Nice vid bro.... lots of good points. My thoughts: 350z > s2000 and coupe >>>>> roadster ALWAYS! Don't want to sacrifice type 1 cool (chassis stability) for common type 2 (people seem to love a dropped top). RWD dynamics >> 4WD (pending driver skill). Mustang = Ford = Too Common to tickle type 2 cool preference. I must say I prefer my G35 6MT over the 350. But I also prefer my G35 > G37/370z based on sharper edge styling (T-2). Keep on keepin' it real... too many people don't....
I just wanted to say that I own a 2003 Honda S2000 and the gas mileage is not great, In fact it sucks. I dont get better than 22 MPG however I drive it
Very Cool opening! This is one SUPER COOL vid too. I was very confused when you mentioned the "Two kinds of cool" then I found this video and felt like an idiot.
@Distance9240 not true, look at a lot of european cars. My 98 A4 has the 1.8T with the stock K03. Takes 4L of oil, also drove a 2005 tib with the 2.0 that I was going to turbo. It used 4.2 litres or oil. That being said the K03 is a small turbo, but unless you are running high pressure the turbine will not heat up enough to worry about excessive oil damage. Also if your oil is burning off in the turbine, you obvious have a problem and your bearings will be grinding! OUCH!
I gotta say I am a big fan of your videos and fully support your view of the right to bear arms however the thing about the nissan 370Z? Starting MSRP for the 370Z in 30K which isn't bad for a car with 330 HP but the MSRP for the ford mustang gt is 29K and it has 415 HP so it would be the better value at least IMO.

