I see creation, life coming into existence from the once lifeless and hopeless void. We are alive NOW. We are the miracle, the wonder, the presence of the divine in this world. If you live, hope lives. You hear...maybe I should have...over and over. It is a lamentation about the actions he SHOULD have taken in life...and the ones YOU can take NOW so you don't end up like him.

I listened by chance to this song from a radio station one day i summer 1996 on my way home and I strangely connected it with Atlanta Olympic Games which were about to start even though they have nothing i common. Probabbly because back then the Olympic Games were always on my mind.

I love this version. It's the one from the cassette single. I think I wore out the tape from playing this so much. I grew up hearing the Willie Nelson version and don't remember a version by elvis at all. The slow versions are a bit sad but this version feels so uplifting to me, like I just want to get up and dance with my arms swaying back and forth to the beat. I can't say enough about the PET SHOP BOYS' version (could it be the perfect pop song?). Thanks for the post !
