  • i like it way more this way with the trio:D

  • OMG! Steve Jordan with long hair..... nice :)

  • I kinda find it cool that John Mayer's been digging D' a whole lot. I wonder if Pino's presence was a large part of that. XD

  • Sorry guys for this video skipping the way it does. I got this from score1more4me almost 5 years ago. The skip was there from day one and it's probably bothered me worse than it has you guys. -sorry

  • its all good mate no big deal, i appreciate u just having it on here 2 thumbs up!

  • The skip makes it sound cooler to me.

  • from the version of this on try!....how does he get that specific tone?? pedal wise???? specifics...

  • Just his stratocaster and a fender tube amp with spring reverb I'd guess. I'm a bassplayer so I'm not that much into guitar sounds. :)

  • i'm just curious to know what compressor he has. The Trex maybe?

  • Ah. Then I have no idea. As said, bass player here. ;)

  • I'm not sure if he is using a comp here. But maybe I cant hear it. If he was its probably a keeley.

  • What is with John's guitar tone at the Grammy's? It's fine for the average Joe, but it isn't anything like the signature "Mayer Tone". This and the 2007 performance have a pretty poor tone considering all of the equipment at his disposal and caliber of ear which he employs.

  • Dude this is compressed to shit from recording to youtube, his tone didnt change, its just the recording, they will always come out a little different

  • Oh no, you're right! That's why nearly every other one of his videos sounds great. My bad..... Wrong. It has nothing to do with compression, retard, it's the amplification and effects of the instrument.

  • @BurnsidesMusic sounds like his regular clean sound, but its gonna vary a bit performance to performance

  • IT'S THE VIDÉO!! HAHAHA!

  • anyone notice his timing is wayyyyyyyyyy offl im a big fan or mayer, learned all his songs like other guitarists fans, but wtf is up with him not keeping a good tempo? his band carried him in this... anyone else notice this live>

  • There's actually some hiccuping / skipping issues with the video. Very annoying.

  • Yeah, it is the video, just watch it carefully.

  • Thats not his timing, its the video skipping noob lol

  • "Go Back & Listen To Daughters...Bitches"

    -John Mayer

  • Pino and Seve, isn't Pino Palladino a cool name? lol

  • john mayers not a bad guy.

  • I love this song. However, I LOVE the irony of Mayer singing it. He is the boy that I (as a mother) warn my daughter against lololo. No really, he will eventually settle down. Until that time, NO NO NO...NOT my little girl lololo xoxoxox

  • was this when 'daughters' won song of the year ?

  • Nice performance! He always cuts out my favorite part of the studio version---the "call out" towards the end. '

    Good tune though.

  • Jajj, magyar!

  • I don't know what the video poster is talking about in his description of the video, but I've heard D'angelo's Send it on and this version of Daughters sounds nothing like it. Or any version for that matter, just because Pino is playing bass on both of them doesn't mean that they're in the same tune. Just my 2 cents.

  • Nice drum set up, minimalistic to say the least.

  • When you're a real drummer. That's all you need.

  • The video micro-cuts every bunch of seconds :(

  • its like the biggest groove killer in the world

  • haha yea, also makes the song sounds sloppy

  • can yall be decent clearing something up? thanks mrrampage i appreciate your info

  • They actually weren't struggling, the video is just lagging as hell!

  • Mr strings, please don't be a dumbass, that's Mayer, Palladino and Jordan you're offending!. It's conversion problems which tears up the vid, not their timing. Never doubt these masters please

  • i agree with u in that they are correct. the vid is sazzin but dont eat up shit because they're "masters." masters do make mistakes you know. They are good, not gods.

  • Actually, they are indeed gods. (Pino and Steve Jordan, at least...)

  • if thats what you think then you're struggling with your eyes.

  • i think it's the video... they're struggling a lot. i can't really think it'd be this bad.

  • if you have ever been to a mayer concert, he always changes up his lyrics...its because he's a real artist who doesnt have to stick to the script all the time. its always tasteful and full of meaning.

