  • YEAH..IF CLIFF'S SO SLOPPY, THEN GO PLAY ''ANESTHESIA'' YOU FUCKS!!!!!

  • I'm not a musician at all, but if I should choose an instrument to play, I would play the bass just because of this.

  • RIP CLIFF

  • Add Trujillo to tags :3

  • I still think Cliff should've recorded the intro like in the '85 live version. :P

  • HOW DOES HE GET THAT GROWL 0:18?!?!?!?!

  • @GRigori0s10 A wah wah placed all the way in the up position and a big muff.

  • @cfredrics Well, it is not like that every time, that's why I asked about that specific time

  • @GRigori0s10 you can get it on acoustic

  • @gunnziboy Really! thanks!

  • @GRigori0s10 well i could atleast good luck :D

  • @GRigori0s10 its simply distortion bass, not overdrive, but distorted.

  • @bullshitproof I believe there is some wah to it as well.

  • @deadkennedymad nope, its just fret noise distorted by the distortion effect and a compressor.

  • @bullshitproof Ahah, thanks for clearing that up, he did use wah live though, as I'm sure you know.

  • @deadkennedymad yep ;)

  • @bullshitproof He is using a Wah pedal (not sure witch one), a big muff distortion box and some heavy reverb. That should make it sound like him (: He also uses some effects he has on his Aria bass. As example, the outro.

  • @TheBassoftheBeast He recorded Ride The Lightning with his rick. I don't think he recorded anything with his Aria, since he didn't have it at the time. Also - in the outro it's just another guitar track mixed in, since they couldn't find space for it. And he used a morley power boost wah pedal.

  • @nastyguard007 Ah, that would explain alot (:

  • @DaveinVein I miss Cliff too.

  • This song is easy to play but hard to master. Everything about the way Cliff played is beautiful. The scratching on the string, the timing, even all the little slapping he does makes this song one of a kind. Very few people capture the emotion Cliff.

  • 0:08 - 0:42 Is Your Favorite Part? Well Mine is all of it T_T

  • @harle321 its a Morley Bass Wah :)

  • 0:08 - 0:42 My favorite bass part ><

  • Anyone know what effects he's using?

  • @OverdriveSounds I'm using a boss metal distortion pedal and I'm getting a pretty close sound

  • @OverdriveSounds he used an electro harmonix big muff and a morley power wah

  • @OverdriveSounds lots of distortion and wah

  • No one plays that intro like Cliff.

  • Can anyone find the REAL version? Not the Guitar Hero version. please make that video if you please please please!!!

  • @AnaheimDucks1993 This is the real version friend. They just muted out the other instruments from GH

  • @AnaheimDucks1993 What do you mean? The songs in Guitar Hero are MASTER TRACKS! In other words - all instruments in a song have their own separated track.

  • Anyone have a near accurate tab of this on bass? I'm not that great at learning by ear and all these tabs totally fuck up this song

  • How did you separate the bass track? Please tell me, I need to learn how to do it

  • @johnthegreek178 You don't separate it.. Some albums were recorded all as separate instruments, then pieced together... You buy that version of the album and it's just like that

  • @johnthegreek178 Its from the GH MEtallica game.

  • Okay if we can get this bass track, then surely it's possible to get the one for the Call of Ktulu... right?

  • @WeAreTheSickness

Nop. Call of Ktulu wasn't on GH Metallica i think.

  • Ahhh. a morley power wah fuzz. sounds amazing.

  • easy ass bass song to learn but always awsome with or without guitar

  • bad ass slow bass!!!!!!!!!

  • always wondered what cliff sounded like..he was always too low in the mix! great upload, thanks.

  • is this just me or were the guitars out of tune in this song?

  • @ffuckusernames they were altered in pitch slightly to match the bell at the beginning

  • The harmonie is missing in the bass intro. Where did they put it ??

  • My cover of this is pretty bad ass. just sayin.

  • Cliff is one of the best, Steve Harris is the best.

  • @Maidenhead1996 lol at your username and your comment...I'd say cliff is a bit better...but their close IMO

  • bells are tolling for the 3 motherfuckers who disliked this

  • Cliff has to destroy three motherfuckers with a bass

  • @FinlandMetallica make them 5 :)

  • Cliff Burton, one of the top 5 metal bassists of all time.

