His boat gets a lot of check... He has so much power but I still think his stroke could be smoother. I think if he fixed his knees more during the body swing his boat would go even faster.
@mrajsma01 It looks like his back is opening way too early and he is taking a lot on his back but that might be expected from such a top-heavy athlete. Definitely not the "prettiest" sculling out there. I've always rated Jüri Jaanson. Such a shame he never got an Olympic Gold.
@oneworldfamily My own favorite is biathlon, another sport combining elegance and power, but rowers, and particularly scullers, seem to me to be the ultimate athletes (in summer sports at least). And done by someone like Waddell, it is a beautiful spectacle.

Don't know much about rowing, but Waddell seems a great example of the combination of elegance and power that make sculling good for spectators.
