  • mrbluestrek1, it would be a D6/9 if the bass note would be D, here I guess it is G so... Jean Paul

  • shame we cannot see the right hand motion

  • @Iluvvegas09 Can't you hear it though? :\

  • can somebody give the fret numbers of last E7 (9?) chord please? thnx good video!

  • @mylozuud Eadgbe; x 7 8 7 7 7 is the one he used or you can play x x 9 11 9 10 or x x 12 13 12 14

  • excuse my bad english : )

  • Someone please explain to me how to create my own chord solos for other songs for exemple ?

  • TALK LESS DO MORE !!!

  • Hi ! the first chord that you 're playing is a D7/9 ! sorry !

    best regards !

  • @mrbluestrek1 haha you outed urself: it's A-6: C,F#, A, E (imagine an A in Bass: A-6)

  • @Iacorel lol its the jazz people man. "Noooo its a suspended chord with a flat 7th"

  • Great lesson Dennis. Thx

btw...do you happen to have a video with the accompanyment for that progression?

  • If you get just one DVD get Dennis "The Art of Accompaniment." I wondered why Dennis knows all these other guitatrists and it's probably because he's one of the finest rhythm player/teachers around.

To learn the basic melodies and chords to songs Robin Nolan's books are very good.

Younger players worry too much about being able to play fast and flashy. It will come in time. Learn to play rhythm and learn the melodies first and all the rest will fall into place.

  • 2:00 pinky looks broken or something deformed...

  • Why not show these chords on a chart? it would help me a lot.

Or can I find a place to see them?

  • @jaapberk when Denis calls out the numbers, like "12-10-12-12" for the Dmin6 chord he's giving you the fret numbers, from the one closest to you. i.e. 12th fret of the fourth string/10th fret of the 3rd string/12th fret of the 2nd string . . .etc. -- listen to those numbers and you don't need a chart

  • Beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing.

  • This is like Butterflies and Hurricanes chord progression

  • Thanks for posting this - concise, helpful, and easy to follow! a question though, does anyone know how Dennis is providing the beat at the end of the lesson where he plays through all the chords? Is that a drum track he looped into the video, a constant thumb slap or something else entirely? Thanks for helping!

  • django did this with 2 fingers... faaack

  • @horlacsd No, he could use his two damaged fingers to play certain chords.

  • dont use hthat word its our world stay out of our word

  • jo nagyo mert könnyebb igy leszedni a zenéket

  • nagyon jó mert igy könnebb leszedni a zenét

  • This is very interesting and helpful to Django fans, of which I am certainly one. My thanks to Mr. Chang for excellent instruction. Also, to the blogger below who asked about "A minor" you might go to the Internet, "Chord Finder" or "Chord Master." Many websites like these will give you diagrams of thousands of chords, including the less common jazz chords with diminished and augmented fifths. Good luck!

  • The movement of the finger and the flow of the code are beautiful.

  • Very cool, Denis! I want to order your DVDs soon. Thanks for all your work.

  • It's worth forking out for the (gitane)DG-500 - it's not that much more expensive and it's a very expressive guitar. Don't use sagas gypsy jazz strings though - they aren't very good. Get some argentines, and a good stiff pick - dugain or wegen for preference.

  • playing django music or gypsys music is not about fuc....g instrument many gypsy s like django and django too was playin at classical guitar folk but music is in our hearts not in expensive guitars and im so sorry for my bad english we gypsy play sometimes at guitar s cost 20 euro but we got feeling man :-)

  • agreed all in the hands and heart

  • @swingbazar Ive seen gypsy's play instruments made from old rubbish and it still was awesome.

  • i'm looking to buy a selmer style guitar, does anyone have any advice they could give me? right now i'm loking at the gitane 250, since its the cheapest and has some good reviews, but if anyone has any suggestions they would be MUCH appreciated. :)

  • @samuelshepard buy the shittiest playable guitar you can find. master it. after that anything remotely better will feel like a million dollars

  • @singana1 gah i got the lulo reinhardt model. its hard to play and i knew that before i bought it, which is why i bought it. same idea, just i spent more money ha.

  • It must be really frustrating for you to have to talk in terms of frets and notes interchangeably, I personally prefer talking in terms of notes/scale tones, but then again, I'm not a beast like you Mr. Chang.

    Good stuff you have here.

  • awsome! but all these comments an Amin and all. i dont uderstand it much. but i do some chords (basic) like G, D, F, F7, etc.

  • at 2:30 listening through for a second time I hear Amin6/9 , E9 , Bb9+ you refer to the last chord as a simple Bb7, although theoretically it's a Bb7#9 chord or 1-3-5-b7-#9 if the entire chord is sustained.

It's known as "stacking" thirds; because when you stack thirds together, a chord is created.

  • in the DVD, I explain why i call chords by their simplest names. the important thing is to be able to hear the sounds.. a pro musician will know what extensions to use...

  • Maybe it is just me, but did the Barred Bb7 chord following Amin at 2:31 come in late?

  • I would say it was strangely syncopated, but I wouldn't go so far as to judge whether I thought it was later or early. I think it's a stupid chord anyways. I don't see how Django's mangled fretting hand would have been able to do a stretch like that.

  • gypsies play that chord all the time, and django played did play that chord but without barring and minues one note

  • gypsies play that chord all the time, and django did play that chord but without barring and minues one note

  • great lesson, thanx for posting it. do you use all downstrokes with your right hand or alternate?

  • it depends on the accent i want to get, if i really want to accent certain beats, i will do a downstroke

  • does chords are to hard can u show me som oder easear

  • neat. thanks. question. Django often used that Bb7 chord? How, with only 2 fingers?

  • he was an genius, that the answer. thrust me he did it

  • He was able to use his damaged finger to play chords.

  • brilliant!!! thanks

  • I love you

  • I love you too.

  • I just discovered your videos today. They are by far the easiest lessons to follow I've found on YouTube. Thank you so much for putting them up. I've spent a couple of hours practicing these techniques and I can already see improvements.
