Ironically enough, I received this game as a gift for my 12th Birthday, so you can imagine the shock when I played the game.

Not just because Link and I shared birthdays (and apparently Jepson too) but we were both also 12 years old at the time.

I can't remember where I read that the age of garbing of the kid/hero/thing is 12, but I'm pretty sure it's true

Since the official Timeline was released, the theory about Link being in Termina (my previous theory as well) has (supposedly) been proven false; the reason Link didn't appear was actually because, if you remember, at the end of OoT, as Adult Link and Zelda are talking during the aftermath of the battle against Ganon, Zelda plays her Lullaby and it sends Adult Link back to his Child self, leaving that alternate universe without a Link because when Zelda played the Ocarina, it split timeline.
