  • gothel shows her evil side in this part

  • "why would he like you, now come on, look at you"

    Thanks...

  • "I think he likes me"

    "Oh, Rapunzel don't be demented."

    Wow...thanks Mom

  • Does anyone else see Rapunzel's hair as a metaphor for virginity? Or perhaps some sort of sexual awakening? Re-listen to this with that in mind and you'll notice that this song can have more than one meaning, especially out of context.

  • @Bronze998 oh wow, ur right

  • @Bronze998 i agree some one else said the same thing when the movie first came out. I think in the real fairy tale Rapunzel becomes pregnant and gives birth to twin boys.

  • "why would he like you? come on now, really." harsh

  • Best song in the movie.

  • 0:22 So, you're insinuating that she's ugly?

  • @Demonslayer232 She calls her fat and dumb in the first "Mother Knows Best" song, so its really not surprising :P

  • God, I relate to this song so much

  • "THIS is why he's here! Don't let him deceive you! Give it to him, watch, you'll see! Trust me, dear, (snap) That's how fast he'll leave you! I won't say I told you so!"

You know, without the visual of the tiara, the whole virginity metaphor is even more obvious.

  • @QueenHyatt Nice job COPYING a top comment that was here before. What people will do for thumbs ups nowadays.

  • @DrizzyDrake757 Aw, shit, you caught me. Yeah, you're right. I saw that comment and recognized its genius, and then waited until some other comments had taken its place so I was less likely to be noticed. Then I copied the idea of that same comment, solely so I could get thumbs up.

Because the hair-as-virginity metaphor in Tangled is SO OBSCURE and SO DEEP that NO ONE ELSE COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF IT BUT THAT

    ONE

    USER.

Seriously, are you stupid or just intensely paranoid?

  • @QueenHyatt Ick, tiara-as-virginity. Pardon me.

Though hair-as-virginity is a whole other metaphor in this movie. Pretty much everything is Rapunzel's hymen.

  • @QueenHyatt Am I stupid? Please... Your trying to comment in hopes of getting top comment. I think actucally that one person thought of the original idea and eventually it passed along and now your using it to get "thunmbs up." Please think before you say something stupid.

  • @DrizzyDrake757 So paranoid it is then? Charming. I highly doubt the poster you're referring to was the first person to reach that conclusion on their own. This may come as a surprise to you, but virginity metaphors in modern popular media? REALLY REALLY COMMON ACTUALLY.

Also, I don't take advice regarding what's stupid and what isn't from someone who doesn't understand the difference between "your" and "you're."

  • @DrizzyDrake757 You're the one who started flinging around accusations. But fine, I have no problem with dropping it.

  • You know what I don't understand about this movie. Mother Gothel spends like over a week without using Rapunzel's hair and she still looks young. Then at the end when they cut of Rapunzel's hair she dies in like 10 seconds.

  • @DrizzyDrake757 Just because Gothel wasn't using the hair doesn't mean it's magic still didn't work. When Rapunzel's hair was cut, all of the magic inside of it died, and then the magic in Mother Gothel was removed too.

  • @SasuSaku123356 Thank you. I was always trying to figure out how she was still alive because in some scenes everytime she came back, she used the magic. Well, thanks for answering my question.

  • 0:35

The moment I heard that first music beat, I cracked the biggest smile because I knew shit just got real in this movie.

  • @TalesofGirl4ever ME TOO. For me this one was on par with Poor Unfortunate Souls

  • This is what the first one should've sounded like

  • during one of my summer camps last year, me and my cabin would NOT, i repeat, NOT stop singing this and we drove the counselors insane!

  • This is simply epic. The orchestra and the vocals add a dark tone perfect for any villain song. I just wish this was longer... Favorite song of the entire movie.

  • @Soulman706 Completely epic. Best example of her vocals. Soo dang good.

  • My friend knows this song from heart, she said she'll sing this to her kids when she's older lolomg xD

  • Did anyone else snap their fingers @ 1:05?

  • @4eversmokey Just did. ;)

  • Thanks for my first top comment!! This is awesome!! Thanks again!!!!

