  • Whats the point keeping sick fucks alive? I am all for death penalty. Im not saying that we need to use it on everybod. But there are so many sick people out there and we have to pay that they are fed in prison. For example in Germany there was this rapist and he was sent to prison 15 years later he is free and then he chups of a little girl with an axe....Didnt he have a chance already when he was released after 15 years?

  • Ya I'm so glad that 1,000s of dollars of my tax money is being used to feed these scumbags that commit murders...fuck that if someone is 100% guilty they should pay the appropriate price and if they took a family's loved one away then they should be put to death themselves!!!

  • @UnderworldInferno At the moment, the death penalty is more expensive than life without parole. This is because of the extremely long and complex judicial process that it takes to make sure someone is not innocent and can be put to death. It's surprising but true.

  • I can't help to think about the Holocaust. "No point in keeping them alive...workcamps...we'll help them if we kill them." I know you kill every argument if you use an Hitler-parable but this is seriously scary to listen to.

A life should never be viewed as a mean to achive something, so that if it's not productive we can kill it. A life is always an end and therefore we should get to great means to keep people alive.

  • Our prisons are overcrowded as it is,so why not get rid of those who are guilty of murder and being a pedophile? Would make more room for those who shouldn't be in society anyway and send a message to those who are guilty..

  • @mrgb46

just because some ppl were found guilty, it doesn't mean they were actually guilty. there a list of ppl who were wrongfully executed...so it sends out a message like 'be more careful with your crimes' rather than 'dont commit crimes'

  • @rrpauldoran Some people who are innocent deserve to live. Who are you to say who deserves what? Your statement is fallacious and presumptuous on so many levels. Humans don't have the authority to pass that kind of judgement.

  • Btw Bill supporsts the evil Peta watch the bullshitt episode of it ;)

  • Penn and Teller is my hero atleast they are against it :D I don't want innocent people to get executed and yes it has happend :O

  • oh my.. is Bill doing a bit here? ugh.........

  • oh fuck, I thought Bill was perfect until I saw this video. I guess that makes one difference between me and him. Fuck death penalty. but It's ok Bill, I still like you. Though I'm kinda disappointed lol

  • as regards gun control, america has by far the highest rate of injury and death due to gun violence anywhere in the western world. do you think this is because americans are more homicidal by nature or because they have more guns? seems obvious to me.

  • @lordscully "America?" I assume you mean the US? Regarding injury or death when a crime is commited, per capita, the US is definitely not the highest. It is estimated that close to 3,000 people died in the attacks on 9/11 and not one firearm was used. The shootings at Columbine happened only because the bombs planted in the school did not detonate and the boys ran back inside to kill as many people as they could. In fact, even serial killers rarely use firearms to kill their victims.

  • I'm depressed I guess I can kill you all.

  • I am against all forms of punishment. Locking people up until they are educated and mentally treated to no longer be a danger to society is fine.

Danger meaning physical danger that is.

  • I don't like the death penalty at all...it think it's a horrible thing to do. I disagree with Bill on this one.

  • @Wallflower671 Same, and I almost always agree with him lol

  • @JXJ1326 So I guess that means we should do the easy, convenient thing and just kill a bunch of people.

    Gee, what was I thinking.

  • A person who murders(serial killers), rapes ( rapes adults or children), etc, are clearly doing so because of serious physiological and/or psychological problems. Instead of just killing them we should be finding out what is wrong with them and trying to fix the problem.

  • Bill calls himself a Libertarian yet he wants the government to have the power to ends someone's life, bit inconsistent.

  • The death penalty shows NO LINK to reduced crime rates. It's a barbaric medieval practice that's ridiculous in 21st century democracy.

  • @theyforcedmetosignup

This barbaric practice have been supported by "mediaval" philosophers such as John Locke, Immanuel Kant,John Stewart Mill. Moreover,I don't see how capital punishment is at odd with democracy since most americans support it.

  • fuck the death penalty Bill.

  • prison is divided into units/levels. level 1 are for crimes that wern't endangering like assault, stealing. they are given much more 'priveladges' than level 5. level 5 are for murderers, multiple battery offense etc. level 5 has so much security and less priveledges. level 6 is 23hr in a 8x10(around that size) cell by your self. thes are for people who comitted crimes while in jail. you get 1hr to excersice outside. no t.v. . no radio. nothing but your brain and maybe a book.