  • And it always sounds perfect.

  • This song isn't as good as the one he did in where the light is. But the guitar playing is still awesome!

  • First performance of the Trio! (I think).

  • Actually, the first performance of the Trio was at the tsunami benefit in either very late 05 or very early 06 when they did "Bold As Love." :)

  • i dun think he messed it up i think he did it on purpose coz he said it right after the word he didnt think and how could he forget his own lyrics

  • Comment removed

  • he sings it that way sometimes...

  • dude, he changed the words on purpose, he also changes the melody of the vocal part

  • well dang i knew that as soon as i added the comment people sorry

  • The vid isnt that tight... how come?

  • Kinda, but its not only mothers, both parents,

fathers be good to your daughters..

And ya, John stuck his foot up those asses

  • it's not kinda, it's exactly what it is. haha he's explained this song entirely before. but yeah, some dad's are dicks. personally, moms make me angrier.

  • what kind of snare is steve jordan playing?,. it looks so thin

  • to bad there are pieces of film missing so the groove gets fucked up at a lot of places. great track though

  • Steve Jordan is the man.

  • wohoooo! It's John Mayer Trio!

  • what a bassist! what a bass! e bravo pinoXD

  • i met pino(bass) a couple of weeks ago when he was on tour with the who, nice guy.

  • err... the song is about how frustrating it is to love someone who can't love you back because of how they've been treated growing up. so there...

  • i think this guy is right. i was thinking about it last night and it all makes sense. im glad im not the only one who thought of that.

  • um the message isnt that females need the because they get off track- its that they become mothers and nothing compares to the love of a women or mother

  • no....it's saying that fathers and mothers should love their daughters properly because girls become lovers who turn into mothers and they are often what they've been taught or they treat you how they've been treated......he's SO deep! :)

  • Na, its that they become THEIR mothers, and if they have good mothers, they will be good women

  • hey i did a cover on daughters it would be awsome if u guys checked it out and gave me ur feed back ty

  • I can't get over how he plays....

  • is he with the trio here?

  • ya, trio was formed for this performance

  • u think its sloppy because the video is lagging in some parts

  • good message, every child needs both parents and that is the utmost truth, but females need the most attention, females really need to be raise by her parents and other family members. boys, its kind of easier even if they dont have both parents. Boys learn to be aggressive strong, and not mentally focus, females easily get off track, good song john mayer.

  • i love pino paladino.he's such a hell of a bassplayer

  • he might also be the only bass player in the business that can make John look short!

  • no one else thinks that this live version was pretty sloppy?

  • just the drumming... i think

  • wow, was that comment made as a joke?

  • Wow! sweetie your confussed "The Fray" was the band who did the song "Where did I go wrong I lost a friend" The name of the song is "How to save a life" thats my favorite song I should no, and this is John Mayer...

  • that's not dave matthews, that's definitely john mayer.

  • are u dumb

  • this is a kick ass drum and bass section!!

  • It's no joke my friend.

  • Very Creative!

  • man, i gotta get a tab to this version. anyone got one?

  • that's almost the same as acoustic, without strumming.

  • I disagree with you that's another version because the acoustic version, he plays it like chords but here he distinguish the string and he plays other things ( like 0:12 or 0:25 for example )

  • Pino is a god

  • the secret to steves groove is in the hihats. absolutely epic.

  • steve is owning the kit in the last chorus. awesome.

  • this song me father send to me,, whaha,, i do really like it:D

  • Johns playing is great in this video, no need for a delay pedal when you have dynamics on tap like that!

  • Awesome song - that's one thing...

but Pino is something too.. That is some awesome presence in something that simple...

  • So is Steve Jordan. so simple yet so beautiful

  • Definitely!! But seeing as I'm a bassplayer that's where my attention is. ;)

Steve Jordan is amazing too.. I love his drive and ability to stay in the pocket but with awesome energy.

Three great musicians = great music

  • the great thing about Pino, willing to be in the background but still garnering huge adulation from real musicians, he is the real deal!!!

