  • well this came out in like 1980 what do you expect it to look like?

  • This is my favorite Atari2600 game. A nice tip for dealing with those bats. Capture the bat, and throw it in the yellow castle ASAP. Make sure it it moving in an upward motion. It will infinitely look inside the castle.

  • in my top 10 list of 2600 games... this is the SECOND one men, this is the second!!! love this game :)

p.s. the first one is pitfall 2 lost caverns, sorry.

  • The dragons look like sneetches (in case you don't know thoose are flightles yellow enourmous seaguls made by Dr. Seus)

  • Being a fan I wrote a JavaScript version of Adventure; well just the world anyway. It is fully explorable, but doesn't have the other gameplay elements like items, dragons, or the bat. Not yet anyway.

  • Got this game back in '79 and still love it, in fact it's the only game I still care to play

  • This game was amazing considering it came out in the late 70's.

  • Somebody get this freakin' duck away from me!

  • yea one of the first game to have mulitipule screeens with item drop location in memory

  • Wow, this really brings back memories. I haven't seen those images or sounds for decades. I'm getting emotional here, watching this. Thanks for posting and reviewing.

  • This was actually the first review I've seen you do. It's pritty great. I just wish that you could've given this game an A+ because this is really the best game on Atari.

  • wt fthis game isn't playable!

  • oh... that's what you're supposed to do! check out my adventure video to watch me fail

  • Link, eat your heart out

  • Also... That was a sword? I held mine backwards...........

  • @shamrock55540 this game is amazing. I managed to beat all 3 levels. This game also seems to have inspired legend of zelda and that only adds to the awsomeness.

  • This was the BEST game on the 2600 - period.

  • @381jot Best game on atari? More like BEST EVER MADE!

  • @381jot River Raid is better

  • Your reviews R0X0R! Yeah, I still have and play this on my 2600.

  • Your reviews R0X0R!

  • Where are all the little 12-year-olds bitching that this game sucks?

  • I miss my atari. I took it our of mothballs one day and discovered that the metalic conectors under the start and select buttons had coroded to uselesnes. I could pug the games in and turn in on but could not start them. Adventure was one of my favorites along with keystone capers.

  • @Mike28625, go out and buy another before you cant find them anymore. Alot of Buy and Trade Video game stores have Atari's or you can find them online. Just hooked mine back up in the garage a few months back, gonna find an Atari 7800 next.

  • My Mother bought this game for me and my Sister in 1979 when it first came out. I was 11 years old. We knew almost immediately about the Easter Egg, because kids in school that owned the game before us, talked about it. Except back then, nobody called it an Easter Egg. This game is in my top 10 all time favorite Atari 2600 games. I still have my Atari 2600 along with about 50 games and it all still works perfectly. Atari rules !!!

  • Thanks for posting,,lol,, very clever,,, I had this game, was a frustrating game sumtimes.

  • still have this game. over 30 years later. and still play it from time to time.

  • @brybish this game superman spaceinvaders many others remember this was late 70's early 80's just interacting with the tv was awsome then.

  • @brybish

yeah. isnt it great? i love this game.

  • LMAO great review, loved the White castle remark, and yes that but made you pull your fucking hair out its like it knew when you had something you needed

  • Compared to nowaday's games. It's almost refreshing to watch this old classic's simple graphics, sound and gameplay.

  • For some reason I loved how when you got swallowed by the dragon you ended up in his stomach. You could still try and move around in there a bit.

    Great game.

  • Wonder what an RPG would be like on Atari...

  • This game came out the year I was born...I remember playing it when I was little. It looks SO FUCKING STUPID NOW!!!

  • I use to run home from school to play this . Great review !

  • I use to run home from school to play this . Great review !

  • I have an iPhone remake of it where is the white castle?

  • LOL!You was runnin like hell at 2:06 trying to get away from that damn seahorse lookin dragon

  • @ipiddydafool2 Atleast you agree they look like seahorses. Everybody else thinks they look like ducks.

  • Actually Aqualung there is a red dragon in game mode 1, in the black castle gaurding the chalice

  • Well, slay me with a yellow arrow!!

I played this game for years and years and never knew about the easter egg room!

    Learn something new every day....