  • a woman drowns her children and the braindead feminists blame her husband. That's the true face of feminism, women are innocent whatever they do, men are responsible for everything women do. Well allow me to say FUCK OFF CUNTS!

  • Three 'Merican women speaking with three 'Merican accents, man I love it. I could listen to them all day.

  • Concealed weapon laws are stupid.

  • Bill is for the death penalty!? I'm shocked I always thought he was a dude! shit!

  • Serial killer and spree killers kill for impulses that are not fare from depression. Some are narcissistic, some are melancholic, some have short tempers, some have anxiety, and some have a great deal of spite.

Of course I do not believe in the death penalty.

I also do not think that the mental hospital not as kind as it reputation, as you are going to spend just about as much time in there if your did not plead insanity. They also do extensive reprogramming and re-educated.

  • ok if we think like that why dont we kill all people with a disability.... just because someone thinks the life is not worth it anymore....nazis would like this

maybe i dont like bill anymore!

  • @damnitw Exactly. I didn't know he was pro penalty. I was shocked when I heard that. I confess that I wouldn't want the best for a person who drown her own kids but I definitely don't think that killing her is something that has to be done. Like life sentence isn't enough? There has to be killing? doing the exact same thing you're punishing them for? wow maybe I don't like bill now, too.

  • @christina170

i'm pro death penalty but in rare-cases. i rather some one be put in jail for life with no priveledges. but there are some circumstance where everybody would be better and safer to have them killed. for example. if laden/hussein were alive and we had them in jail for life, don't you think their follower's would retaliate and try to get them out through violent force?

  • @arsenalskate123 I'm against death penalty in general. I believe followers of laden/hussein will do horrible things either they live or die. You think that they weren't angry when they died? Criminals won't be discouraged because of death penalty and it won't prevent them from striking again. Especially people who follow them, think of them as heroes when they've been killed.

  • @christina170

i agree that people will do crazy shit. but if u look at prisoners, they still can communicate with people from the outside and carry on attacks. it will be best to execute people like bin laden and murderers. if they're still alive and in prison, they find ways to carry on atttacks by bribes or threats . if u kill them atleast the attacks won't be well planned if they carry on to retaliate

  • @arsenalskate123 rather than killing a prisoner so that they don't carry on attacks, why don't we just stop them from communicating with people from the outside? if we can keep someone inside a prison, we can sure keep people out of a prison. no mail services. no communication, therefore no bribes or threats, no attacks. your justification for killing prisoners has no basis.

  • what's so wrong about death penalty if proven without shadow of a doubt a person has taken life of another.

  • @caesarbitch because you're doing the exact same thing you're punishing them for...

  • 2 all those ppl who r against the death penalty hw about building a prison where they throw the worst offenders in and they have 2 fend 4 themselfs.at least theyll have more of a chance than their victims had.nah fuck dat just kill them the same way they killed their victims.NOW THATS JUSTICE

  • @ZEDW1 I do think there are people who don't deserve to live, but that doesn't give us the right to kill them.

  • Wow. You people need to calm down, you act like supporting the death penalty is a taboo.

  • "you are an idiot if you go out get a gun and don't learn how to use it safely."

Well that explains why the American government is putting a lot more money into your army and not very much money going into your education system.

  • Even the liberals in america advocate death, shit you're fucked up as a nation.

  • Who said all life is sacred? Don't start that bible thumping shit.

  • What the fuck! Bill is for the death penalty? What's the matte with him?

  • @jerryhello100

There is more than 6.8 BILLION people on this little mud ball we call Earth. Do you really believe that every single Inconsiderate, Immature murdering SOB deserves to live despite what they have done and that putting him in prison with your tax dollars where he will probably get killed by one of the other inmates anyway is better?

  • @ZEDW1 I don't think that human beings should be able to decide when to extinguish another's life. That's for chance, or fate, or, if you like the word, god.

  • @ZEDW1 You do realize all of the appeals processes and legal proceedings involved with execution cost more to the American taxpayer than lifetime incarceration.