  • Gosh i love Pino Palladino's name. (hope i spelled that right!) Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?

  • pino's playing is just superb. as is this band as a whole.

  • PINO!WOO WOO!

  • what's this snare drum steve is using in this movie?

  • jhon you rock..if only my parent's got it!!!

  • what a line up

  • Trio FTW! My three favorites in each instrument!

  • dude, pino is a hero

  • Damn I want to play at the Grammy's someday

  • I love this song... but the origionals better, mostley just him and his gitaur

  • Pino ftw!!!! :)

  • I love Send It On!

  • demasiado bueno !!!! el esta iluminado por un rayo especial de luz que dios invento para el...desde venezuela

  • Pino is UNIQUE

  • I don't like this version of the song. But the original is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Exceptional musicianship. With Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino they create a nice three piece groove. I saw Clapton in Nov. and Steve Jordan was his drummer.

  • i've been searching for that kick drum on the net all night, can't find it! anyone has any idea?

  • found it.. the site's trixon(dot)de. they stopped building it late 60s though =( gorgeous drums

  • Yup - it is a 1960's Trixon - made in Germany. They were a weird shape. Sold mostly in the UK and Europe. My mate had a full kit in red sparkle

  • This is my daughter's favorite song.

  • lol i've noticed that john mayer always bounces his left leg when he plays sitting down. i guess to keep the rhythm or it's just habit :P

  • John Mayer is incredible, His song are strong and addictive, he really is an amazing talent

  • i love this song

  • Yes Pino is all over Voodoo. And you all need to pick it up. By the way, the Trio does Chicken Grease on The Blues Mix, if u can find it. It is so crazy sick. He plays chicken grease and mumbles over it like d'angelo and then they go into cissy strut.

  • There doing the "send it on" version probably because Pino Palladino played bass on most of the "voodoo" album by D'Angelo, including the song send it on

  • great video, very good performance, looks like a radio mic with an sm87 capsule, which would explain the heavy sybalince's on every s sound ( charactiristic of that mic)

  • ur a sound engineer person aren't you? lol.

  • The drummer is the great Steve Jordan, though you prolly know that by now.

  • please let us know when anyone achieves perfection!

great song, great performances. amazing talent.

  • Ample support from Pino & drummer. But... Mayer sounds out of breath. You're sitting down for god sakes! To my ears, the kid tries way too hard to be soulful & believable. Pino is a master at supporting a singer with tone like butter. A Fender P strung up with flats is truly the way to go in this setting.

  • Big thing about Pino is he uses flatwounds. And a great muting technique.

  • whats with the facials??

  • who is the drummer ?

  • Steve Jordan... super funky man. i devoted an entire drum lesson to him in one of my videos...

  • I much better prefer Pino's BASS-Y tone over the trebly, dankity-dank tone of the slapper/popper bassists.

  • do u know what settings he uses by any chance?

  • I agree with you in this context only. Sometimes the song needs that crystal clear not trebly,dankity-dank tone but image this same tune with that razor sharp Marcus Miller bass tone! Now that would be Awesome!!

  • Pinos tone is great in this vid, proper bass tone. Roll the tone knob back and lay it down low, gorgous!

  • what can you say? it's Pino.

  • "Send It On" wheres that pop up?

  • ya, seriously! i like "daughters", but "send it on" is fucking sick!

  • That was the first time I ever saw John Mayer on TV. And that's the first time I've seen it since February 13, 2005. I remember being shocked because he played it electric, but I loved it!

  • John Mayer has a beautiful voice

  • Pino originally taught me how to play guitar. Yes, i know he plays bass... but he is infact an awesome guitar player too. Anyway great stuff

  • OK- not the greatest performance . . BUT! Consider this- how well do you have to be respected to be able to say "Ok, remember that aware that I won for song of hte year? Well this is how I play it now and if you want me to play it, it's the way I'm going to play it" - What a soft rocking bad mo-fo.

  • great stuff. I like Mayer's new approach and style. and Pino is one of the best bass players ever. So much groove.
