I added the text you see that DEBUNKS all of his nonsense. Things work differently in Pueblo, CO (81006 zip code) than they do here in WA. Salishan is different from other low cost housing that you might be used to. Think what you want, but I know for a FACT that people in the neighborhood do own their own homes.

HUD is helping to build affordable homes for low to moderate income Americans all over the country. The only people that don't have to have earned income -that means- income from a job are Seniors and Disabled. I know how the program works because we are in the process of buying a home ourselves. As far as I know, no one on ''welfare'' or tanf is eligible to buy a home. They could rent, however and pay 30 - 40% of their income in rent. I think Tacoma Housing Authority should sue him.

HUD typically charges a person 30 - 40% of their income for the mortgage. They are NOT free. They pay their own maintenance and utilities. They also have to come up with funds for the down payment, inspections, and closing costs. Very low income people get some help with some of those items. This guy is a fricken joke.

@jfsfrnd From what I understand, Salishan has three tiers of affordable housing: Market Rate (medium income), Low income (<60% AMI) and extremely low income (<40% AMI). So to qualify for a low-income home, this equates to an annual income of $28,620 for one person or $37,780 for three persons. The Habitat for Humanity homes require extremely low income to qualify and then sweat equity to help build it. But in all cases, there is no free ride. You have to work and pay a mortgage.

You have to be working low income or qualify for section 8 assistance (which is very hard to get) or on TANF where you are required to go to school to get additional training. Essentially, Dr? is showing you homes where people have worked sometimes two jobs at once, or going to college to get new skills, or helping build their own home and calling them illegal aliens and saying they are being mollycoddled to get others angry

They take you on a tour through part of phase II, then on to phase III and then to phase I. But they avoid showing you the empty lots in phase II where I think there are Habitat for Humanity and other homes being built. He avoids showing people helping themselves and learning a new trade. They show you a good portion of Phase I along Q street twice, repeating their propaganda