  • @RebelWrestler45

    No I did not know that $10,000 +$10,000 was cheaper than $10,000 + $1,000

  • @ZEDW1 You obviously have done no research; carrying out one death sentence (including extended incarceration costs, on top of legal costs) costs 2-5 times more than keeping that same criminal in prison for the rest of his life; this of course varies from state to state.

  • @RebelWrestler45

Now did you know the American prisons have such a big problem with over crowding that some of them have resorted to housing their inmates in tents?

and that released the peaceful potheads and killing of the violent re offenders because 1 it frees up space in prisons and 2 it removes an undesirable human trite from our gene pool.

  • @ZEDW1 Only 46 people were executed in 2010; capital punishment does nothing whatsoever to free up prison space. In addition, executing an inmate will do no more to stop procreation of criminal undesirables than lifetime incarceration will. The one and only valid argument to allow executions, is that the punishment of execution serves justice to the fullest extent, as it is the punishment most befitting the crime committed; for all practical reasons, capital punishment should not be in place.

  • @RebelWrestler45

It is apparent that you are unaware of exactly how effective a few heads on pikes in the middle of town or a few thieves and murders strung up by their intestines would be.

  • @ZEDW1 Is this your attempt at a coherent argument for the death penalty, in the context of modern society? It has been reinforced by several studies that the death penalty is no deterrent to crime.

  • @RebelWrestler45

Yes and of course it isn't a very good deterrent if people don't get to see punishment being carried out or see the aftermath.

The whole idea of it being a deterrent relys on a lot of people seeing what happens when you break certain laws.

  • Thumbs up if the voice of the blonde threw you off garde!

  • @07saalhol i am waiting for her to bust out into Ding dong the witch is dead.

  • Ok, I've lost respect for this program now they've had a Muppet on the show.

  • All human life is sacred, and it is not for us to judge who should live or die.

If what I just said isn't true, then why not kill ANYONE who we think has a worthless life? Why can't I kill the really mean kid who will be a loser all his life? Isn't HIS life worthless?

However, I am for the death penalty only if it is the only way to stop someone from murdering another person. In that case we are not murdering them, we are just stopping them from murdering someone else. In this case, idk.

  • "Its better that 10 guilty men go free than 1 innocent man goes to prison".......death penalty is often given to people who are innocent and are incarcerated......the solution is some form of rehabilitation not death penalty......people should work more towards research on why people do these things rather than kill them....

  • To me, if you are convicted of disrespecting the basic liberties of another person (right to life, right to sexual freedom i.e. murder & rape) then you thereby sacrifice your own basic liberties. But I don't think they should be hung or shot, I think they should be used to test medicines on. Maybe use them in stunt scenes too...(Bill Hicks fans know what I'm talking about!)

  • I like how the woman for guns and the 2nd Amendment is from Texas.

  • the death penalty in inhuman

  • didnt manson escape like twice, just kill these people.

  • @energeez No, he didn't. But I do agree there should be a death penalty. But then again, I live in a country where the maximum sentence is 40 years in prison, and some killers get only 10 years. So I applaud America for having the death penalty.

  • This episode summs up many things I'll never understand in America.

  • I agree with Bil on 90% of the issues but on this one.... fuck you Bill, seriously. What if I decide your life isn't worth it? Can I then kill you? No, obviously not.

The whole point is that people shouldn't decide if people live or die, and if you can't see that then WOW man.

  • Ok, I find it slightly sickening how gleefully Americans are always hoping prison rape on people.

  • "on second thought KILL 'ER!!! *silence* hahahh

  • Liberals completely and utterly FAIL in the area of the death penalty.

It is completely fine, and some people who commit such atrocious acts deserve to die.

I am fine with Abortion too.

Really thats the way it should be, if you are okay with abortion, you should be fine with the death penalty, euthenasia, etc, too.

  • @rrpauldoran I actually agree that if they can't fit in with society, why waste the space?

  • @rrpauldoran

the death penalty is discriminatory. a black person is 4 times more likely than a white person to get the death penalty for the same crime. same way, a poor person is 7 times more likely to get it than a rich person. Plus even if u convict someone that could be innocent and then execute them, new evidence may come out showing they were innocent. Its irreversible. Casey Anthony may have been 99% guilty, but if she was executed then we would never know the full truth, theres still 1%!

