I bowled at Edison Lanes up until the last days...I even worked there. The last year it was around the Sunrisers Drum & Bugle Corps practiced there (1986).
@curlballn Actually, I wasn't trying to defend Holman. I was trying to point out what a dumb f*ck YOU are, but you are too ignorant to figure that out.
Do you have Marshall Holman from the 1988 Bowlers Journal Florida Open? That's when he shot a score of 1032 for four games. If you don't like to see Marshall get upset from losing, watch his antics from that day.
where did you get HBO coverage ...a friend of mine made the top five when it was covered by HBO...His name is Gary Fust and he bowled Barry Asher...Conneticut Les Zykes was on the show I'd lve to get it
Do you have more footage of the 70's Roth , Holman? ...this is an incredible find. Do you have the Berardi match? Any great players that made it great....I know Roth lead the World Open at age 21 ...
Very interesting! In this video, he really grabs the ball like a suitcase throughout his swing - looks really strange. In two years, the '76 Firestone, he had a much better swing - cupping the wrist a lot more, swinging the ball out more and with much better roll. LOL, at the end of the segment the HBO commentator said "What a fine gentleman!" Little did they know he would soon become the John McEnroe of the PBA.
Back then, HBO still referred to themselves by the company's full name, Home Box Office.
HBO had only started up in October of 1972, so this may have been one of the very earliest (or even the first) bowling event they ever covered.

Amazing that the prize fund was only $50,000. Holman received only $2,400 for 3rd place!

Heck, I would've been more than happy to win $2,400 in 1974.