  • @Toony678 ur sloppy ...

  • @SirotiKurton

No cliff is, not that it matters because he wrote some of the heaviest songs in metal history that alone makes him a god.

  • @Toony678 Yeah, ur sloppy

  • @Toony678 Yes, he is somewhat sloppy, but nobody before him played bass like this. It was very innovative. Before Cliff nobody played the bass that fast with guitar effects pedals and used the bass as a lead instrument rather than just low end support and time keep.

  • @jthoeflich10

Hm, Guess you've never heard of Steve Harris.

  • @Toony678 Really? Since when did Steve Harris use a distorted tone with a wah?

  • @sepultallifly

Distortion and wah isn't fucking impressive....Cliff is not an amazing bass player....he's an amazing song writer/composer. Steve Harris was playing that lead bass style before anyone knew who Cliff Burton was. Simply, put as a bass player Cliff's alright and sometimes sloppy.

As a song writer, and song composer he is one of the best metal minds in the history of forever. Just because I don't think he shits diamonds on bass does not mean I don't recognize the man's talent.

  • @Toony678 Who fucked up your childhood?fuck steve harris,he aint shit compared to cliff, did you even see some of cliff's solos?

  • @666HeavyMetalArmy666

Wow, you just said Steve Fucking Harris the bass player and main song writer of Iron Maiden one of the few bands that Metallica looks up to 'not shit ' and called my child hood fucked up lol.

  • @666HeavyMetalArmy666 steve harris is very repetitive in his bass playing

  • @stenback31289 But without him, Iron Maiden wouldn't even exist ...

  • @stenback31289 You like only heard 3 songs right?

  • @Dennis19901 that was a very shitty comeback, I have their entire discography. Steve harris mostly uses triplets in his bass playing. (the trooper, run to the hills, caught somewhere in time, alexander the great etc) im not saying he's a bad bass player, I'm just saying he's very repetitive in what he does.

  • @stenback31289 He made it kind of his signature thing... I for one love it! x)

  • @ookikies if your referring to Harris, it was the "two-finger" triplet he made his signature. In an interview I think he said he didn't have the dexterity to play with 8 fingers so he uses 6 (all four for the fretboard and 2 for plucking). Like I said, he isn't a bad bassist at all, just repetitive in his rhythms.

  • @stenback31289 True, but then again. Maiden is more "melody based" that Metallica was so...

I don't think it's fair to compair the two. You have to follow some of the riffs that Metallica plays, they're too chromatic.

Cliff's pretty sloppy at times, super good musician though. Had a very good "ear".

He was an innovator rather than a perfector.

Steve Harris is repetitive BUT he often do what fits the music more.

He doesn't "fool around". That's what makes him great.

    Cliff did the opposite.

  • @JtK27 Cliff wasn't that sloppy at all; you have to remember that it's difficult to compare him with Steve, because Steve played with Clive Burr and now plays with Nicko McBrain, and Cliff played with...Lars. Yeah. Plus, James is a machine with the rhythm guitar, so anybody sounds sloppy compared to him. Although I did read that in MoP, they recorded James's parts before Cliff's, so he played over those and the drums.

  • @VideoMask93 Yes he is. Not super-sloppy. But imo he is. I love him, he's a great bassist, I am myself a bassist, I recognise his talent. But he's a little sloppy.

Instead he's a "hard hitter". I like that too. He's not Mohammad Ali, but he's Rocky Marciano. He hits hard and makes it count.

But in return he's a little sloppy.

But yeah, everyone shit their pants when I say that because he's "a legend". I think he is. But just like a lot of people he's faulty, I like that.

    Done.

  • @VideoMask93 Even live he seems a little sloppy, but hey... So am I. He was human, so am I.

His legacy can't be questioned, I agree.

But I think he's sloppy to a degree.

There's not much else to add for me. It's just my opinion.

  • @VideoMask93 James doesn't play rythmn guitar...

  • @cursedswordsman James Hetfield? Yes he does.