  • @rrpauldoran

plus euthanasia and abortion are choices by and individual. the death penalty is not the individuals choice but the choice of the state based on a case. u cant compare abortion to the death penalty.

  • bill maher is an idiot in this video

  • The Second amendment was made right after a war because there was a chance of an attack. What is the reason for its existence now?

  • First time I feel ashamed of great Bill Maher

  • im not for killing a mentlelly insance women im sorry i think bill maher is being a dick. if she was in a frame of mind that wasnt really her and her health issue made her do it then lock her up for the rest of her life or for 20-40 years (what people should get for manslughter). im not saying lets let people off if there angry but if theres a legit mentle health issue then we should at least save the womens life

  • It's not for Bill to judge weather or not someone's life has meaning.

  • The death penalty is not necessary. If the person is locked up the rest of his life, he won't be able to kill anyone else. So WHY exactly do we have to kill them? The only reason is revenge. It is an emotional response, and emotions, especially in law, are usually irrational. Laws need to be logical, and the fact is, it's logical to keep the person in prison. It costs less. Humans are faulty and make mistakes. The government should never have the power to kill its own citizens.

  • i lived five miles away from where these murders took place

  • Perhaps I've been taking philosophy to long, but the question isn't what is her life worth now rather if capital punishment ethical.

  • Any person who has murdered a child or baby deserves to have a miserable life.

  • thanks for the upload!!

  • btw, love how she mentions "what about the husband" ugh. Does someone have an anvil I can drop on her head? Yes, that's right let's just forget about this killer of 5 young kids and talk about how the husband is at fault for HER actions!

    What an ASSHOLE she is!

  • The actress with the hideous style who so staunchly defends that mass murderer of young children reeeeally sickens me. I wonder if she'd be so for a man who murdered small childern to get away because he was depressed. Please, what a douche. oH YES, you don't know what it's like to have children, therefore if you did you would know in your heart it's ok to justify killing them.

btw, did she get the death penalty? Why do I think that she didn't for some "reason"? hmmm...

  • I believe that the death penalty is neccasary upon certain situations. In most cases, mass murderers and cereal killers. Pretty much the people who have no hope what so ever at redemption to what they do, which is commit murder. Sometimes there are people who commit murder in self defense. Again, it really depends on the situation. People would argue, "say no to death and yes to life" What about the victim's families? The ones who lost their child's lives in the hands of corrupted minds.

  • @ClosterphobiA

    1) Watch "A Short Film About Killing"

    2) I found "cereal killers" pretty funny. Sorry.

  • Man, Jennifer O'Neill. Love her. Summer of '42 is a great film.

  • death penalty is the easy way out isnt it

  • I am against death penalty, but i do understand Bill Maher's point of view.

  • Omg Bill is for the death penalty??

    shit!

  • Yes, I'm shocked too. I just watched "I'm Swiss", his live stand-up comedy DVD, and he said he was pro-death penalty. Can't believe it.

Every single one of my heroes has something that I don't like. But we're not all perfect.

  • @gallimuku well the thing about that is either someone is in jail for the rest of his or her life and youre taxes are giving them a pretty decent life or they're killed. im not exactly for either of them but i think that's why he chose death penalty

  • Any idee how much money the pre death penalty trials costs the tax payers?

Death penalty has no (prooved) upsides.

  • @gallimuku i never said i was for it nor did i say it was better. i was just stating the common reason people choose that over jail for life

  • oh ok maybe,

  • @gallimuku

Bill is pro death penalty? o.O

    shit!

  • 4:00 was a might NWO statement if you ask me...

  • Murderer's and rapists in jail. No tv, internet, good food, take it all away. A cell and four walls. What's with the free college degrees in jail? I don't get one.

  • I personally believe in rehabilitation. These people aren't going to be in jail for life most times. Why would you send someone back into society to do something even worse cuz they weren't taken care of? The laws are very tricky. You wouldn't be saying this if you found yourself in a situation that landed you behind bars. If u hit someone at a stop sign and got time for involuntary manslaughter your views would change. U never know so don't judge so harshly.

