  • That guy's knee must really hurt. So much for the arrow...

  • it was because of this why i bought a zx7 back in the day lol

  • which version of the mame rom is this - it has a much easier first stage than the one I've played on mame "shangon".

  • I enjoyed the original arcade so much, you would steer by literally hanging on the bike and shifting your body from side to side. Man how I would love to have that at home!

  • 8yrs old = i played this, 16 yrs old = i bought GSXR! :)

  • Damn dude! You're really fast! I can't even get past the first lap...

  • Superbikes running in Africa desert.... yeah!!!! and you start with 8 bikes, but you pass by like 100 bikes during the entire course!!!!

    :D

Man, i loved this game back in the arcades...

  • 1997, WHY DID I EVER LEAVE YOU?! this, tekken 2, and super street fighter were at the old laundromat down the street and i swear to god, back then if it were up to me (and not my mom) we would have worn dirty clothes for the rest of our lives if it meant i had quarters to play this game hahaha and at six years old i fuckin sucked at this game too but it was just so damn mystifying XD

    thanks for the upload!!!

    -Jan

  • this was on that 4 pack thing on the Genesis.

  • GOING TO THE LAUNDROMAT WAS FUN WHEN THEY PUT THIS GAME IN

ONLY A QUARTER TO PLAY.AND TO THINK THEY WANTED ME TO PAY 50 CENTS FOR THIS GAME.

  • i cant believe that the music in this game is in sonic riders series

  • awesome video!!! i miss this game sooo much, childhood memories

  • damn old times i had this on SEGA!!

  • Man this makes me wanna break out my mega drive. Man I sucked at this game though....

  • back when sega...was sega...

  • And that means turning it over to our tamed racign gamer.

Some say he can make 32 bit games quiver at his very presence. Others say that Sonic the Hedgehog is his b!tch. All that we know is, He's called the VirtuaStig!

  • can it be that the PAL-version of this game is different in grafik and music? I have this original and working on "sega mega drive II" and I looks a bit different from this and the music sounds a bit more "8-bitty" XD but better in my opinion. or is this a later version of the game?

  • @PRSStyle88 The version in the video is the original arcade version, the graphics and music samples are better due to the arcade hardware. Latter the game was ported to the Sega Megadrive with slightly downgraded graphics music etc due to the Megadrives system limitations.

  • This game is my new crack.

  • its funny how your bike is 10 times faster than the competition

  • Suzuki was obsessed with racing games until he made Shenmue, one of the best series from Sega

  • Wow... this brings back memories. It feels weird looking at it today, over fifteen years later.

  • I miss playing this game :'( *Uncontrolled sobbing*

  • Im good at this game but your heaps better. I always get slowed up big time on stages 5-6 on this country but you ,ade it weewee

  • I can't count the amount of times you nearly collided with other bikes towards the end: either you've got the luck of the devil or you're just that damn good. In any case, good run - very impressive.

  • Super Hard-On

  • Get that turbo superbike rippin!

  • WHOOHOO! Found my favourite soundtrack on youtube! "Winning Run"! It's featured on a race video made by JMCDS45! Check it out, you'll love the music!

  • Nice! Too bad you were not playing my favourite soundtrack. (a japanese type of rock...I don't know it's name!)

  • i had this game for sega.... was it called hang on?

  • @crabheart Yeah. That's the Classic. Hang-On may have stopped but the Main Music of Hang-on and "Outride a Crisis" from Super Hang-on lives on "Sonic Riders Series" with the Bike itself.

Now it's time for you to get Super Hang-on if you never did. Classic.....

  • 28 seconds left! I'm lucky if I've got 8 ! Superb run!

Love this game, used to play it in the local arcade, suprised me cos I wasn't 'into' bikes, but got hooked on it. Love hearing the supercharger/turbo winding up, until one of the other bikers always gets in the way.

  • it took me a year of playing this on the genesis to learn B+C=turbo xD

  • That's one hellava run! Nice playing.

  • TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Nice run.

  • Hey, the other riders don't try to ram you like they do in the Amiga version!

I like how you start with 7 other riders in front of you and by the finish, you've passed about 200 of them. :)

  • @lurkerrekrul No kidding. How many riders really entered this race? haha

  • I loved this game and the music when I was kid. A lot of my childhood allowance was spent playing this in the arcade. Would LOVE to play this now that I am older!!

