Arris modems are CRAP! I've been through so many. My last modem died, Arris modem. When it popped and fizzed while I was BROWSING FACEBOOK, I unhooked it and threw it across the room, I am now on an RCA modem that I own, no rental fee and a good quality modem, and it's just nice on the Internet. I'm on Mediacom BTW. RCA DCM425 if you don't have phone. RCA DHG535 if you have VOIP phone.
I had Comcast and have to admit, in my area it was pretty reliable and fast (all new cabling), however they were expensive and their 250 gig cap was getting ridiculous. I switched to u-verse for tv and internet and couldn't be happier. If it's available in your area, try it - the speeds are about the same and the equipment is much, much better.
Comcast's tv boxes in my area was old and required frequent resets (hdr boxes). And yes, they SHAMEFULLY re-used crappy equipment.
Xfinity totally blows!! They KNOW their awful SMC modem/router is a piece of crap and they lie to your face about "potential" Internet speeds and pricing. Whatever price they quote you, add 40% more for your actual bill for hidden fees and charges. Customer "service" is non existent . Great Internet speed if you lay your laptop or iPad on top of the modem...walk six feet away and it's gone... In my experience with wow i had 1 mbs per second. The box would randomly shut off, it would block any router plugged into it. finally when i called to get it fixed, they basically said fuck off, we don't give a shit. Then i switched and Wide open west salesmen are always at my door.
look at my site and you will see why some places don't work @100%... Poor repair and sloppy repair work. Plain and simple..... They just don't care in some places.. They even have over weight and color blind Com Tech 5's....
I got comcast and I'm really happy with it, Ive never had any major issues with it,execpt when I was using there digital phone, we went through 6 modems before we switched to vonage, now we got our own modem wich is a DOCSIS 3.0 motorola, there are outages in the area form time to time, and we did have problems with poorly trained techs which I filed a complante on and got discounts on the bill for it

They do give used modems because there to cheap to pay and get some decent equipment you have to go in and ask for a new one like DOCIS 3.0 to get a new one. I worked for them and if your not getting the speed there are some tricks to reprogram your modem and get faster speeds.

I have had internet access and cable issues since June 17,11. I have been calling almost daily to get a technician to show up to resolve my issues. The technicians have lied several times about showing up, the supervisors ae useless, the service guarantee is a farce.
my modem stopped working said they would come out and replace the modem - but it will cost me because the modem is not from Comcast so it will no be for free- but they sent me the modem - also i am suppose to have the package deal - tv internet and phone - never got the phone connection, asked several times to get the right equipment for the phone - i was told i had to get it at Radio Shack - RS never heard of that before - told me I had to get it from them.
part 2 - my internet came to a crawl then dead stop - next day was fine, tonight it was slow again, guy told me i would have to live with a slow connection if i wasn't going to replace the broken modem -
I know all they have to do is flip the switch and reset my connection from there, but the jackass refused insisted it was my modem - despite now having disconnected the TV it works fine - so now i have to unplug one thing to use another.

I have been through four of the same modems and the fifth one didn't have the same problem but the cable line running to my house was "Deemed insufficient to run internet service but good enough to run digital cable) my house is 17 years old so it not like the cords are chewed up. I canceled and switched to uverse. I'm glad i did. Comcast was getting expensive

Comcast has 105 Mbps Fios has 100 Mpbs. Im sorry you live in a shitty area that has only 16 Mbps. Move to Boston. Lots of factors go into why your speeds are shitty. My guess is Ingress and not the modem. Mention ingress to the next tech you talk to. Anyone with some brains will at least look at PathTrak and see whats going on in your area. Fucking Comcast won't even let me use my own modem saying it won't work. I had 2 new ones and told me both don't work and then try to charge me for those 2!! ASSHOLES. I even subcontracted with them and they took it away for no reason! Overpriced shit. Other countries got 5 times their speed & half the cost!

lol i used to work for comcast and they are one of the worst companies out there. We would constantly explain the reason why people are unhappy and the would turn a deaf ear to it. But anyways yes there are lots of stories I can tell you my favorite are the outages that they will have for 2-3 days at a time and no information gets passed around here to let the people working there know what is going on. Or that hotels having issues only get tech support til 7pm then someone goes out the next day

I have had comcast internet in the past, let me tell you it is really unreliable! I have been through four of the same modems and the fifth one didn't have the same problem but the cable line running to my house was "Deemed insufficient to run internet service but good enough to run digital cable) my house is 17 years old so it not like the cords are chewed up. I canceled and switched to uverse. I'm glad i did. Comcast was getting expensive

Comcast sux its taken them 6 months so far to fix mine and its still not fixed , all I get is excuses on why t hey cant drop a new feeder line and find out its because comcast owes my county money for permits and they wont give them anymore til they are paid , ha they expect me to pay my bill on time everymonth but they cant even pay theres so they can fix there problems .

That's why we have Cox. Don't laugh at how the name sounds. It is not available to all the states and contrys, but it is Fast, and Great. It never Failed us, it is Direct Digital Cable, Phone Line, and HIGH Speed internet! :) I wish you could have it dude! :) lol, I used to live in El Paso, Texas where we had Com Cast. Hated it they brought Cox there and I still have a "High Speed Internet" Box from them in my room unopened with Espanole. I Love living in Las Vegas, Nevada! :) - AnE Productions

Comcast has 105 Mbps Fios has 100 Mpbs. Im sorry you live in a shitty area that has only 16 Mbps. Move to Boston. Lots of factors go into why your speeds are shitty. My guess is Ingress and not the modem. Mention ingress to the next tech you talk to. Anyone with some brains will at least look at PathTrak and see whats going on in your area. Ask for a plant ops tech to come to your house instead of a fucking field tech. Good luck.

I love comcast and their ability to make me lag on multilayer 99% of the time I'm playing on my Wii or Xbox. And randomly drop connections and give me second hand routers and wireless B modems. No kidding they really gave me a fucking wireless B modem one time.