  • This is "Adventure", as reviewed by Jimmy Hoffa????

  • Aqualang!!!!! :D nice song

  • this is my favorite game on atari. it seems as if this is the first game with a story... well, sord of a story

  • Those things are DUCKS! not dragons!

  • Nice video.

  • I have this game on a collection of classic Atari games on CD.

  • This is stil the best game for any system and I own PS3 and Wii so I know!!

  • i remember playing this way back when. lol.

  • I always hated that bat.

  • This was my favorite Atari 2600 game, and the graphics were very advanced at that time! (Though I always called the dragons 'ducks'.) The castles-and-magic theme really appealed to me and my friends.

  • this game would drive me bonkers...

  • @CescoPisicoli Why?

  • The bats in this game always reminded me of a horse shoe flipping around and around.

  • Everyone calls the dragons DUCKS. But actually they look more like sea horses.

This is still my #1 favorite Atari 2600 game. It's really one of a very few 2600 games that actually FEELS like a game.

  • Comment removed

  • My 2nd favorite Atari game of all time. I must confess, I always felt bad killing the dragons because of the sad, deflated noise they made as their heads fell over.

  • Sometimes when i play, the dragon would come back to life when I killed it with a spear. then when it stayed there, it blocked my path!

  • lol one of the funny parts is when the bat picks up the dragons

  • Loved this game...i remember the keys used to get stuck in the walls and then i'd have to reset the game but it was definitely a favorite back then

  • @dorianz777 That's what the magnet is for!

  • @sableghost I know!! but I there were times I couldn't find the damn thing! ;)

  • @dorianz777 I guess there were those times the bat would leave the magnet stuck in walls. Now that sucked!

  • I would play this game for HOURS and never got tired of it. Loved, loved this game!

  • One trick I used was locking the dragons or bat inside one of the castles to get it out of the way

  • I thought the dragons were seahorses when I first played this.

  • lol and I thought the scorpion walking on the cave of Pitfall was a skull

  • i had nightmares about this game when i was young.

  • whats the game at 0:15?

  • I believe it's called Frogs and Flies.

  • This was my fav in the 80's.

  • Quack, quack.

  • This is the first game I remember that you can actually "finish"

That bat was really irritating. It would do stuff like fly away with the bridge as you were using it, entombing you in a wall.

  • They should place the bat Knubberrub into the online WoW. :)

  • This game looks really fun to play. And by the way, The Yellow Dragon is called Yorgle, the Green one is called Grundle and the Red One is called Rhindle. And the bat is called Knubberub. Yea, I know. What a name.

Anyway, Great review man! Keep it up!

  • PESQUEL!!!

  • It's funny how easily entertained we were back then. I remember playing this game for weeks on end and never getting bored. This game was truly ground-breaking, absorbing and all-around awesome for its time. I'm still playing RPG and adventure games because of it.

Btw, we called the hidden block the "gray dot."

  • I love this game. Classic.

  • I never played this game when I was younger but I saw it being played a lot in the Game Store where I used to buy my D&D stuff when I was a kid. I recently played it and I was surprised by how well it help up.

  • F yeah.

  • i would of enjoyed this game even more if i knew those "brige" things allowed you to crosswalls

  • I loved Adventure, complete with the ducks. I got burned by the "white key inside of the white castle" bug more than once.

I really hated the bat. In one game I was trying to kill a duck with the sword, and it flew in without warning, swapped it with a magnet right at the critical moment. Game over.

  • I playd this game when I was a kid, Enjoyd you're Review,, lol,,, thanks for posting...

  • I never liked this game. No nasty comments plz.

  • fuck you!!. lol just playing :) i like this game. because theres no music in the game. it really draws you in

  • The easy way to deal with dragons was to maneuver to the back of their head. They would have to reposition themselves so that you were near their mouth, in order to gobble you. Keep circling around to the back of his head and you could make the dragon gradually move off to the right, giving you room to get through tight spots.

My cousin and I used to give our characters in Dungeons & Dragons experience points when we played this game. (We were a tad Monty Haul.)

  • i admired this game

  • great review brought me back to the seventies...I HATED THAT BAT :)

  • One fun thing about this game is that being eaten by a dragon didn't actually end the game.... you were inside his stomach.... and unable to get out. While you couldn't play anymore, one fun thing could happen: the bat would eventually fly by, pick up the dragon that ate you, and take you both on a tour of the game!