  • @Toony678 @sepultallifly <<<<<<< both noobs John Entwistle was the first guy to play lead style and distorted bass

  • @jthoeflich10 I love Cliff, but that's nonsense.

  • This was so helpful!!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • who cares how the fuck he created the sound, tone or whatever. Enjoy it at least instead of criticizing it

  • Fucking bad ass!

  • 0:19 - 0:20 i thought that was james making a noise, THATS CLIFF'S FUCKING TIGER BASS!

  • They arnt loose strings, it's coz they are being slapped and he is using slides and stokes. He plays in standard E, so that's not loose at all.

  • You sure that's not a Half Step down from E?

  • God...Cliff makes his bass scream like a lion.

  • I LOVE THIS BASS LINE!!!!

    SO AUTHORITATIVE AND COMMANDING!!!!

  • His strings sound loose.

  • is cliff using flats or rounds? causes hes bashing the fuck outta those strings but no heavy clank, but than again is pretty distorted the whole way through

  • He should have done the whole album with the distortion and wah!

  • @SpectralUltra It`s a fuzz pedal,some of a wah and distortion...

He strikes the string, and gives the sroke just over the rear mic...

The intro, I `d like someone to tll me..i can`t believe nor understand, how that ·guitarlike" sound was made by Cliff..

    Thanks

  • @flavy1000 electro harmonix bass fuzz pedal, and dunlop crybaby wah

  • @pokefreak1000 I'm pretty sure he used a Morley wah

  • @wyldemw he uses big muff and a morley power wah fuzz, great combination

  • @flavy1000 Good! I wasn`t so wrong ,then ...

It`s a striking to the heart bassline...

    I love it..Thanks for answering!!

    Flavy

(Note: I`ma woman bass player from Argentina...didn`t tell you first, in order you would not "despise "my comments..I`ve got a lot of that ...thanks for your answers!)

  • @flavy1000 get a big muff pi, the black one, and a morely power wah.....my vids should be proof that its a pretty close match.........just sayin yo.

  • @beserker1912 ...thanks!!getting closer to the truth, ja,ja...Cliff is now smiling at all our commments, I guess...with hapiness that we are remembering him this way...

Muff pedal, and...Morley, that`s what you intended to write, perhaps?

Thanks a lot again..now, the fact is to get the pedals... or imitatethe effects...

    xd

    Bye!!

  • @flavy1000 dont get the american muff, get the russian if you can. did you watch my video????

  • love the sound in the beginning that so fucking cool

  • His tone is awsome

  • Awesome sound

  • @harle321 Distortion pedal.

  • @harle321 It's distorted bass and wah effect in intro

  • reverb

  • distorted bassguitar is awesome...

  • Big muff Pi pedal

  • no the best riff is in Orion. love Cliff's riffs

  • @harle321; He is using a distortion pedal and a wah pedal

  • This is VERY easy to play. One of my favorites to play as well.

  • @jake92195 I even play this on my guitar whenever I play to this song mainly because it's an awesome part of the song even if it's not done on the guitar orginally

  • @jake92195 most people dont play it right lol

    still pretty easy though :)

  • HA! I never noticed the little change up at :30

  • people are going on videos of bass tracks of thrash music to say the basslines suck? aw...yeah... i don´t get it....

  • fuck em all

  • this song is awsome and not to hard but not to easy i love it

  • @scottielovesmakayla FWTBT is not too hard to play (even if you try to play it the way Cliff did, it ain't too hard), but I can imagine it being hard to write a bass line like this.

  • Don't worry when Cliff comes back from Heaven from giving God bass lessons he'll find that driver himself, and kill that motherfucker

  • no way dude hes too chill of a guy to do that. hed just play shows. tahts wat he loved doing not fighting ppl

  • true...but would you let the man who killed you walk?

  • depends on if he meant to

  • You're stupid, he did not kill him... It's called an accident... Would you kill the best bassist ever?

  • @dudiaz

Well, he might have killed everyone because of awesome soloing.... So maybe god took him away for the good of mankind.

  • ok? u mean Cliff Burton?

  • @zack2703 I mean god! im pretty sure he slaps the bass big time

  • very true my friend, a lot of bands over the years have switched the rythem guitarist, for just a bassist who plays rythem.....

