Despite the fact that Hogan kicked the legs out of a lot talented pro wrestler back in the day to keep his spot. i.e playing politics. This match is a classic. This is my Wrestlemania Rewind.
I was about 15-16 when this happened. I remember that my Dad, who NEVER watched wrestling, even knew about Slaughter's character. Slaughter literally feared for his life during his entire tenure as an Iraqi sympathizer because he would get death threats galore on a daily basis. I couldn't even imagine how much more the WWF and LA Sports Arena had to beef up security because there were quite a few loons who were threatening to kill Slaughter before or during the match.
@Heartborne7thSeeker That was just Hulk Hogan's gimmick, just like Sgt Slaughter's gimmick. What has Hulk Hogan actually done for America? The real American heroes were drafted into the wars of the past and risked their lives daily.
@Heartborne7thSeeker I think Sgt Slaughter/Triangle Of Terror were taking a risk posing as Iraqi defectors back then. There are some people in the world that take wrestling VERY seriously and are crazy enough to believe it and try and shoot him or something lololol
@Heartborne7thSeeker It may be that wrestling has had it's day and its time for something new. Wrestling has been exposed as a filthy business due to steroids so many times since it became big in the mid 80's Everything seems to have already been done in wrestling. Nothing is original anymore. A lot of these early deaths among these guys might stop if wrestling went off the air and we got something new.
This match is really underrated in my book. Also, in my opinion, it's Hogan last "great" match during the Hulkamania era. After this, he deflated off steroids a ton and the red and yellow began to lose a lot of steam and wasn't as popular later in the year and the next two years until his departure in 93 after King of the Ring.

Remember back when they had actual interviews, where an interviewer would ask the wrestlers leading questions so they could do their schtick? So much better than scripted promos.
The champ shoulda came out last!!!!!

I don't know if it is just me.
But when real american starts playing and Hulkster walks in with the american flag,I just tears of pure AWE in my eyes.
He really was/is a true american icon and a symbol of freedom and justice for every man.
The modern day wrestling is but a weak shadow of what it was back in the golden WWF days

@TheDN3A416 I know and I do agree with you.
After having seen hogan knows best,I started to look upon him in a new way,
and there are many things about him and his family that I think is bad and not right.
But as an icon of America,I stil think he is awesome and the message he sends
be it a gimmick or not,is a positive one and I do respect that.

@TheDN3A416 it is funny you say that, because I remember that they said
that they got a lot of hate mail from fans and people who wanted to harm slaughter
in real life because of his defect and even some people wanted to kill him and
some threw stuff at them in the ring and during their entrance.
And yes! back then wrestling was more than just wrestling,it was real to a lot of
people and I think that shows how awesome it was back then.
Not like the shit wrestling today.