  • @hanniballecturer always cool. I loved this game

  • @hanniballecturer I love when that happens, it's hilarious!

  • nice review, adventure kicked ass

  • Adventure is such an addicting game. I like it!!

  • I spent WAYYY too much time playing this game as a kid, but I couldn't help it. It was SO...FRIGGIN...COOL! A few years later I got Intellivision with "Advanced D&D" and "Advanced D&D 2 - The Treasure of Tarmin" which were also both awesome games (Swords and Serpents for Intellivision gets an honorable mention too)... Ah, the golden age of home console video games! Such memories...

  • Ah, so THIS game is where the fqwgads duck comes from. "Somebody get this freakin' duck away from me!!"

  • @WindowsErrorGuy SB ftw!

  • There was even a glitch in the game, When I played this game for the first time and got eaten by one of those ducks (dragons, whatever), a second one came and ended up eating me while the other already did (seriously, I tried this for about 20 times, then threw my atari out the window)

  • Why did you throw your Atari out your window? You're dead, so why does it matter if you're eaten by all three dragons (which has happened to me, by the way)? Just press Reset. Your items will remain in the same place, but you and all dragons will be resurrected.

  • Adventure is cool

  • Ok, those dragons seriously look like rubber ducks.

  • @everybodylovesdonuts No they don't. And I have no idea where people are getting that from. They look nothing like ducks. Instead they look like sea hourses.

  • This was the first game I had for the Atari, and it was frustrating as hell. But one of my favorites.

  • ohmygod there not ducks

  • Note that it's also done in less computer memory space than most thumbnails for videos take up. I mean the squares in the "Related Videos" tab... They originally wanted to do a text adventure similar to "The colossal cave" (which later became Zork) but the Atari 2600 was too limited for even a very stripped down text adventure.

    It was an amazing game!

  • I used to fucking HATE that bat.

  • adventure II is also very cool

  • Greatness! A++ Thanks man!

  • Wtf does he mean easter egg!?!

  • Easter egg is a term for hidden message or item in a game or DVD etc. The one in this game was one of the first ever, if not THE first.

  • You are almost right. Adventure's easter egg was long concidered to be the first easter egg, altough people have found easter eggs in the Fairchild Channel F's games, some of which predates Adventure (check wikipedia for a confirmation).

By the way, nice reviews. It's nice to finally find someone who does not spend half of the review yelling swearwords.

  • @AqualungGameReviews you should review superman and et

  • @AqualungGameReviews Yes it was the first easter egg.

Atari actually found the easter egg before the game was mass-produced, and wasn't too happy about it, but it would have taken too much time and money to get it out of the programming, so they left it in. Most players back in the 80s never knew it was there anyway. I had this game back in 1988, and never knew the easter egg was there.

I really like your reviews by the way, I base many of my ebay purchases on them.

  • well the german people wanted a day in the spirng to repersent fertialy so the choose easter and the choose an egg and rabbit to repersent fertialty

  • You're wrong. Getting eaten by a dragon does NOT end the game. All you have to do is press the reset switch, and you will be freed. All the objects will still be where you left them.

What to have some real fun? Get eaten by a dragon, and then wait for the bat to pick-up the dragon. You get a free aerial tour! :-)

Adventure was a great game for imaginative kids.

  • I was totally obsessed with this game as a kid!!

  • Awesome review! I found it interesting and very informative! THe best game reviewer ive seen since the angry video game nerd! im subscribing to this and ill check out all other reviews!

    Im giving 5 stars!!!!

  • Woahh, these are the best graphics ever. That dragon almost looks like a dragon.lol

  • i thought that thing was a duck too xD

  • I hate that bat! Stole my key and when I used a bridge to get the key it stole my bridge :(

  • THeir was one time that the bat was carrying a red dradon whitch was carring a green dragon! Jesus, everywhere I went I was being killed by these three fuckers >:( And due to a glitch, the bat couldn't drop the dragon, only pick up more stuff :( Thwn their was a time when I used the bridge to get past the yellow castle into a glitch room, THEN THE BAT TOOK THE BRIGDE. I was stuck!