Mark Sandman (Morphine) was an extremely good blues/jazz/rock bassist who shows an amazing style of bass. Mostly playing with a 2 string slide bass and many other types of weird tuned/ modified bass guitars to give himself a one of a kind sound,

  • Because people are stupid and wont belive that.

  • @alreadytaken334 Because you're bein a douche nozzle.

  • lol

  • @CabooseKilledChurch2 I'm sure the driver is also dead.

  • @CabooseKilledChurch2 Wtf is wrong with you? Do you actully he would drive a bus just to lose control over it and crash it on purpose, risking his own life, just to kill Cliff Burton? You're fucking stupid and so are the people who thumb you up.

  • @Knifyman wow that comment is over a year old, and i didn't say he did it on purpose dipshit, but supposedly the driver was drinking, so that's why i said it.

  • @CabooseKilledChurch2 The driver didn't drink anything, the police checked him. Am I a piece of shit because I say against you? I'll bet that you also were pissed off over the Muhammed drawings.

  • @CabooseKilledChurch2 I would hate to be him!

  • I wish more bass sounded like this... R.I.P. Cliff, the greatest bass player ever (you know damn well he would be hands-down the best bassist in the world if he were alive today. I hope a fucking airplane falls out of the sky on the tour bus driver who fell asleep at the wheel and killed Cliff Burton. I think I would hunt down the motherfucker and kill him my fucking self if I ever found out who he was.)

  • no need to dirty your hands with that motherfucker's blood (the driver),probably he's already dead convulsed in a fucking cardboard box : )

  • So true

If cliff was alive he would be the god of bass

  • just think of the extra 20+ years of experience Cliff would have if he was still with us. it'd be fucking unreal seeing him now.

  • He still is

  • WHOA THERES A LOT OF DIFRENCES FROM WHAT I HEAR (damn caps lock) here and to what the tab says

  • Cliff got a lot better from Kill EM All to Ride the Lightning.

  • @HAN56HAN Maybe because in Kill 'Em All he had to follow McGovney's lines?

  • In my opinion, the intro to this song is the greatest bass line in Metal History. 0:09-0:43, greatest bass line ever! The intro to this song is so fucking ferocious with the bell in the background.

  • the intro of souls of black by testament. that bass line is on the same level as this. but i'll leave it up to the rest of you as to which one is better

  • @MarcellusHellraiser hail you man \m/

  • @MarcellusHellraiser It's and electric chair....

  • @Emceetem he was talking about the song not the album cover...

  • oohhhhhh: that TONE Fucking beautiful!

  • Maybe because Rob had about 20 years to become better than Cliff. Cliff died at about 24. Rob is 46.

  • this is a great point, imagine what cliff would be like if he had 22 more years of practise, thats like double the skill he was at when he died xp

  • yea....just look what it did to Lars....lol

  • Haha, good point, the difference is Cliff was a good musician. Lars was never really amazing, but peaked around Justice/Black Album era.

  • Anyone who guys by tabs as gospel is a fool, rarely any of the tab books out there are accurate and have nothing to do with the band.

It's best to use your eyes and ears to learn.

  • fair enough dont go by them as gospel but tabs generally give you a pretty accurate idea then you change if you have to.

  • Yeah, then to go watch them when they play to see if they play it the way you play.

  • i totally agree

  • yeah, but generally, people who use tabs (Im reffering to most young guitarists), when they use tabs, they just go all, "youre playing it rong, im amazing cos this is the way they play. Besids. Some players prefer playin in different positions then the guitarist does. Saying youre amazing becos you play it like the pro means youre just a non creativ copy-cat.

  • Gotta agree with Subliminalll here....I learned this song by watching videos of Cliff, by listening to the master bass track, and by playing to the song....it takes longer than looking up a tab, but in the end you improve more, and don't make mistakes in the tab.

  • Comment removed

  • ???? This IS Cliff, I dont get what you are saying.

  • hahahahhahah! asshole... ¬¬ this is the original bass track cliff recorded

  • this is awesome were can i download it??

  • What effects did Cliff use for the intro?
