  • Hi Maloy7800,

    To answer your question: The Propeller propels the ship.  Sounds simple but not really. The computer assisted design of propellers today has reached a stage that the most minute change in design can affect it's efficiency. Damage to a propeller blade can cost the operator of the vessel in lost time and increased fuel. You could equate marine growth and it's accumulation on the blade surfaces to mechanical damage that will, over time, significantly degrade performance. :-)

  • I don't want to sound like a complete noob but I have to. WHY are the propellers cleaned? A huge ship, 6m props. What difference does it make?