  • wer dieses spiel beherrscht ist ein King......da ist alles andere nur dreck...

  • FUCKING GLORIOUS GAME

  • This shit was fun as fuck though.

  • omg this rocks, i remember when u had to build ur bike up, u had sponsors, brilliant early 90's rocks

  • I love the music

  • I had no idea that the graphics were this good. Wow.

  • Comment removed

  • I love the music sega had on their arcades!!! And sega genesis! Awesome!

  • is it just me or speed for speed, the bike goes faster than in the genny version?

  • @weds9994 : I noticed that too. It seems ridiculously faster than the Genesis version.

  • Comment removed

  • Did the original cabinet have one of those bikes you lean on?

  • @MindstormXL yep they did.

  • this guy drives very well!!! one time, I passed Asia!!! but America and Europe never!!!

  • ここのコメントを見る限り、日本のゲームが世界中で愛されているんだなと思う。

    outride a crisisは本当に素晴らしいBGM。

  • Furthermore...I couldn't help but notice that while the sound of the turbo continues to increase in frequency, your actual speed does not. This particular soundtrack is the most awesome as well!

  • Childhood relived!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Does anyone know the name of the arcade board that SEGA originally released this on? Sorry, I'm a nerd.

  • Space Harrier Hardware

  • This is incomparably better than Forza or Gran Torismo. Less is more.

  • Wow better than some games today.

  • @falkerhard Better than all games today!

  • I was minus three years old when this game came out.

  • I was one year old.

  • lmao...the stig!!

    top gear lol

bad ass music in hang on btw

i try to play one of the keyboard solos

  • The Genesis couldn't come close to reproducing the graphics of this game. Simply put, the hardware for Super Hang-On consisted of at least, TWICE the power of the Genesis(2 x Motorola 68000 @ 10 Mhz vs. 1 x 68000 @ 8 Mhz) and three times the sound power (3 seperate processors vs. 1).

What's even more amazing is that the arcade system was already 4-5 years old when the Genesis was released.

Just a little FYI, the arcade technology for Super Hang-On is identical to the orginal Hang-On.

  • OMFG that is just stupid...! You are one lucky SOB!! Well done!

  • @offffofof GTFO next gen scrub -6 BITCH

  • What I liked the most on this arcade game where the controls. You did "hang on" there... literally. :)

  • Oh man. This game DEFINED "arcades" for me when I was younger. These days it's hard to find any functional arcades. Let alone one that still has this game installed and running.

  • @travisuped they have this arcade at the McDonalds in my city. How bizarre.

  • wau..memories are coming back..i played it with my friend when i was 12 the whole summer...but we made it, we played the game till the end..i will never forget that summer..:))

  • well done! i always crashed 1000 times in 1 round lol

  • Oh this really takes me back to those long summer weekends playing this as a kid. Thanks.

  • I would think Super Hang-On would have emulated pefectly on the Saturn or 32x, games using the same Sega harware as Super Hang On, such as Space Harrier, OutRun, and After Burner, were nearly perfect on the Saturn and 32X. Too bad this one was never ported past the Genesis- which did a decent job of getting the game ported, but the arcades were still superior in these days, as we can see here with the increased speed smoother more detailed graphics as compared to the Genesis port.

  • yeah thats what we dealed with back and the day and said okay to,outrun looked flat on genesis tougt still great conversion but not the full dog.

  • This game takes tremendous skill and patience to do well.

  • omg bad for real!!!!!!! ㋡

  • is this the game where you can kick the other riders of their bikes? I had that game when i was a kid and I thought it was the funnies thing ever :P

  • that would be road rash

  • Yeah, I just got my old mega drive back and just started playing road rash again... so sweet! :P

  • Theses were the days! 5*****

  • Now this is a awesome game to play everyday!! XD

  • love the music!

  • VirtuaStig.....racing game rapist ;)

    awesome job man!

this was my Outrun as a kid :)

  • There's something wierd going on because on the one I have (mame) the course is more bendy and has more bikes. I came here for techniques and now I'm confused.

  • There are two versions of the game, a regular and a limited edition. I'm pretty sure this is the limited edition version because the first turn is a left, while in the regular version the first turn is a right.

What's weird is that the starting screen in this video doesn't show the words "limited edition" above the title, but mine does.

  • Im liking the music ;D

  • Nice going dude!! remember the Arcade cabinet for this with the Full size bike?? great stuff..

