  • @Revhead you are right about them being one of the first Aussie band to do a US tour. They were also one of the first to know the pain of touring and coming back broke. And I'm pretty certain Mark Kennedy just finished recording with Genevieve Chadwick this year.

  • Hi Chris...we found you!!! Thanks again for a great night of music at The Rowers. You guys are fabulous.

I'll be in touch soon. PS...you look great with hair - Karen & Terry

  • This is Ayers Rock in April 1975 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne. part of the Melbourne "Concert for Bangladesh". There are other clips on youtube of the same gig: Ayers rock playing "Gimme Shelter", and the band Daddy Cool playing "Eagle Rock" and "Hi Honey Ho". AC/DC was also on the bill.

  • A Blast from the past!!good to see Chris B still around.wonder wot happened to Duncan McQ?

  • @julbet ...Duncan died about 15-20 yrs ago.

  • So how's bangladesh doing these days?

  • yeah kind of the poor mans versionof santana. had one good album, big red rock ? then ..........nothing

  • Actually got the orginal LP sitting beside me now. Saw them in Gymea pub Sydney excellent musos

  • You might be thinking of Russell Dunlop, who died in 2009. He spent a short while as drummer with Ayers Rock in 1976 (I think). Another brilliant musician and producer who's very sadly missed.

  • I vaguely remember our band playing a gig at a teacher's college in Melbourne back then and these guys were the feature act..

  • No Mark Kennedy didn't die, he's very much alive & playing with Leo Sayer among others. A really great drummer & a nice guy.

  • I just saw this gig on Rage this morning, I'd never heard of Ayers Rock before, I was blown away, such great muso's and songs

  • Mark Kennedy seemed to be pretty alive when i saw him playing drums for Leo Sayer at the Blacktown Workers not long ago ...

    Leslie

  • It's Ayers Rock. The DVD '1975, the year it all began' was spelled wrongly....and thankyou everyone for your comments and compliments. Love to y'all, Chris Brown

  • got this LP Big Red Rock as a sampler from my old friend Peter Karpin who worked for Mick Gudinski back then...he also gave me Chain Towards the Blues..wore out the needles on the old HMV...no wonder Abba never quite 'got me' a few yrs later.....sheesh

  • On the title the spelling is ayres rock, every article spells it ayers rock, which is it? need to know for research purposes

  • How damn good is this!. Watch, listen and learn something all you eck-heads

  • Thank God for the Net!

This is gold. Have not heard this song in years. My youth, thanks you.

  • Way cool - Chris Brown is my osteopath now !!!!

  • The Big Red Rock vidio has been on You Tube for a while now

  • Such a great band !

Mark Kennedy & Duncan McGuire the greatest rythym section ever !

I recall this whole concert was televised in the 70's, but I have never been able to find any more footage, except this Lady Montego. I would love to see them doing The Big Red Rock and Boogie Woogie Waltz, again !

  • One of the greatest. Their 'Boogie Woogie Waltz' is better than Weather Report.

  • That was better than sex,,,,and longer....Thanks..

  • looks like every1 wants mark kennedy to be their daddy!!!

  • well I got to say it is great to see footage of my dad's song... there does not appear to be much around.. thanks to who ever posted it.....

  • so he is ur dad...oh & he is vjwarps dad 2!

  • Duncan McGuire was my father not Mark Kennedy...

  • Who's the reed player???

  • col loughnan

  • drumsontherange: Thanx...I remember him with Max Merret & the Meteors, & Murtceps..I think he went to England & joined a noted brass section....very nice player indeed.

  • Back in the mid-seventies I thought this band was great but now I see that they were just riding the wave of the West USA Coast hippy music of earlier times. Sorry but they are a band of the 70s that should stay in the 70s

  • I am a yank who was in OZ during this time.

This is such a great song. Please send me and email skyhooks75@comcast net.

    Thanks.

  • I remember all these guys and friends and used go to most of their gigs...they were known at the time for being such professional muso's and gregsbad is so right about Mark Kennedy the drummer. Chris Brown was the lead singer.

  • Yeah, I think Mark Kennedy died not too long ago. He was one of those live life to the fullest kind of guy if you get my meaning . . . Chris Brown is still around and still playing music in his spare time, though he lost most of that hair.

  • chris lost his hair in the 70's!!!Didnt know abt mark thou he wasnt that old either, i think big goose from chain passed away too a couple of years ago, cld be a rumour tho, do you know wot band chris is in now?

  • Nah Mark Kennedy is still alive, hes playing with leo sayer these days.

  • Mark Kennedy is alive and Kicking Hard playing for the James Southwell Band, Leo Sayer and Kevin Borich. Saw him at Blues on Broadbeach with JSB,,,, they were AWESOME!!!!

  • lol I can tell u the most of anyone that he is alive im his son.... lol

  • so he is ur dad..oh he is dixiedalsy1010 dad 2!

  • @Revhead9

I am pleased to say that Mark Kennedy ( the drummer ) is alive and currently plays with Leo Sayer.

He is still a brilliant drummer.

  • Wow, great stuff! I used to really enjoy that 'Big Re Rock' album. Crazy Boys-The Hamburger song!

You got any Sebastian Hardie, Madder Lake, Buffalo, Ariel, or Masters apprentices videos kickin' around?

  • WoW what a band this brings back so many memories,Mark Kennedy the drummer is unreal,he used to be in another aussie band called Friends!!

  • I believe this particular track can be found on a compilation DVD available from ABC shops?

  • Hey, great post. I used to love this band and saw them heaps. Do you have any more footage?

  • Where on earth did you get this footage? I thought the only existing footage of Ayers rock was on GTK.
