Art & Dotty Todd had the hit on this tune. This is terrific arrangement; and you just couldn't go wrong with Dick Cathcart on thehorn either. This is great.
this is one of those things that there is no rhyme or reason why I keep coming back to this, I just do. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but for some reason it seems a little...off to me. like one of those things that is playing in the background when something bad is happening and you never hear it the same after. it's like that, but I only just heard it for the first time earlier this year. and the strangeness of it is what kinda makes me like it.
I like your commnent. I guess music is all about feeling good. They (Lennon Sisters) used to be on Lawrence Welk. And that show made a whole lot of people feel good. Thanks!
How did we go from these classy beautiful women to obscene lyrics where woman proudly sing about being whores? I loved these shows used to watch with my grandmother every Saturday night, thanks for posting these wonderful memories.
And another great one from Shirl Girl. The Lennons are babes as always. Dick Cathcart kicks on the trumpet, and there's Lawrence's trademark bass thud in the background. LIfe is beautiful now.

Manhattan Transfer's version is SO much better.. so laid back and classy. These ladies sound as if they are late for dinner and have to finish the song in double time.
I have enjoyed listening to the Lennon sisters since I was a baby! I am 29 and my mom and dad would have the records play while they read the paper and I would dance along to the music. Thanks for the memories! - Monica
It's called a beehive, based on the hairstyles of the early 1870's, which were thought to be copying the styles of the 1760's-70's. Evidence of similar styles have been found in ancient art. I've yet to see a woman who does not look great in this hairdo. It's more flattering than the hairstyles of so many women today (twice the age of the Lennon sisters here) sporting long, flat, straight hair that would only suit a teenager. Let's bring back the beehive!
The first thing on my mind when I heard the Lennon Sisters.. these must be using John Lennon's name for their popularities. To be my surprise.. they were long way before John! And surely very much different from John. Kathy was very beautiful here. Love her eyes.
Yes, started singing in 1955. I went to school and church with them and their whole family in Venice, CA. Have known their lovely family ever since. Kathy is my dad's favorite. My wife got dressed for our wedding in 1970 at their home.
Yes, Juliaflo, I am lucky to know their family. As I mentioned, a lot of memories at their home in Venice. When my wife and I would return for a visit to Venice, CA where I grew up, the sister's mother, affectionately known as Sis, would bake me a chocolate cake, as she knew it was my favorite. Yes, they are a wonderful family, all of them.
These ladies are a class act. I grew up with them and their whole family, went to same church and grade school. Knew them when they very first started singing. A beautiful family and lots of memories of being at their house in Venice, CA before they moved to Branson. They may be retired now, but their music sure lives on, wholesome and beautiful.
Peggy looks awfully proud of her husband, Dick Cathcart, as he plays his trumpet. I wish my wife and her sisters would smile like that when I play my cornet around the house!
You will need to contact Joeseph Cathcart (peggy's son) he was using my computer and all these comments are coming to my email for some reason. I have no connection to this family except being friends. Sorry.
Its about time the Lennon Sisters were acknowledged as the longest running girl group of all time.Hardly matters that they did nothing but cover versions-which is a plus factor in my eyes.
As a girl group they were as good as any and made great versions of Greensleeves and Beautiful Brown Eyes.
Technically they were One Hit Wonders with their Patience & Prudence cover but Greatest Hits in their case means probably the greatest hits of their stage shows.
Thank you so much for giving me the chance to watch my mother and father together...it means the world to me. People seem to forget that Dad was a mean horn player..
Oh my goodness these were all fun to watch. We were fortunate to see them in person at the Welk Theater in Branson about ten years ago. I'm so glad that we did. The following morning we saw the Lennon Brothers Show at Breakfast along with the remainder of the family who were all there to celebrate Memorial Day, I believe. What wonderful memories of a wonderful family. Thank you for the video clips of the Lennon Sisters

That's weird!! I just got a dvd of "I,Madman" yesterday. A very underated horror movie.
But the thing I most remembered about the movie was this song. However, the
original version by Art & Dotty Todd recorded in 1958 was more passionate and
slower than this sped up version. That version just fit that movie somehow. Can't explain it. A sick film with a beautiful love song. WTF?