Your two types of cool have to do with objective versus subjective, I think. The first kind is objective: There is an object out there in the world that we can all see, observe, and evaluate scientifically. The "enjoyment" kind of cool is subjective: There is no object in the world, but an emotional concept of an object in someone's mind.
Now "brand myopia" is also called fanboyism, but that's not a philosophical term.
rx-8 "smurf-mobile" ouch haha, check out the older body style, looks better in my opinion... and youre right about the mileage-- i average 16mpg in my '04.
the torque doesnt matter above 4k rpms (and you can go to 9k+) but again youre right, no low end power
@JAndersonIV Even in my 93 R-1TT (rx-7) there was no tq. I was launching that car at 4.5k and it would bark the tires and book no burnouts etc.. even with the turbos from a 99spec A.
Overall, I'll go with performance over any other aspect ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. But hell, you've gotta love a sweet looking gun or car too. For example, I LOVE the look of a Beretta M9. I was going to get one, until I saw Nutn's review of it, in which he revealed it was a BEHEMOTH on weight. So, I decided to go with the Glock. HATE the appearance of square guns, but overall, a better performing and lighter gun.
Nice video, finally get the real meaning of second kind of cool, though I pretty much got it through the context it was used in. I personally LOVE WWI and WWII weapons and while they are perhaps out performed by modern rifles etc. they do it for me and perform quite well. Just knowing I am shooting an M1 like my dad did in WWII is cool to me, shooting an 03 same deal, BUT the do perform quite well, sometimes better than todays stuff.
Figured out the 'two types of cool' the more you mentioned it in the more videos I saw after I started watchin' ya but it's nice to see this vid :) I especially like the BRAND MYOPIA part, definitely can relate to that one.
How is that not private consumption? What about what the seller does with the income he acquires? I agree with you for different reasons though. Despite what the GDP formula is, I think it's really not good for the country unless you are increasing exports of goods/services. It's like conservation of energy, we are not gaining anything by exchanging internally. But I don't want to turn his two types of cool comments section into an amateur economics thread :)
Nutn can you please review more everyday stuff like this? Its really awesome that you don't actually know a whole lot about cars and you take an objective approach to how good something is without posting a bunch of stats and lap times and crap. Seriously amazing.
woulda gone with the Subaru lol, that is one of the best handling things i have ever touched, low center of grav, all wheel drive is great, and not bad mileage either, big suby fan right here
Honestly, I imported my 2006 chevy lumina ss from saudi arabia and I got crap from 2 kinds of people at the autodrome: The younger ones with their over gel-ed hair and upside down visors, and the guys in their really "high-end" car because my car was an ordinary sedan, I was blown away by their idea of performance, but you know what? the gearheads over there appreciated the 3 years of work i put in there, and i ended up smoking everyone except for a man in a camry, and you know what? @tobitadagon I agree with what you say except "The younger ones with their over gel-ed hair and upside down visors,". This is HIS second kind of cool. Don't diss him because it isn't your second kind of cool.
I have great respect for Nutnfancy and enjoy his videos. I was disappointed to see the radar detector in his car. What about Rule of Law (ROL) behind the wheel? If you don't speed, you don't need a radar detector. It's that simple.
I've had one speeding ticket and that was over 35 years ago when I was 16. The last time I was pulled over for a traffic violation was over 25 years ago. That's 2 tickets in over 35 years of driving. That's what it means to acknowledge ROL behind the wheel.
I scare myself with how many times I agree with this guy! Its like with compacts - anyone asks me, I ALWAYS recommend the Honda Civic. I would NEVER buy one, just don't like them, but I acknowledge their quality and value. And yeah, that wire HAS TO GO. Maybe its just a GTech Pro type deal, not a detector, and he's gathering data, so its temporary? Bottom line - CONFUSE THE 2 COOLS, LOOK LIKE AN ASSHOLE. Just admit you like something for no good reason and we're cool:)
i like this guy not in a gay way, but hes the kind of guy who would make the right choice. to bad he didnt get the 370z, and i have to say hes radar detector wire would bug the fuck out of me lol, nice car :)
I have a 08 TC for commuting / grocery getting and a 06 Tacoma for outdoors activities, moving stuff, anything where a truck is needed as a tool. Both I feel do what they are ment to do very well for the money. Then I have a Remington 870 with a 26in barrel for hunting and a 18in barrel for if badguys come in my house.
Audi actually does rhyme with shoddy. At least I think that is how most Europeans will pronounce it. I think the howdy sounding pronunciation of Audi is americanized.
@fidgetingfinch: The Germans rhyme it with "howdy" (so it's right) and so do the Brits. If you're interested, it's a Latin word meaning "hark" or "listen" as an exclamation. Anyone who doesn't rhyme it with "howdy" is wrong.
Driving gloves in a muscle car? ...anyway, moving on.
I find this video kind of pointless. All you are doing is stating the obvious. 99% of people do what you explain anyway, so I do not really see why you made the video.
