This is one of the few instances where I feel watching a movie and reading the book will render a very similar impact on the reader. This is actually probably one of the best book adaptations I have ever seen. Jhumpa Lahiri wrote a great novel, and Mira Nair directed a great movie.
hands down one of the best movies ever adapted from a novel, Jhumpa Lahiri is a genius as is Mira Nair, combined with Tabu, Irfan khan and Kall Penn, there is absolutely no room for failure especially with the aid of Nitin Sawnhey. more movies should be made like this.
"How many rules have I broken none and each my own". I don't know the nameof the song but those were some of the lyrics and It is one of the most beautiful songs that I have heard it make me cry and when ever I want to comfort myself I sing this song I love it.

This movie touch my heart, I love all of Mira Niar's films. I never liked my name when I was young, only until I matured later in life realizing what my name ment to my Mother the moment she name me, I grew to love my name and I love my mom for it..
one of my favorite movies. I could really relate to it as I am Indian and my parents came over from India. It really made me think of them and the sacrifices they made for my sister and I to have a better life. I"m reading the book now. I highly recommend this movie to everyone.
i fell i love with this movie and the sound track is amazing i love it...... does any one know the singers name? she is amazing and i would to hear music by her......peace, and love.
i have this movie it is very good i'm not from india but i have studyed enough i'm still learning this movie makes me have a strong feeling about moving to india i really want to move will anyone get me a ticket? i'm joking but i am desprite to go to india. I REALLY LOVE INDIA
This is definitely one of the best films I've ever watched, the acting was incredible, especially Kal Penn, I had no idea he could pull of such a role. He played Gogol perfectly. I'm Indian, and I think I have a ridiculous name, I related to this film deeply. The soundtrack is simply spellbinding. Especially at the opening of the film when Gogol's mom and dad first met. I think no matter what race you are you will be deeply moved by this film.
kal pen AKA Kumar had a great proformance in this movie! of course he was smoking pot too :) i'm not indian or Bangolie but he is the love of my LIFE!!
Not only a beautiful, moving film, but gorgeous soundtrack!
I must say, I was so fascinated with Tabu's performance of the song in the beginning of the movie that I replayed it many, many times before continuing to view the rest of the film.
This is one of the most moving and capturing cinematic experiences I have ever fallen into. Watch the movie, if you are black, white, yellow, brown, mixed, born here, born there, born period, it has something for you, be patient throughout, take it in, you will find you are all the wiser for having seen this movie. I only ask that you begin with an open mind thank you

Can I ask though;
SPOILERS
when the moms went back to India, wouldn't she be a widow, and isn't that bad in India?
repHC 2 years ago
Why it should be bad? what do u mean? It's not something that u can choose to be or not!
nigrra2 2 years ago 2
why would it be "bad"? In what sense?
goripyaar 2 years ago 2
Mate, Indian society has improved a lot since what has been depicted in the western media. Its just a fact of life. To answer you, NO. Cheers.
The days of frowning upon widows is gone. And thats sensible. Cheers
