  • On this date in 1957 {Feb. 23rd} "Party Doll" entered Billboard's Best Seller's chart; on March 30th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 23 weeks in the Top 100...

    Ranked 13th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1957 chart...

Recorded in same studios that Buddy Holly recorded in Clovis, NM

    Other 1957 charted versions; Steve Lawrence {#5}, Wingy Manone {#56}, and Roy Brown {#89}

Non-charted cover versions; The Crests and The Fleetwoods...

  • The 'B' side of this- Devil Woman- could still be a rockin' alt-country fiddler's hoedown. It was HOT! ^..^

  • is this a mixed thing between presley and perkins?

  • There are no love songs to Jewish girls -- nothing like Wake Up, Little Sophie.

  • If you, like me, feel Buddy should absolutely be in the R&R Hall of Fame, please write them a letter or e-mail and request they consider doing this.

Only with our help will Buddy Knox get the recognition he deserves and that is WAY overdue.

  • '57-awesome!

  • One of rock and roll's absolute masters. He is greatly missed.

  • Охеренно!!!

  • His 45 RPM records at this point listed him a Lt. Buddy Knox. This is from the Ed Sullivan Show. (You can compare the last chord played by the house orchestra with other "Ed Sullivan" videos to confirm.)

  • cool :)

  • buddy knox was such best freinds with my family since my gramma was shurly evans ( she won a contest like american idol when she was just 3!!!!) (even out of al the adults !!!) i love her!!!

  • Had this single--but sold it!

  • Is this "Magnatone" guitar in his hands??

  • He is great always liked this song. I imagine he was in the Army if he was in

    uniform.

  • Yeeah, like someone would take the risk of appearing in a US military uniform on national TV if he wasn't in the military? He'd have been arrested in a nanosecond for impersonating a military officer if he hadn't been in the military! Think people, think! BTW - this clip IS from the Ed Sullivan show and the Army told him he could only appear on the show IF he wore his uniform!!

  • Does anyone know why he is appearing in a US Army uniform? Was he actually in the army at the time?

  • @laruesansjoie

Buddy went to school in Happy, Texas and then went to West Texas State College (now called West Texas A&M University) in Canyon, Texas where he was in the ROTC and then on into the Army. He played on my dad's football team in Happy.

  • I could be wrong but i think Buddy sung this in "Jamboree" a Great rock 'n roll movie i saw in the early 60's. Unreal.... just love this shit..

  • I didn't know he had died(Feb. '99)- lung cancer from lifelong cigarette smoking. He was handsome(sort of James Dean looking)!

  • I met Buddy about three years earlier. He was visiting a friend in Washington State and we met at a local music store that I worked at at the time.

I auditioned for him and could have had the gig... but it meant some changes in my life that I couldn't deal with.

I remember thinking a man that smokes that much can't be long for this world... and he wasn't. It's too bad, he seemed like a nice man.

  • Wow, this brings back memories. What a great video this is. Thank you for sharing it. --Jan

  • If you would like to know a little more about the late great Buddy Knox, come read our blog at WES BRYAN - MY LIFE IN MUSIC. Wes toured 49 states with Buddy in the late 1950's and early 1960's as Roulette Records stars! Christine Trzyna

  • Anything Buddy knox did was great! Believe he passed on a few years ago.

  • Buddy passed away Feb.14th, 1999 from cancer. I loved his big hits after hearing them at an early age, & got the Buddy Knox/Jimmy Bowen 2 CD set a few years ago. I found out he had a LOT of good recordings. (I actually bought the CD for his recording of "I Ain't Sharin' Sharon" for I was seeing a girl by that name at the time, & loved oldies as much as I did.

  • His music was happy music, and I believe his classic Party doll, was banned in Bosten.I have 3 or 4 of his 45s in my collection.

  • Said like a "true" Christain, Manny.

  • Great singer. Youtube search MANUEL VARGAS (DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL) and you will see an honoring to many beautiful rock and roll songs of these years.

  • yes! who wouldn't love that kickass military uniform while he plays? lol

  • Nice...wish he woulda done Party Doll a little bit longer though =(

  • Yes. Party Doll is a Rockabilly Classic - Hula Love is a best forgotten novelty.