  • You can play the shit out of this game! Kudos to you! I have this on 6-Pak for my Genesis, even though my mom only brought it for Streets of Rage. To this day i suck at this game, even more than i suck at Golden Axe!

  • I used to love this on Megdrive forgot about how good the music was too !

  • Great game. Big sprites, very smooth scroling. I''ve recently found the wonder that is MAME. Still I can't finish the beginner level. Maybe i'm just getting old.

  • the end was nice :)

  • I dont know why racing games today cant be as good as this one was. I loved building up my bike like an RPG chracter, buying all the parts, new drivers etc.

Nothing feels as good as mega drive games used to anymore :(

  • aint that the truth!

  • I just downloaded Gunstar Heroes for the PC, which lets me reminisce on the last greatest shooter ever made. I still play Sonic - 3 very often, and think I am going to look for this game, and the Shinobi and Golden Axe series for the PC too :)

I have a top end Intel I7 920 and ATI 4870, but what good are graphics when all the games today suck?

I'm grateful for street fighter 4 though, there need to be more old titles remade like that with the EXACT same gameplay, but new modern graphics.

  • 8 bit graphic rules

There are very good remakes like Outrun 2006C2C or Ultimate Ghost'n Goblins, but about SF4... I've completed it in 15 minutes at hardest level, I prefer the old King of Fighters saga, with old graphic.

  • Wow, the arcade version of Super Hang-On is definitely way faster, and has better SFX, than the Megadrive version. Congrats on this race ! :

  • I still have this on mega drive, not played it for over a decade though.

  • what do you mean mega drive? what is that.

  • Mega Drive is the European name for the Genesis.

  • I'm we're gonna be pedantic (which I am) then technically the Genesis is the North American name for the Mega Drive (as it was known in the rest of the world, including Japan).

  • Then please send it my way! game is hard to find darnit!

  • Nooooooooooo way lol!!

    This game is too good.

Hopefully my Mega Drive still works. I have a Gae Gear too but it is broken with no sound and solid messed up vertical lines of color :(

I'll maybe start playing it again one day.

  • should have selected winning run to play in the background lol

  • were to download the rom? :o and the emulator i want to play it it brings back youth memories

  • Excellent.

  • slow down hahaha... nice job

    nice song too ;p

  • lol oh shit sometimes i be thinkin u gon crash lo its nerverackin some times lol just watchin lol GOOD JOB MAN!!

  • Have an super hang on game in great condition available, lots of fun!

  • i remember these days playing this game

  • I loved this game and the music ¡¡¡

  • Nicely done!

I have a 2'59" video of myself somewhere...

  • You can get a full working used Dreamcast on ebay for some bucks.

(Super) Hang On also works fine on a emulation (use the Xbox 360 Controller on your pc) ..

  • do u know how to install your 360 pad onto your pc?? im struggling, please help

  • use the cable variant, the difference between the pc and xbox version is only the driver cd.

if you use vista the drivers are included, for xp you have to download them (use google to search).

    thats it ...

  • classic

  • BIRD BIRD!

  • I used to play this on my Amiga. I'm supprised to see how close the graphics of the Amiga version was to the arcade version.

  • I always wanted to play that game on a genesis but never had one.

Did you know that you can play this game in the arcade in the dreamcast game ShenMue?

  • yes! and you can play space harrier too, and in shenmue II there's outrun also

  • You could play Hang-on, not Super Hang-on. I wish I still had my Dreamcast. I sort of miss the QTE game at that arcade.

  • Wow you're good! Usually i'd be lucky to get far beyond the first check point before crashing or running out of time.

  • this guys got the skills

  • Very high-quality video and sensational riding. Never realized how fast action in this game happens. If ever there was a racing series that could use a 21st century makeover like the OutRun 2 games, hands-down, it's the Hang-On series. Until a true Hang-On style classic is reborn (unless you count the Hang-On Grand Prix game for the Sega Saturn, which is another YouTube video), it's best to enjoy classics like this.

  • The Mega Drive/Genesis version was absolutely AWFUL. The Arcade version rules.

BTW the little-known Sharp X68000 computer in Japan got a VERY good, smooth-running port of the arcade that put the MD/Gen version to shame.

  • somehow i remember this game running a bit slower on my mega drive....

    well done!

  • Mega Drive was a piece of crap compared to the Arcade. That's why people went to the arcade. :D lol

  • One of the absolute best games of the arcade days.