  • Thank you for this review! I played this game when I was a kid and never really knew what the hell happened once you brought the grail back to the castle. I thought the game had a glitch or something!!

  • OMFG!!! I LOVED THIS GAME lmaoaoaoa

  • A+++++ game!!!

  • This game was amazing, considering on the size of the cartridge it was written on. I have file directories now with more overhead space than this entire game. Remember when you had to write tight code before the Bloatware Explosion?

  • In general, I hate when people complain about the graphics in this game. THIS GAME IS THIRTY YEARS OLD. No home console in 1979 had the hardware capability to produce a lengthy, creative adventure game with good graphics.

Also, fuck graphics. Graphics don't make a game fun. GAMEPLAY makes a game fun.

  • @DrJohnCockwalrus One thing I loved about this game was in the third level it was random. I hated Nintendo when it came out because all you did was memorize a sequence.

  • @DrJohnCockwalrus I agree, man. I just kept playing this game over and over and over. It's easy for these kids today to dis on the old games with bad graphics. But I use my IMAGINATION and felt I was really there. With today's graphics, you don;t have to imagine much.

  • @DrJohnCockwalrus I highly agree

  • I agree without Adventure we wouldnt have Legend of Zelda and World of Warcraft. All modern day Adventure/ rpgs owe homage to Adventure.

one fun thing to do in this game is grab the Black Bat... make the bat grab the Sword

You now have an extension on your sword and the Dragons cant even get close to you

  • I remember Dingbat as we called him all too well. Hated that sucker. Also there were Red, Green, and Chicken (yellow). Still play the game today just because of those memories. Done it so many times can almost do those mazes blindfolded. Good times these games.

  • how is that an adventure game?

  • it just is

  • The first adventure game ive ever played was pong

  • lol

  • An excellent review.

This wasn't the first video game I've ever played; that would have to be Pong.

  • I would give it an A partly because of how ground-breaking the game was. But, a "B" would work as well because after awhile the game presented no challenge for me once I got the hang of it.

  • This is the first game I ever beat. I was young enough that the dragons (I also thought they looked like seahorses) would make my heart beat faster! I was actually scared of them. Say what you want about kids of the 70's and early 80's, but we had GREAT imaginations. We kinda had to!

  • You're right--we had to have great imaginations. And man--it's been 25 years and your comment just now made me realize that they DO look like seahorses... how could I have missed that...

  • Oh, I thought that the sword was just an arrow pointing to nothing...

    Nice review!

  • Hmm all these comments saying what everyone's first game was makes me wonder what game I first played. I know it was either Pitfall or ET.

  • I remember playing this game when I was 3. I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

  • Solid review man.

  • This was the very first video game I ever played.

  • I completed this game. We used to call the monsters "Woogy the horny explorer". And the bridge, we caleld it Joe.

  • i love the starting ur reviews are great

  • You need your own TV show, you rock.

  • Great review as usual!! ... thanks for doing this one.. I look forward to your next Atari review..!

  • original zelda

  • Nice review

  • Have you considered reviewing ET? I know probably everyone's ripped it to death by now, but it would still be interesting to hear someone talking about it without griping and making long strings of obscenities.

  • I've got a review on it...and I DON'T rip it to death either.

    Btw, nice Adventure review.

  • yaay finally a new vid!

    thanks aqua!

  • You're the best reviewer on the internet. Please keep this up. I'm sick of 10 year old kids reviewing stuff like this and complaining that the polygon count is too low.

Please review Pressure Cooker as your next 2600 review.

  • Oh God, Pressure Cooker! lol I forgot about that one.

  • COOL

  • did you like harold and kumar 2. I liked your reference.

  • Not really so much a reference to the movie, just the restaurant. I never really had much interest in seeing that.

  • And now I know where it all began. Thanks.

  • Another great one. I need to dig out my Atari and play this classic. :)

  • I like your video's!

  • Awesome.

  • Awesome game but, everytime you mention fast food you call it cancerous....?

  • It badly increases your chances of colon cancer.

  • Too much fast food does.

  • yeah, but with all due respect, what DOESN'T give you cancer nowadays?

  • rofl i love this game XD

  • My review of "Adventure" for the Atari 2600.