  • @mand1sh3p rehabilitation ? Ok you are walk along the street and see the killer of your family walking along free and happy because he is "rehabilitated" , what would you do ?

    I would kill him/her.

  • @lynkshadow Yeah of course they get all of those things. Have you been prison and witnessed this?......No oh i thought so

  • @lynkshadow Here in the UK, in prison you can have sky tv(not sure what US calls it... but like over 100 channels), tv, dvds, games consoles for less than $1 a week per item, thats like 50p in our money, they also have a choice at xmas! chicken turkey or duck, i know it sounds silly but its true! also "Open Prisons" is so crazy "be back by 7 or you go to jail..." the UK's prisons are a joke. The homeless where im from commit crimes during winter to be taken care of.

  • @lynkshadow its called rehabilitation you ignorant imbecile. not everyone in prison is a murderer. if we actually rehabilitate people then they won't just go back to prison; they may even become contributing members of our society. people like you would rather see them just commit the same crimes again and go back to jail so ur taxes can pay for their expenses.

  • So many people don't understand the principle behind the insanity defense. Being insane is NOT a legal defense unless you can prove the defendant did NOT KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG. This is used to defend your basic "simple" person. Being angry or depressed doesn't count.

  • except that there is legal precedent that anger aka rage and depression do count.

  • Depending on the laws of the state, your emotional state may factor in to your sentence or the exact charge- for example the difference between "Murder" and "Manslaughter" in my state. But in order for insanity to work as a legal defense, you have to prove to the court you didn't know what you did was wrong. I don't know what legal precedent you're talking about specifically- maybe you could tell me.

  • which is exactly what i'm saying that in different states you have cases where ppl have been charged with murder and found not guilty because they have convinced enough of the jury that rage or depression meant it wasn't a premeditated act and the prosecuter's can't re prosecute for manslaughter because of double jepordy.

  • Yes, but that doesn't mean it's the "insanity defense". It's jury nullification.

  • it parades as the insanity defense.

  • Is that tiny blonde huffing helium during the commercials or something?

  • Clearly this woman was ill and what she did was insane. You do not kill sick people that would make you a murderer. I really am surprised that Maher's has this view, I really respected him until now!

The death penalty should be a crime, murder is murder no matter who does the deed. Except in self defence!

  • Bologna jules1...

"Murder is Murder?" I'm not going to pay, though taxes, to sustain someone who holds absoutely NO value to society. At some point of malignance, your life becomes worthless.

  • Here we go again same old response, that reply is whats wrong with the world putting money before life. I do not know why I feel compelled to answer such an ignorance response and what value do you bring to society, judging by your reply to me not very much.

  • How about we set up exile islands again, eh? We don't have to pay for them that way, just set 'em up with a hatchet and flint, some clothes, whatever.

Heh. The problem here is both positions fail in one way or another.

Capital punishment IS often punishing murder with murder, take it how you will.

However, incarceration is helping to ruin our society in a few distinct ways as well.

So, exile 'em! Stick a big ole' cruiser off the island, and just sit back and let 'em do their thing.

    Nix ~

  • Yet again the first thought is for the cost putting money above life. In my opinion and that is only what it is, if humanitity was at the fore front of our world and not greed and profit and maybe just maybe prisons would not be needed.

  • I certainly can't argue with that. I guess it really is a battle of pragmatism vs values.

If we all work to change the world, things will be much better... Unfortunately the folks with all said money are the greedy ones, and with the power they wield it's more or less a moot point.

Oh well, maybe we'll get to see corporate and government criminals tried sometime soon. Wouldn't that be nice?

Nix ~ In the name of justice for the rich, too!

  • Yes it would, they should not forget what goes around, comes around!

  • I like the way you think.

    Nixon '12... Wait-a-second...

  • Nice. Back at ya.

Nix ~ would not have voted for Nixon. But.. Zombie Nixon? Hmm.

  • Id support the death penalty more, specifically lethal injection, more if they change the way it's administered. Instead of what they do now, which they suspect dosent always go as planned, causing extreme pain and torture while the condemned person is paralyzed and can't move, id support something along the lines of a massive dose of powerful opiates or barbiturates to kill the person in a more humane way.