This is going to upset ALOT of ricers out there but v8s make more power with less money. Simple dead issue the cheapest motor to buy parts for and build is a tie with 350 Chevy or 5.0 Ford They are everywhere and can make real power real easy. Im sorry 4 banger parts may seem cheaper( half the time they arent) but they dont give you a power/price ratio like 5.0 and 350 v8's will im sorry. You can get 500hp out of a 350 with some extreme bolt ons no turbo or supercharging yet
Its all about tastes in my opinion...You like muscle..Cool, you like imports..Cool..I personaly like imports and british cars but I have no problem with American muscle, I would never buy one..But im not against them.
I agree with this idea (anti brand myopia) but what if the brand itself serves as a delivery of the second kind of cool? You don't HAVE to hate all other brnad to be myopic in regards to "your" brand. Example, my first motorcycle was a Kawasaki Ninja. I picked it because of the performance but became sentimental (2nd kind of cool) towards the brand. I have had three Ninjas now and will most likely always go that route. I am "myopic" due to the 2nd kind of cool the brand porvides me.
Its true. my first cool is the glock 17 its tuff and fits greaT but the looks are p l a i n . . . on the other hand the tarus pt 24/7 is my secnd cool. not saying its a bad gun but if i had to put my life on it i would grab the glock. on the other hand its sooo much better looking . . . . makes it hard to pick
To me, the second kind of cool is pretty important to me. For instance, I decided my first full sized pistol will not be a Glock simply because everyone has one, and it no longer becomes special. With that, it goes with Sigs too since everyone that doesn't have a glock has a sig. So I find a gun that has to both look cool and function as well as these two. In my discovery the Jerhico 941 fits the bill perfectly. No one really has one, and it functions very well.
This is one of my favorite discussions in a class I took in school. It's the difference between Logic and Emotion. You describe Love with a logical arguement or statistics and numbers, just like you can't explain a Math problem by using emotions and feelings.
i bought a 92 lx mustang notchback a few years ago. 2500$ got me a full rollcaged 351 (5.8l)windsor with 4:10 gears no A/C, no power windows, no door panels no back seat no radio. thing is scary fast , flat out camero /corvette eater
i mean you can punch it in 3rd and end up doing a 360
point is american muscle is the way to go, for dollar spent on the power you get you cant beat
the balls to the wall power of
o yeah glock- first choice for black gangbangers everywhere. say no to plastic
glock-first choice for law enforcement and armed officials around the world...its proven itself time and again as a capable firearm, its just to bad its gotten a bad reputation by criminals.
First off you have a rollcage in a street car which is pointless and dangerous. Pluss the windsor sucks you must have a shit ton of money in it to be beating vettes.
i had a 86 mustang 5.0 convertable that i bought for 400 bucks, turned all the way out except supercharged. it was ugly as sin - red with white interior. i loved it, i would stomp porches, ws6s, gtos, camaros all day long. not the fastest car i ever drove no doubt the hotest, funest, and easiest to drive. i mean i could put my grandma in it and shed be figured 8ing with no effort. defeinatly scary.
On a side note, I have an S2000 as well. I am a die-hard top-down kind of guy. However, MPG isn't all that great. Averaging 20mpg. Then again, I do get on it more than most...
Looks like you can handle that Z pretty well... I am a huge fan of your videos much respect.. I recently did a Skip Barber Racing School I highly suggest it price wasn't bad one of the best day of my lives... a few of the cars were Louts Exige S, Porsche Cayman S, 330i, all killer cars great experience
lol don't look at the mustang, Big V8 making equivalent power to 3.5 liter v6 and weighs too much with ordinary brakes on top of a chassis that's just not as rigid as 350Z. Btw, new 370z makes 330hp.
I drive a 97 concorde with 270,000 miles, it rattles, the tranny is starting to jerk when it shifts, and it is dinged up. Sucks I had to push my 95 saab 900 too hard and crash it, I will miss it. If the saab 900 was RWD, it would be the ultimate car, not the best at anything, but good all around. I just felt like rambling, sorry.
There are so many brilliantly amazing cars out there, and I know I am missing out, but I am American and refuse to buy anything less. Which is funny because I don't feel that way about anything else. It is easily arguable that SOME of the BEST guns are NOT made in America. Now, if I'm shopping at the store and I have a choice, I will go American every time...
Brand Myopia! Well said. I was typing a reply while listening to the video to make reference to the same aspect. I like to broaden the spectrum slightly and call it Fan Favorite VS Underdog. I am a sucker for the Underdog! Another great video! Thank You.
A few days after I bought it, my friend and I went out to the back 40 to fire it and some others. Two weeks exactly after he fired it he bought him one in a .40. It's not the best firearm in the world but it is a fine one at a very good price, $350. Even though it is larger than my Glock, I use it as my carry weapon and that's my choice. To each his own. Right?
Almost all the Glock owners that I know are completely devoted 100+% to their weapon and it is very annoying. I own a G38 that was passed on to me from my grandfather (the subborn old bastard) and I started to understand what the G-freaks were raving about. A few months ago I decided to buy me a 24/7 pro .45 and that thing (being the cheapest pistol I own) is the most comfortable handgun I have ever fired. One of my good friends, that owns three Glocks, ripped on me since the moment I bought it.