  • This was my favourite song in the movie! XD

  • i like the reprise better cause it has a darker tone to it and the music is more evil and sinister while the first time around it was kinda more "can't say i didn't warn you'

  • i just saw this movie today it was so fun XD

  • Comment removed

  • I find this so hilarious....

  • hahaha we should all just BREAK OUT into song whenever we feel like fighting with our parents xDDD

  • @xxladybug94

I completely agree! xD It's way better than screaming and shouting.

"Lalala Muuuum, you're being really mean to meeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

"Ohhhh, no I'm nottt you should cleaned.....your...ROOOOOOM!"

..That would be so fun xD

  • Comment removed

  • MMOTHEEEEEERRR!!! KNOWS BEST!

in the end that's the best scream of the song

  • Best Disney villain song EVER! Best actress EVER! Best Disney movie EVER! Love how this shows the evil side of Gothel and the way she sang with emphasis! JUST PERFECT; LOVE TANGLED!

  • @TheDjlstar She's a very good villain! I do love this song...but Hellfire has the honor of Best Disney Villain song XD

  • @MrMrMrprofessor I think Frollo is a good villain and I do like the song Hellfire but I just think that this is the best Disney villain song because of how it sounds and how the singer makes all the lyrics blend together into one amazing song!

  • @TheDjlstar Agreed, very good song. I personally love Hellfire because Frollo isn't just singing about how evil he is, he's trying to convince himself to overcome the sin he wants to commit. A

  • When she tells Rapunzel she loves her, notice how she is looking at her hair each time throughout the movie. Thumbs up if you noticed that.

  • @TheUltraPikachuFan Many ppl noticed that since Rapunzel was kidnapped.

  • She has such a crazy awesome voice! Like the way she says, well sings things is so cool I love it! "that's how fast he'll leave you!"

  • "Trust me my dear, That's how fast he'll leave YOU!"

Idk why but I just love how she says it!!!!

  • once again....villians got the best song!

oh why couldn't this have been longer?!

  • Best. Villainess song. Ever.

  • This is one of the best disney villain songs ever! It has such a dark tone and you can feel all that energy and emotion from the singer

  • Well, this explains how Father Gothel left the picture

  • I sing this everyday randomly in school (:

  • 0:33

Everybody knows something awesome is about to happen.

  • Mom, is that you?

  • "Motheeeeerrrr-"

    "NO."

    hahaahaa

  • 9 dislikes ? thats demanted

  • Everytime I hear this reprise, I picture one seriously epic broadway number.

  • Since when did my mother play in a disney movie??

  • This is why I've always wanted to be in a Disney movie. So I can be a part of songs like this.

  • I hate those random dislikes on the best videos...

  • I'm gonna be Mother Gothel for halloween! That's just how awesome I am!

  • I get chills evertime she says "I won't say I told you so".

  • this needs to be a play

  • @liveNrockOn IKRxD

  • 0:34 It's going down

  • Mother knows best, but if she locked me away for 18 years, I'd be like "fuck you, I'm leaving!"

  • she reminds me of my mother.. the high cheek bones, the curly hair, the changing personality... the unknown dark side that snaps...*shiver*

still love my mom tho :D

  • kinda sounds like she's giving away her virginity...

  • Mother does know best....Guys will leave you so fast.

  • Gothel has the best songs in this movie :D

  • This is my favorite song out of the whole movie. <3

  • The singer here sure knows how to play a character, awesome voice :O

  • this will probably become a Broadway show one day...as do many Menken scores. This would sound amazing live on stage!!

  • @xoxdanielle18 Oh so I'm not the only one that thought this would be awsome as a play!x3

  • 0:32 SHIT JUST GOT REAL.

  • I absolutely love this song. Her voice gives me chills. I only wish that for the ending "Mother Knows Best" that she stayed on the same note for "knows" and went up to finish the chord on "best". Still, her singing is fantastic!

  • @KeatonVio that would sound great, but i always wish "mother" and "knows best" were the same note. i think if she went really high it would have been a little shrill. i always imagine her staying on the minor 5th!

