I think this is the OTHER long song title Ray Stevens' got.. I seem to remember a certain "Ned Nostril and His South-Seas Paradise, Put-Your-Blues-On-Ice, Cheap at Twice The Price Band."
This is perhaps the 2nd biggest novelty r&r song to hail out of the doowop era. The only hit single to surpass these green and purple pills is that Itsy Bitsy Tiny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, which I'm sure is ahead of all other novelty songs by long shot. There is something in that Bikini that is obviously lacking in those pills that Ray is singing about. Ray Stevens of coarse is better known for The Streik....& the fad that was soon to follow for the bold & courageous. Thx4 postin'
I used to have the 45 (single record) I was in Elementary school early 1970's. My uncle passed it down to me. My mom eventually listened to it and threw it away....darn!!!....just found it again!...Never thought I'd find it again! Thank God for You Tube!
Cool song - Peak of the prescription-drug-overdose craze. Yet, if we listen to current ads - i.e. - "Restless Leg Syndrome," etc. - Ray Stevens STILL has a point. That said - my fav song of all time - 5th grade.
This is the original, of the two videos avaliable on youtube. The audio is leaning on side of trble other than that it's better to try and enjoy the original...The updated version is lacking something and I for one take note and rather listen to this version, the original. It's another one of those novelty songs that joins the ranks of Charlie Drake, Larry Verne & Dodie Stevens & her Pink Shoe Laces. Thx4 postin'
The fact that the pill kills millions of people in America every year is kept hidden by the criminals in government. That it don't cure anything and only makes you feel good temporarily is not mentioned either. Visit website MayaBell. com. learn a lot more that your government and criminals in the media don't tell you.
WOW, I consider myself a 'dyed in the wool' Ray Stevens fan, but I'd NEVER heard this song. It's just TOO FUNNY in this pill induced society we live in now Thanks for the post Mandolin 1234
Indeed, this was Ray's initial national chart entry, coming on the Mercury label in the late summer of 1961. And it set the stage for many of his later fun-type songs.
I had never heard this song but had been trying for at least 25 years to find it. THANK YOU.....guess if a song doesn't hit the top 10, the rock stations won't play it...

rocknrollroy2007 3 years ago
I think that was Ray's first or one of the very first hits he had back in 1962. Only Ray could sing this song!! He is the BEST!!