nice z man congrats. if you need advice on any up grades that you want to do to the car pm me i have a lot of experience with that sort of thing. btw love your vid great work.
How did you mount the camera in the backseat? I've been trying to figure out how to get a camera in the back seat with a good view but can't quite figure it out.
i no what you mean when u talk about the forum trash thats why i never look at forums my friends are always telling me theres kool stuff on there but most of it is crap and i feel the same way when people who have like no videos think they know it all and feel they have the right to rip on your videos. Keep up the good work nutn.
I've always been an "American Muscle" kinda guy, although a friend of mine has 50th Anniversary '84 Nissan 350 turbo. I must confess, it's a nice car.
Solid video, Nutnfancy. That is the same way I look at most things, although sometimes the performance of certain products will have such an extreme effect on your enjoyment that you end up with a very different POV! Keep it up man.
I think I can sum up your video in a few sentences. Spyderco knives are great knives. They are well constructed and people rave about them. I'll never buy one cause I don't like folders with thumb holes. I perfer thumb studs. Call me weird if you want.
This is a great vid with great philosophy. Nice job!
The RX-8 is that "2nd kind of cool" for me. I want one so bad. I love the look and especially the engineering behind it. Wankel engines are far more efficient at transfering power. It may only have 230hp, but it's comin from a 1.3L engine!
Just because you have a radar dectetor doesn't mean you dont drive safely. Judging by his driving he was well inside the capabilites of the Z. Radar dectetors are a very good tool to have, In my neck of the woods all emergency (Fire/Ambulance) vechiles amit a radar signal to get cars to slow down before they approach the scene. All Radar detectors do is save you money, you mean to tell me you never drove over the speed limit beofore??
Too bad this is getting cluttered up with comments that seem to think this is a video about cars. :(
Thanks, Nutn, for the good discussion of brand myopia. It's something I've run into a lot on photography forums in a very big way to the point it makes it hard to sort out the "noise".
Let's see, I've been driving performance cars off and on since 1981 and can routinely take them to 9/10s in challenging canyon conditions and vanquish any oponents in the process. And I've safely returned every time. However maybe I've missed something in my driving skills and proven techniques. I went to your Channel page to maybe learn what that might be but I see you have no vids at all... on anything. More armchair eltisim from a non-player. 'Nuf said.
Like a lot of what I own, utility was the main factor in my purchase of a new Toyota FJ Cruiser. I needed something very reliable AND 4x4 capable. I spend a lot of time off pavement. I would have purchased a Jeep if they weren't so under-powered, cheaply made issue prone.
Z > other cars you've shown. high performance for the money. long lasting engine. could be cheap on gas if you want it to be(but it's very hard to keep the rpm low once you driving it)
"So... you made a video just to show off your new car and justify the purchase" What? Don't read into peoples' motives and you're wrong. There will be no deduction made for the Z. This is the type of nonsense that goes on in the forums and makes them so unpleasant. The Z was chosen an interesting example to speak to the points made. You missed those points apparently.
I think you guys are missing the point of this video, it's not about cars... Anyways, is anyone else missing the 10 minute knife reviews? This stuff we've been watching lately is cool, but it's getting boring.
Nice vid man, I have a fully restored 1969 camero SS that's my kind of cool. But knives are my number 1. Love the vid man keep em comming. take care bro
once you choose a vehicle its more or less yours.the on goung thing is the (i feel) EXCESSIVE insurance rates.AND EXPENSIVE SHOP TIME FOR MAINTENENCE.
I've got a '95 Chevy Caprice 9C1 (Police Package). Pound for pound, Ex-Police cars are the best value for the dollar.
Press the accelerator down, and then the Corvette LT1 begins to inhale the environment with a roar and you get pinned into the seat as you go from 0-60 in 6-7 seconds. I've surprised more than a few guys with that car, it's a lot faster than it looks. Plus it's comfortable to drive, has reasonable mpg is easy to repair, and insurance is cheap. Only cost me 3k to buy too.
Hey Fatguywitha45...You know why that is? Some of the motors makes more power and some make less stock. They can't have every motor making exactly 325hp. Thats the average power that a group of them make to get that number. Some make only 300 at the flywheel and some make 350. Do some research!
GM Made weak transmissions back then. I've got the same year of a 1500. Trans SUCKS. Sometimes you just get a lemon. I Know a guy that bought a new Ford dually back in 01 I think. It blew up before he got home. Talk about bad luck.
Iroc-Z may make the same hp, but I'm willing to put money on it that the S2000 will KILL IT. I owned an Iroc-Z. 88 model. Now its a good car, but yeah its not gonna hang with an S2k. About your other comment, there is alot more to how a car performs than just how much HP it makes bro. Also consider that what the manufacturer puts down as the HP isn't what's going to the wheels either. 325 for an SS. Nah its not making that where is counts at the rear end. Probably 280 or less.
hey nutn could you do a review on a frank b. stiletto switch blade? i know they aren't tactical or really even useful but boy they fit into the second kind of cool for just about everyone, admit it even you want one if you don't already have one =)