  • I love the way she sings the last "Rapunzel Knows best" Its like she's shouting but singing perfectly at the same time

  • Y'know, ever since I read someone else's comment on here about how "this" can also be taken as virginity, I haven't been able to get that out of my head.

  • i like the thts how fast hell leave you i keep o sigig it and my fried gets anoyed

  • 1:06. 1:25.

  • Why is it the villains have all the best songs? XD

I love both versions of the song but the intensity of this one is definitely more appealing to me.

Also, anyone else wish they wouldn't kept the snap in when she says 'That's how fast he'll leave you'?

  • I can just see (hear :P) this song on Broadway!!

  • If he's lying

    Don't come crying

Mother knows best... the most chilling part of the song

  • The reprise is better because it has that darker tone that was missing the first time through.

  • @DeuceyDee Agreed 100%. I love the darker tone in villian songs. Proves she has other plans.

  • @mangaluver2010

Well, that's kinda true but I felt the ending would;ve been so much more touching with a dead Flinn... THAT"S JUST ME THO!!! I didnt mean to sound insulting or something, sorry :/

  • @SuperMay42 Oh no no, no need to apologized I understood what you ment I've seen some movies were I wish I hadn't wasted my time watching themxD. It's just the movie is more or less for kids(although adults seem to like it morexD) I very much doubt they would have killed off the main male character.^-^;

  • damn gothel, you scary!

  • @DarknessIsTheTruth

I couldnt agree with you more!

I was nearly crying the first time I saw this movie when he was dying, and I seriously loved it! I was going about how good the movie was and wondering how the end will be... and then he magicaly wakes up and I'm like...

What is this shit? What the hell happened? Where had all the sad-greatness gone to? So the beginning when he said he died is just gonna stay a lie r something?

Shit, this was good untli this point.... whatever.

  • @SuperMay42 What are you talking about :'/ the whole thing was she had the power of the flower even without her hair, so even if she lost her hair if she really needed to she could use the power without her hair, like in a way she was basically the flower.

  • I would have loved this film, but that Deux Ex machina at the end pissed me off. I don't care if all the toddlers would've left the theater crying: If Flynn died, it would have been a great, believable ending. Also... "This is the story of how I died" wouldn't turn out to be a lie.

  • Mother Gothel is so damn passive aggressive.

  • Comment removed

  • this song gives me chills 0.0

  • Rapunzel:"No way!"

    Cindrella:"Yep..."

Quasi Moto:"I'm glad this counciling session's gone so well, we'll all meet again next Wednesday okay?"

  • love how Gothel isnt a classic black&white villain. theres seems to be shades of grey, I think she actually did love Rapunzel as a surrogate mother. Mother Gothel has to be my favourite Disney villain, I dont like her as a person but she is an amazing character <3 :)

  • "Trust me my dear, that's how fast he'll leave you."

    That explains Father Gothel then....

  • @Kerriangel good one

  • @Kerriangel LMBO Good one.

  • @Kerriangel AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • This has got to be one of my most favroite parts out of the entire movie!!

  • This is perhaps my favorite dramatic part of the movie.

  • @TheCoolMusicSoldier eh, I just think Mother Gothel isn't so black and white as some disney villainesses. Of course she's evil, but she's also raised rapunzel for 18 years, there must have been some emotion in her role as a 'mother'. In any case, I think the song is a great representation of how wiser, jaded mothers question the naivete of their daughters.

  • what mother and daughter can't relate to this song? Although Mother Gothel is undeniably malevolent, she speaks the truth - not everyone can be trusted. On one level she selfishly tries to keep Rapunzel for her own benefit, but her motherly instinct wants to protect her daughter from the cruelties of the real world. Someone already mentioned the lyrics may hint at Gothel being taken advantage of before.

  • .....what a bitch.

  • ...That's it. Thanks to this song, I've been inspired to compose a song like this. (Ah, the power of music.)

  • Every time a Disney movie comes out i look forward to the villain's song and the reprises! They sound so awesome!!