  • Many people have trouble understanding the meaning of the 2nd Amendment... Try looking at it this way:

"A well educated Electorate, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and read Books, shall not be infringed."

It is clear: The People (not the Electorate) have the right to "keep and read Books" - just as in the 2nd Amendment, it's the People, not the Militia that has the right to "keep and bear Arms"

  • I blame the antidepressants, not "depression."

  • Jennifer Hupp, five stars

  • I disagree with the installation of Death penalty in law.

    1) murders still exist. Installing a death penalty into the system will not wipe the act of murder from existence.

    2) it's expensive as hell just to even SEEK a death penalty for a criminal. it's much less expensive for a life sentence.

    3) mental illness is a CHEMICAL imbalance in the brain. it affects your rationality. no normal mother would murder her children.

    4) innocent people are put on death row all the time.

  • 1) Hang them in the town square, not in the back room of a prison.

    2) That's the fault of the legal system; with modern forensics it should be much faster and cheaper.

    3) Mother, Gangbanger, two different cases.

    4) Modern forensics should solve that problem as well.

  • If her brain is malfunctioning is she responsible?

    no.

It's a sad fact we lack the medical technology to fix mental illness yet, or make gorge bush smarter

  • sounds hitler-ish

  • "Let's kill the right people!" YES!!!

  • How about rubber bullets. They dont kill poeople but you can protect yourself with them.

  • not if they have real bullets lol

  • Rubber bullets can still kill

  • No it's all about stunning for me. That's what the police should use.

  • A gaping hole in the chest would stun a criminal.

  • You ever hit a bear with a stick? It only pisses him off more.

  • Rubber bullets take your ass down. A stick? Not so much...

  • Rubber Bullets just piss you ass off.

  • Who's that little person with the high voice?

  • (late answer, but--) Kristen Chenoweth

  • west wing, awesome show

  • I remember this scandel, it was the news topic right before the 9-11 attacks.

  • How can a government tell its citizens not to kill but at the same time the government is doing the exact opposite? I agree on lots of the thing Maher is saying but I don't agree with him on death penalty. What is it that the Americans love to exicute their criminals? Capital punishment doesn't prevent crimes and it's an irrational way to practice justice.

  • and besides, it´s immoral when we know people are being wrongfully found guilty of crimes they didnt do. With a life sentence they atleast have a shot of new evidence turning up. A lot of people have been let loose from death row thanks to new dna technics, just lucky, think of all those executed innocent peoples, that should put every thinking man of being pro execution.

  • @JoonasFinland how can a government tell its citizens not to kidnap people or steal from them and at the same time throw people into prisons or fine them? your argument doesnt make any sense. theres a huge difference between executing a found guilty murderer and being a murderer yourself.

  • @ToiToiToiHerrKaleun If a government decides to kill a person it is also directly responsible for taking a life of an innocent person. Have I seen a judgement system that is 100 percent flawless? No. Would I want a flawed system to decide about whether a person should live or die. Absolutely not.

  • @JoonasFinland but isn't it kind of a waste of time and money keeping criminals who will never be rehabillitated alive?

  • @EnergizerBunny804 There is always a possibility that the system is sending a wrong person to death. How is the system going to fix those mistakes if and when they happen? U.S., China and other countries are proven having been executing innocent people even during recent decades. And besides, I would never measure someones life in money anyway. Not even when a person happens to be a criminal. Would you? You know, the executions are being paid by you and other tax payers.

  • @JoonasFinland I suppose it is to easy to send innocents to prison, assume you needed stronger evidence to give somebody the death penalty, such as a video or admission

  • @JoonasFinland and bill does make a good point, why just warehouse somebody for their whole life, there isn't a point

  • @JoonasFinland You can go ahead & pay for the needs of a prisoner; I'll stick with the death penalty.

  • @JoonasFinland Nowhere does the government tell its citizens not to kill; they tell them not to commit murder. Only an intellectually deficient individual would draw equivalency between the execution of a criminal, with the acts of murder committed by said criminal. The criminal justice system isn't just about crime prevention, it is about the delegation of appropriate methods of punishment, relative to infractions committed; justice.
