my take on the combine is that the advisors have been watching earth and waiting for the right time to strike, such as when the portal of XEN opened, humanity was weak so the advisors took there lead to begin there new "super race" as dr.breen states, imortality. which in my case must mean a super race :P. when the advisors attacked the took human's and modified them with advisor organs and such. thus combining human's with advisors, thats why there called "COMBINE"!