  • "Are you sure then give him 'this'! Ha! 'This' is why he's here, don't let him deceive you! Give it to him and watch, you'll see! Trust me, my dear, that's how fast he'll leave you, I won't say I told you so!"

    Tiara = Virginity? Awkward...

  • Oh god if they use this with Mother Gothel being one of the villains of Fantasmic against Mickey I wonder how the lyrics will sound like.

  • I bought the sheet music book for Tangled, was disappointed Mother Know's Best Reprise wasn't included. And I wanted to play this reprise sooooo bad :(

  • Am I the only one who thinks that lightning should have struck at 1:26 lol

  • Am I the only who though Rapunzel was hot?

  • Rapunzel: I think he likes me.

    Gothel: Please, Rapunzel, that's demented.

    Wow, thanks. -_-"

  • wish all fight's with parent's was like this lol

  • Mother Gothel might be the only villianess with an actual use for her cape. xD

  • She....... is a horrible mother.

  • The best villaness ever!<3

  • This song always sents a shiver down my spine. Who knew that your one from Spiderman 2 could sing so good .

  • Gothel:Mother..

    Rapunzel: NO!

Gothel: :OHHELLNO..! -Gets out ring hand-

    Rapunzel: OKAY TT_TT

  • Oh my GOD, how can she fit so much attitude into her singing?!!?

  • That song gives me chills, Donna Murphy's voice fitts perfect!!!

  • Her inhales at 1:13, 1:15 and 1:16 cannot be unheard.

  • @whitereverse damn it!

  • I wish this was longer.

  • This song represents my mom not letting me go to InvaderCon or Florida Super Comics.

  • After watching this movie, my mom is like, "Gosh, I feel like Mom Of The Year now." xD

  • if my mom ever started singing this, i'd be scared into doing anything O_O

  • one word : WOW!

im scared just listening to it o.o

  • Oh hey i didnt know my mother was in a disney movie... =_=' way to go mom....

  • this song is about Rapunzel's virginity, think about it

  • She has such a powerful and amazing voice!!!

  • Wish I could say no to my mother like that. Go girl! <3

  • @KIERSKAYandKAYKIERS hahahaha right?!

  • is it me or does 0.00-0.10 sound like something from the lion king?

  • @xalicehayesx Like, when/before Mufasa dies? Or somewhere around there?

  • @xalicehayesx Sounds more like The Little Mermaid to me. Alan Menken didn't do The Lion King... so I'm just drawing from that.

  • @gaaraxnaru yeahh it does sound more like something from the little mermaid!

  • @xalicehayesx Yep.

  • My favorite!

  • Haha she's so evil

  • If I were all alone in the forest after a visit such as that, I would be terrified!!!!

  • Iam pregnant with my first child and I can imagine showing him or her this video in years to come. It's only when your about to become a parent yourself that you realise your parents were only ever trying to look out for you and protect you. Iam already very protective over my baby and Iam only 6 months pregnant god knows what I'll be like when he or she is actually here .

  • @Haimfan This is a little extreme don't you think?

  • I wonder how many mothers could have sang this to their daughters through the ages.

  • mother gothel has to be my favorite character followed by maximus. power to the ponies!!

  • This is my favorite reprise of any song in the whole world. Donna Murphy totally owns this role.

  • Am I the only one who likes the way she sings "that's how fast he'll leave you"?

  • @Ellie1098 nope, i like it too.

  • @Ellie1098 I think everyone does

  • @Ellie1098 it's so freaking awesome :D

  • @Ellie1098 No, I like the way she sings all of it.

  • @Ellie1098 no thats my favourite bit in this song x'D

  • @Ellie1098 seeing as your comment was favourited by 84 people, I don't think so :)

  • @Ellie1098 Nope. That's possibly the most addictive part of this song, in my opinion.

  • @Ellie1098 hell no thats one of my fav parts!

  • @Ellie1098 I like it!

  • @Ellie1098 GAAAAAAH I ADORE IT!!!!!!! ^_^

  • @Ellie1098 Nope, I thought I was. I also like the way she says. "Oh.. I see how it is" at the beginning and also, "I won't say I told you so."
