; - )

  • they left "salvation is here" out.... that's my fave part of this song.... still sounded good though... just a lil disappointed.... (0_0)

  • probably left it out becuz its a pretty hard note to hit live.

  • .... and since letterman's show told them to censor it. ;) Trust me, he can hit that note live.

  • @Heelincal12 told them to censor what?

  • @Danz2003 after Jon sings "Where you gonna go, Where you gonna go?" he is supposed to sing a very high "Salvation is here." But he doesn't in this version because Letterman probably didn't want all the Christian-phobes to go nuts over it.

Look up the music video for dare you to move and fast forward to 2:50 and listen to the end of the bridge. You'll see what I mean.

  • @Heelincal12 oh yea i see what you mean. i think thats ridiculous that they would have to censor one line in a christian bands song for fear of offending people! Would they do they same if it was in fear of offending a christian I wonder?

  • @Danz2003 Yeah it's a double standard. To be honest tho, I was stoked that they got on Letterman's in the first place!

  • @Danz2003 of course they wouldn't! Look at all the songs which feature harsh language, and the songs that have suggestive sexual lyrics, people throw a GD around as casual as talking about the weather nowadays. Is it offensive? To me, yes. Do they care? Of course not, as long as they're bringing in the money by doing so.

  • no, hew hits that note live all the time. Letterman most likely made em take it out :(

  • it,s because when you play at letterman, they can tell you to put parts of the song aside ..like if it's religious or if it needs to be censcored.

  • this version is way more up-beat than the track...its faster

  • dey sound gud:)