  • amazing game, still got the original

  • lol i still play it i downloaded a megadrive emulator with 3000 games and the file was only about 2 gigabytes try and search some torrent sites and you will find it its well worth the download

  • Man.... I would love to play this again!! Reminds me of the arcade room days!!

  • Man.... Good Times :)

  • The best thing about this game was not the races but the rewards of manager or technician or whatever it was and upgrading your bike.

  • I loved this game!

  • i remember when i broke my ankle playing "soccer" and i was crippled for several weeks and i was playing this game while in my bed...fucking pwnage game.

  • I got this version and the harder "sitdown" version. This one is way easier.

  • Man, I was JUST listening to this song. F'ing old school.

  • hell yeah thats how you play this shit.

  • video game crack!

  • So pissed off I can't get this to work on Mame. Don't want to have to settle with the Mega Drive version. Can anyone help?

  • MAME32 works with this.

  • Wow this is much smoother than the Genesis version. The music sounds better too! I like both, but this one looks better.

  • What a game Never got far though. Play It on my phone using picodrive. "Winning Run" tune Is best. I love what sega did to the arcades made them F'in great.

  • just like me.i play on my n73,it's much better with the save state function

  • I always needed a new muffler! EVERY TIME!! lol

    Love this game

  • haha!

  • Dude, you're a true Sega Ninja. You've past the test. I used to beat this shit all day every day on Ninja mode when I skipped school back in the late 80s. No hacks or cheats either. Just hours upon hours of making money on wins to buy the parts.

  • I love those signs on the side of the road that show a toucan and read "BIRD BIRD."

I crashed into em often just to see em' clearly and not as a blur.

  • The sound effects are better in this version than in Genesis version. Great game, but a hard one...

Os efeitos sonoros sao melhores nesta versao em relacao aos da versao da Mega Drive. Um bom jogo, contudo eh dificil...

  • Nice drivin´!

  • Is it me or did the graphics in the original Hang-On look better?

  • I luv this song, you're pretty good too.

  • O cara é fera hein

  • Brings back childhood memories... Love This Game! Still play it to this day!

  • Damn, good job. I never could get this game.

  • very beautiful run i might add. you've definately played this ALOT. and omg if this is the beginner course then i can only imagine how horrific the harder courses are near the end of them @_@

  • ya, the game would seem to be alot more fun/easier to control with an analog controller, rather than the damn Genesis D-pad

  • Beautiful music, great memories...

  • This is the mini ride-on version, which is easier.

  • Nicely done. You risked your ass bad a pair of times, but you would have completed the stage even if you fell. However this is a still fun game.

    >i want super let-go

    LOL

  • Did anyone else hate how long the codes were for the adventure mode thing =p

  • yep but the original mode was the best.

  • i love the name title, i want super let-go

  • No way on earth was the game ever that fast. Sure the bike speed would be that fast, but the handling was never like that. I smell a cheat!

  • Yo, you are thinking of them Genesis version of super hang on with the sluggish bike controls, the arcade version(what you just watched here) had very quick responses.

Also, the arcade did not have an original mode like the Genesis did, so no mufflers are needed.

  • I have to make a confession abot this game I used to almost always keep my thumb down on the accelerator XD now thats crazy riding

  • THIS GAME IS JUST PERFECT , BEATS MOST OF ACTUAL GAMES , ohhhhhhh how i remember those days i played this , and had the B button mark on my finger XD ahahhahahahaha

  • Brilliant game, and awesome riding... I think I know how this is done - you've gotten a really souped up bike in Original mode, then input a password to transfer it over to Arcade mode (Which is a game function, it isnt in any way a cheat)? I noticed some of those turns you didn't skid very much, suggesting some high-quality wheels and such. ;)

  • Duh, just play the game ... I'm almost 99.8% sure that no passwords are used here (if the way you described even works, considering there is no story mode in the arcade version). I've tried to beat Stig's record here myself a few times and got close to a bonus time of 12.5 seconds in the end, with a few minor screw-ups in the run. Therefore this run is fully legit and shows some really great skills.

  • Well you've obviously not played this game very much, if at ALL... the technique I described works perfectly well, and you would probably know that if you spoke about things you KNEW about. Please think next time before you say something stupid.

  • DUH, this is the arcade version, not the home version, which doesn't even have an original mode. So please get a clue before you start name-calling. Thank you.