I've had one speeding ticket and that was over 35 years ago when I was 16. The last time I was pulled over for a traffic violation was over 25 years ago. That's 2 tickets in over 35 years of driving. That's what it means to acknowledge ROL behind the wheel.
Gary7even 2 years ago
@Gary7even you never NEED a radar detector. It is helpful, whether or not you speed.

In our country (America, where he's driving) he would too, but we don't waste our time talking about it

Audi actually does rhyme with shoddy. At least I think that is how most Europeans will pronounce it. I think the howdy sounding pronunciation of Audi is americanized.

MadtactiX 2 years ago

Its true. my first cool is the glock 17 its tuff and fits greaT but the looks are p l a i n . . . on the other hand the tarus pt 24/7 is my secnd cool. not saying its a bad gun but if i had to put my life on it i would grab the glock. on the other hand its sooo much better looking . . . . makes it hard to pick
ohbucki53 2 years ago
To me, the second kind of cool is pretty important to me. For instance, I decided my first full sized pistol will not be a Glock simply because everyone has one, and it no longer becomes special. With that, it goes with Sigs too since everyone that doesn't have a glock has a sig. So I find a gun that has to both look cool and function as well as these two. In my discovery the Jerhico 941 fits the bill perfectly. No one really has one, and it functions very well.

Right?
txflip29 3 years ago
Almost all the Glock owners that I know are completely devoted 100+% to their weapon and it is very annoying. I own a G38 that was passed on to me from my grandfather (the subborn old bastard) and I started to understand what the G-freaks were raving about. A few months ago I decided to buy me a 24/7 pro .45 and that thing (being the cheapest pistol I own) is the most comfortable handgun I have ever fired. One of my good friends, that owns three Glocks, ripped on me since the moment I bought it.

The RX-8 is that "2nd kind of cool" for me. I want one so bad. I love the look and especially the engineering behind it. Wankel engines are far more efficient at transfering power. It may only have 230hp, but it's comin from a 1.3L engine!
drmoo46 3 years ago
Just because you have a radar dectetor doesn't mean you dont drive safely. Judging by his driving he was well inside the capabilites of the Z. Radar dectetors are a very good tool to have, In my neck of the woods all emergency (Fire/Ambulance) vechiles amit a radar signal to get cars to slow down before they approach the scene. All Radar detectors do is save you money, you mean to tell me you never drove over the speed limit beofore??

Let's see, I've been driving performance cars off and on since 1981 and can routinely take them to 9/10s in challenging canyon conditions and vanquish any oponents in the process.

Only cost me 3k to buy too.

i agree with fatguywitha45, he must be very smart. great vid nutnfancy!
camaroz28fatbuttgabe 3 years ago
Hey Fatguywitha45...You know why that is? Some of the motors makes more power and some make less stock. They can't have every motor making exactly 325hp. Thats the average power that a group of them make to get that number. Some make only 300 at the flywheel and some make 350. Do some research!
GoDJuNkeR 3 years ago
GM Made weak transmissions back then. I've got the same year of a 1500. Trans SUCKS. Sometimes you just get a lemon. I Know a guy that bought a new Ford dually back in 01 I think. It blew up before he got home. Talk about bad luck.
GoDJuNkeR 3 years ago
Iroc-Z may make the same hp, but I'm willing to put money on it that the S2000 will KILL IT. I owned an Iroc-Z. 88 model. Now its a good car, but yeah its not gonna hang with an S2k. About your other comment, there is alot more to how a car performs than just how much HP it makes bro. Also consider that what the manufacturer puts down as the HP isn't what's going to the wheels either. 325 for an SS. Nah its not making that where is counts at the rear end. Probably 280 or less.
